Priyank must resign for silence on drugs case: MLA

Time of India17-07-2025
Mangaluru: Y Bharath Shetty, MLA, Mangaluru City North constituency, sought an explanation from RDPR, IT, and BT Priyank Kharge, regarding the arrest of Lingaraj Kanni, the Congress block president of Kalaburagi South, by Maharashtra police in a drug trafficking case.
The MLA told reporters on Thursday, that the minister, who has been critical of RSS, Sangh Parivar, and BJP, should also address the involvement of the Congress member in drug trafficking. "Priyank Kharge has not responded to the arrest of the Congress member yet. Drug supply was rampant in Kalaburagi for over six months through him. Home minister G Parameshwara failed to check the illegal supply of drugs when the police were silent.
Let the minister resign if he is not able to share his reaction on the issue, clarifying his stance," Shetty said.
He said the silence of the minister raises suspicion that he was also receiving "blessings". "Though it is a serious issue, the Congress has not taken it seriously. Priyank, who has been sharing his critical views on BJP and Sangh Parivar, has not written anything about the drug racket in Kalaburagi. Meanwhile, he is trying to divert the issue by writing on other political issues on social media.

In the 'Republic of Gulbarga', they are engaged in drug deals, and outside they speak on the Constitution," Shetty alleged.
Stating that a huge racket is working behind the drug racket in the state, the MLA said that the menace has resulted even in suicides. Stating that Dakshina Kannada has a large number of educational institutions, the MLA said that home minister G Parameshwara stated recently that he will not allow Mangaluru to be converted into "Udta Punjab".
"Has the home minister got intelligence input on this?" he questioned.
Demanding a wing of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mangaluru, the MLA said that the recently formed Special Action Force (SAF) is of no use and such forces should be formed in Mangaluru to check illegal drug supply. He also lashed out at the minister, stating that the departments are corrupt. He alleged corruption in the implementation of MGNREGA and a lack of projects taken up by Keonics. "Keonics has failed to take up the pending projects, which were launched by the previous BJP govt," he said.

Citing Malegaon blast case verdict, Yogi accuses opposition of ‘shielding terrorists'

1 2 Lucknow: Accusing opposition parties of "implicating innocent Hindus" while shielding actual terrorists in reference to the recent clean chit to the accused of the Malegaon Blast, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday alleged that Congress and Samajwadi Party repeatedly conspired against nationalists and were, in the Malegaon case, questioning the credibility of the country's constitutional institutions. "Will Congress ever apologise to the nation for its misdeeds?" the CM asked while addressing a public meeting in Meerut. He further said that the politics of Congress and SP was long centred on casteism, communal riots, and appeasement of mafia. Calling their approach to terrorism "soft", the CM demanded a public apology from Congress, stating that its politics rooted in casteism, riots, and mafia appeasement deeply harmed the nation. The CM was in Meerut to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects and participated in the bhoomi pujan of a Rs 2,517 crore Integrated Township project, spread across 295 hectares. The CM also provided financial assistance to young entrepreneurs, self-help groups, and housing scheme beneficiaries. Dedicating the township project to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the CM announced that its name would be 'Atal Shatabdi'. Located near the Rapid Rail corridor, this project aims to offer affordable and sustainable housing to residents of the National Capital Region. "The township will reshape Meerut's urban landscape with integrated residential, industrial, and commercial facilities, along with schools, technical institutes, and medical colleges. The project is expected to generate employment for lakhs and establish Meerut as a new hub of development," he said. Elaborating on the development in Meerut in recent years, the CM said that earlier known for its 'Chor Bazar' areas like Sotiganj, it was now gaining international recognition for its sports goods industry, thanks to initiatives like Rapid Rail, the 12-lane expressway, and the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. The country's first sports university, named after Major Dhyan Chand, is coming up in Meerut, he said, while the country's longest expressway connecting Meerut to Prayagraj will be completed by the end of the year, reducing travel time to Lucknow to just six hours. He also announced the commencement of survey work for the Meerut–Haridwar expressway and the integration of divisional offices under one roof as key developmental initiatives and announced new development projects as well, including the reconstruction of the Inner Ring Road and a new Circuit House. He urged people to purchase indigenous products over foreign goods to stop national wealth "from flowing into anti-national activities". The CM also announced that on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, women would be able to travel for free in state transport buses from Aug 8 to 10. He credited the govt's zero-tolerance policy for ridding Meerut of riots and crime and putting it on the path of development. "Eight years ago, Meerut was burning in the flames of communal violence. Today, it is surging ahead with infrastructure like the Rapid Rail and Expressways," he said. During the event, the Chief Minister distributed loans amounting to Rs 29 crore to 675 entrepreneurs under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyam Vikas Abhiyan. Financial assistance of Rs 64 crore was also extended to 881 self-help groups. Keys to homes were handed over to beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, and farmers excelling in their field were honoured with citation certificates.

CM: Operation Sindoor was a befitting reply to Pakistan

New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Monday alleged that the opposition parties loved anti-national forces, but not Bharat, and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Operation Sindoor that avenged the Pahalgam terror attack . Speaking on the first day of the monsoon session of Delhi Assembly during a debate on operations Sindoor and Mahadev, Gupta said Operation Sindoor was a befitting reply to Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack in which some women had lost their loved ones, asserting that PM Modi played a huge role in protecting the dignity of "our sisters". Hitting out at the opposition INDIA bloc, CM claimed, "These people do not love Bharat, but they love anti-national forces because they see their own reflection in them." She alleged, "The name is INDIA, but if you listen to them, it feels like they are spokespersons for Pakistan… They do not trust their own Army, their own Prime Minister, but they trust foreign countries." I want to ask the BJP-led central govt whether the cost of business with America is more than the sindoor of our sisters. " The former CM questioned why the operation was stopped at a crucial juncture. Before being marshalled out, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha criticised the central govt for accepting the cease-fire decision made by US president Trump. "Operation Sindoor was an opportunity... to take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir." Home minister Ashish Sood said the two operations represented the new normal in response to terror attacks. "After terrorist attacks, dossiers are not sent any longer; instead, the Army is given a clear order to eliminate the enemy." Those questioning the two operations should be tried on sedition charges, he said. Minister Kapil Mishra said AAP leaders shed tears whenever a terrorist was killed. "The talk of taking back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir started only after PM Modi took charge." BJP MLA Shikha Rai demanded that Operation Sindoor be made part of the school curriculum. BJP's Arvinder Singh Lovely said India had become such a country that didn't bow down to terrorism any more.
