Watch: Keke Palmer performs on 'Kimmel,' releases 'Just Keke' album
June 20 (UPI) -- Keke Palmer is back with new music.
The singer, 31, performed a medley of songs including "125 Degrees" and "Off Script" on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Thursday.
Both tracks are included on her album Just Keke, released Friday.
Palmer appeared on stage in a gold trench coat near an apparent street lamp. As the song continued, she removed the coat to show her red dress with red beading.
Just Keke also includes "Act 1," "What Would Sharon Say?," "Anonymous," "A Kiki and the Bee," "My Confession," "Exposed," "Act 2," "Tea, Boo," "Amnesia," "Same [Expletive] Different Toilet," "I Wanna Know," "Ripples," "Act 3," "Unless It's You," "Misunderstood" and "The End."
She released her album Big Boss in 2023.

July 5 (UPI) -- Julian McMahon's former co-stars Joely Richardson and Alyssa Milano were among the celebrities mourning his recent death at the age of 56. "Woke up to the shocking news of Julian McMahon's passing at 56," Richardson said in an Instagram post Saturday. "I can't believe it. We worked together for many years, covering every possible storyline and then some. Taye Diggs says 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back' love interest Angela Bassett 'wasn't impressed' by him in 'Rent'
Angela Bassett didn't groove with her future costar's performance in his most acclaimed project. Taye Diggs, who played the actress' Jamaican lover in 1998's How Stella Got Her Groove Back, said that the What's Love Got to Do With It actress was not particularly enthused by his turn as the sellout landlord in Rent on Broadway. "Angela Bassett went and came to see Rent and she wasn't impressed," Diggs told Keke Palmer on her podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer. "She wasn't impressed." The Best Man actor said that his agent told him about Bassett's indifference to his performance in the musical and chalked it up to his character being the least important of the principal cast members. "Rent was that show where everybody was like, 'Okay, well, come see these kids in Rent,'" he recalled. "And they were like, 'Okay, well, we have this young man who's auditioning.' 'How can I see him?' Okay, come see the show Rent. And I had the smallest role in Rent of the main characters. So I was like, 'Okay, this isn't going to be. I'm not going to get any jump off of this. I'll just ride it out as hard as I can. And then the next thing, that'll be my jump off. And luckily, that's what it was, Angela Bassett in How Stella Got Her Groove [Back]." Instead, Diggs said that Bassett was more enthused by his performance on Guiding Light. "She saw the soap opera and I was playing this character on Guiding Light called Sugar Hill," he explained. "And she saw a little bit of sexiness in Sugar Hill and then she was like, 'Okay, bring him in.'" How Stella Got Got Her Groove Back marked Diggs' film debut, and he felt that he had hit his first post-Rent career milestone unfairly late. "For a while, you know, I really wasn't really enjoying where I was [in my career]," he explained. "I was expecting to get How Stella Got Her [Groove Back]. I was expecting it. Like, it came too late for me." Diggs explained that at the time, he thought he deserved breakout success at the same level as his Rent costars — if not even bigger stardom. "Idina [Menzel], she had got a record deal, Jesse Martin had got a TV show," he said, laughing. "I was the last one to hit. So I was like, 'Damn, y'all!' I'm like, in my head I was like, 'I'm more talented than all y'all! I'm the last — what's going on?'" He continued, "Finally, I got How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and I was like, 'Okay, now we at the party. Let's go,'" he said. However, Diggs admitted that he wouldn't have been satisfied if Stella marked the peak of his movie career."I was like, 'Okay, well, what's next? What's next?'" he recalled. "Because at the time it was, I was like, 'Okay, I wanna be the next Will Smith.' Because I was looking in. You know what I mean? I was like, 'I want that.' Because he's just Black enough where he can be Black, but not threatening to the white people — he could cross over.'" Though he never quite matched the global superstardom of Smith, Diggs still enjoyed a successful film career, appearing in movies like Brown Sugar, Equilibrium, Chicago, The Wood, Go, and the film adaptation of Rent. Jurnee Smollett tried to find the 'eyes' of her complex 'Smoke' investigator

Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo NEW YORK, July 5 (UPI) -- Underground, True Blood and Lovecraft Country actress Jurnee Smollett says that sage advice from a screen icon helped her find the look and voice of her character in the new drama, Smoke. Based on the true-crime podcast Firebug, and created by best-selling novelist Dennis Lehane, new episodes of the limited series air on Apple TV+ Fridays. The show follows Taron Egerton's Dave Gudsen, a Pacific Northwest arson investigator, aspiring writer and serial fire-starter. Smollett plays Michell, the brilliant, but troubled police detective assigned to help Dave bring blaze-setters to justice. "One of my mentors, Alfre Woodard, said to me a long time ago that, when building a character, you just have to find their eyes, [meaning], how do they see the world?" Smollett, 38, told UPI in a recent Zoom interview. "So, in order to do that, I really just researched her world. I spoke to a bunch of experts in the field, asked a lot of questions, did my same process of writing a backstory and a biography of her." She also worked closely with a personal trainer to prepare for the physical aspects of her role. "I tend to, in my personal life, be a little more lean, but Michell is a former Marine. I researched those Marine workouts and they are intense," Smollett said. "So, I put on 15 pounds of muscle with my trainer and then you take all this research, you do all this work, all this prep work leading up to set and then, once you get on set, you've got to let it all go and just behave." Smollett said she also picked the brain of a real-life firefighter friend in an effort to understand the world in which Michell suddenly finds herself immersed. "I've had an interesting perspective and knowledge of how tough that job is just from watching him," the actress explained. "It really is about accessing a different part of your brain, because, for me, when I see danger, I am running," she laughed. "So, you definitely have to approach it with a level of reverence and humility when taking on a character like this." Smollett said Lehane, Egerton and Rafe Spall, who plays Michell's married former lover and colleague, were all great collaborators. "I just was so blessed to be in a tribe of folks who were generous," she added. "Taron? That's like my brother, even though we're in this cat-and-mouse game. On camera, off camera, I felt safe and felt like he had my back and I had his and, really, we were about servicing the story and it wasn't about ego or competition," she said. "It was really about, 'How do we make this the best story?' And Dennis? Oh, my gosh, I've always been such a fan of his. His writing is brilliant and he empowers you to really take it and run with it and make the character your own. So, I loved working with him."
