Red Sox reactions: Carlos Narváez hits go-ahead homer vs. team that traded him
1) Carlos Narváez — who the Red Sox acquired in a trade with the Yankees at the Winter Meetings in December — blasted a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning. His 372-foot shot to left field put Boston ahead 5-3. Narváez initially signed with the Yankees as a 16-year-old Venezuelan amateur catcher in 2015.

2) The Red Sox improved to 32-35 while the Yankees dropped to 39-25. Boston took the three-game series, 2-1.
3) Narváez's three-run blast was part of a five-run sixth inning for Boston after the Yankees had gone ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning on DJ LeMahieu's solo home run. He connected on a 94.6 mph four-seam fastball from Carlos Rodón.
4) Boston's rally also included a Jarren Duran two-run single (110.2 mph) that made it 7-3.
5) Rookie Kristian Campbell entered with just two extra-base hits in his past 29 games (112 plate appearances) dating back to April 30. But he hit an opposite-field 349-foot two-run home run off Rodón in the fifth inning to tie the game 2-2.

6) Red Sox starter Hunter Dobbins went 5 innings and allowed three runs, four hits and no walks while striking out two.
7) Boston's five-run sixth inning could have been extended had Rafael Devers hustled out a slow ground ball to second base. He slowed down and was thrown out at first base for the final out.
8) Abraham Toro — who had offers from only the Red Sox and Yankees as a free agent this past offseason — crushed a 391-foot, 104.3 mph solo home run to right field in the eighth to put Boston ahead 8-5. He also doubled twice.
9) Trevor Story — who has struggled to hit fastballs this season — connected on a 96.8 mph four-seam fastball from Jonathan Loáisiga and hit it over the short porch in right field (353 feet). He went back-to-back with Toro, making it 9-5 in the eighth.

10) The Red Sox return to Fenway Park to host a three-game series against the Rays beginning Monday. Righty Brayan Bello will pitch for Boston opposite Rays righty Shane Baz.

Jarren Duran Tabbed 'Best Fit' In Trade To Struggling NL Contender
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Boston Red Sox are bound to make some waves at the trade deadline. They have a few pieces to move, but more importantly, they need to upgrade their starting pitching rotation. To do so, the Red Sox might have to trade big league talent. ESPN's Jeff Passan recently suggested the Red Sox could use Jarren Duran as a trade piece and suggested the Cincinnati Reds could be a potential landing spot for the All-Star. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - JULY 18: Jarren Duran #16 of the Boston Red Sox in action against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on July 18, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - JULY 18: Jarren Duran #16 of the Boston Red Sox in action against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on July 18, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois."For the variety of options the Reds have offensively, they find themselves one impact bat light, which is why turning their surplus of starting pitching into a high-end outfielder is a reasonable goal. Is it realistic, though? Not particularly," Passan wrote. "They're not inclined to trade Hunter Greene under a team-friendly contract unless it's for a star, and as good as Duran has been and as talented as Steven Kwan is, neither passes muster at that threshold. "Andrew Abbott, on the other hand, is putting up the sorts of numbers that Boston is seeking from a starter, but with a fastball at 92 mph, he doesn't scream front-of-the-rotation guy." If Boston is hunting pitchers, the Reds are the team to talk to. While Hunter Greene and Chase Burns are almost certainly untouchable, the Red Sox could target Andrew Abbott, Rhett Lowder, Chase Petty, Nick Lodolo, or Nick Martinez to find the starting pitcher they want. Adding Duran would be a huge move for Cincinnati's future. Considering how much depth and talent the Reds have in terms of starting pitching, it wouldn't be surprising to see them sell high on Abbott or Lodolo if it's going to land them a controllable star like Duran. Can any of the Boston Celtics rookies make an impact next season?
The Summer League Celtics played their last game on Sunday, July 20, defeating the Atlanta Hawks 101-80 to end their time in Las Vegas with a 4-1 record. Throughout the mini-tournament, Celtics fans got a closer look at the team's new rookies, along with some second and third-year players trying to crack Joe Mazzulla's rotation. The overall impression was positive, as each of the three rookies showed flashes of their upside, along with an encouraging team-first mentality. Celtics fans also got to see some of the improvements Jordan Walsh has made to his game, and what Baylor Scheierman can do when asked to create for others. Despite some impressive moments from Boston's rookies, it's clear that all three are still a work in progress. During a recent episode of the "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance shared their thoughts on the rookie class and how they can improve and/or make an impact within Mazzulla's rotation once the 2025-26 season gets underway.
