Roman Kemp says 'it will ruin the show' as he issues Gogglebox warning

Daily Mirror11-07-2025
Roman Kemp has been appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his dad, EastEnders icon Martin, for the past three years and has now 'ruined' the secrets of the hit Channel 4 show
Roman Kemp has spilled the beans on Gogglebox's behind-the-scenes setup, revealing the show's "tiny TVs" and the guidance stars receive from producers. The One Show 's Roman, 32, has been appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his dad, EastEnders legend Martin Kemp, 63, since 2019.
Initially, the duo began filming in Roman's flat, but a dispute with a neighbour led to interruptions during recordings. This hiccup forced them to film in a show home temporarily before settling into an annexe on the property where soap star Martin lives with his wife Shirlie.

On his podcast You About? with musician Tom Grennan, Roman revealed that they spend roughly "four hours" each week filming for Gogglebox. He warned Gogglebox fans he was about to "ruin" some of the show's mystique.

Roman remarked: "With Gogglebox, and they've done it for so many years, I don't think they mind me saying—you're not watching the entire show. By the way, if you like Gogglebox and don't want to know this, don't listen, because it will ruin the show a little bit," he said, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
He continued: "You watch on a smaller telly—the TV is so tiny. It's a small, tiny little monitor that you have to watch it on. And you're watching TV there with about three cameras in the room with you. They don't have people behind them—they're electronic.

"There's a little voice, and the producer will talk to you and so on. You probably watch, out of an hour-long show or movie, 12 minutes. Usually, a cut-down is around 12 minutes; a lot of the time it's six or seven.
"If you're watching a quiz show, you're only watching six minutes of that quiz show—the best bit. So that's when we were like, 'Okay, you've got to play this.'"

Tom, who also appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox with his father, explained that celebrities "don't get TV time" if they misjudge what viewers want. This prompted Roman to explain that he and Martin quickly figured out what works for them.
He added: "You have to figure out what people like watching from you. We found out quite quickly that literally the only parts of me and my dad being in it are when one of us is farting, one of us is falling over... What I will say, though, is that that is our relationship."
While Roman and Martin eventually settled on using the former Spandau Ballet bassist's house as their filming base, Martin had a series of conditions for crew members. He told them they had to "sit outside in a van" and couldn't come in for lunch.
He also told one producer they could only enter the property and use the facilities if they agreed to sit down. Roman joked: "Imagine, that poor producer went home and said, 'Martin Kemp made me have a sit-down wee today.'"

Supernanny star Jo Frost says 'you need to hear this' as she issues advice to all parents

Jo Frost, who shot to Channel 4 fame as Supernanny in the early 2000s, has issued advice she claims all parents 'need to hear today' in order to help combat a 'drip-fed' bad habit Jo Frost became a household name in the early 2000s as a result of her Channel 4 series, Supernanny, in which she spent time with parents struggling with the behaviour of their troublesome children. Today, the 55-year old issues advice via social media and her latest post is something she claims all parents and carers "need to hear" today. ‌ "Social media didn't barge into your home... it crept in drip by drip," Jo began in an Instagram video. "And now it is quietly causing chaos." But what does the expert mean by this? Describing it as a "smart drug", she went on to explain how social media has resulted in particular in the downfall of families talking over dinner. ‌ "Teens live in a state of FOMO [fear of missing out] instead of JOHO [joy of hanging out]," she continued. ‌ However, Jo pointed out that the lack of interactions amongst family members isn't solely down the behaviour of children. "Parents scrolling past bedtime stories... past real connection," she said. "And partners? They're strangers on the same sofa. We say it's not that bad, but our nervous systems are screaming, 'I can't take it anymore!'" ‌ According to Jo, the "truth" is the mobile phone has become the "socially accepted vice" and we have become "functioning social media addicts". Despite this, there is "good news". The television star elaborated: "We can change it if you care enough to try. Put down the phone. Talk. Listen. Feel Awkward. Reconnect. "Because while you're numbing out, those tech companies are cashing in on the collapse of your family's foundations. Self discipline isn't sexy? Oh hell yeah it is. And it saves lives." ‌ So what can families to do to eradicate the bad habit over mobile phone over usage? "Use it as a tool, don't let it use you," she declared. "It needed to be said." Proving Jo's advice has the potential to work, one Instagram user penned in response: "I started putting down my phone as I realised everything will still be there and started organising many things and my mind feels so free and in control." A second person praised: "Thank you, Jo for sharing the message that we're all thinking and struggling to deal with." A third individual suggested: "Talks in schools from Jo Frost, that's what we need. She should be on the curriculum as well as in our homes and our hearts." Whilst a fourth Instagram user shared: "I am a mum of twins and I make a conscious effort to not be on my phone in front of them. It is always nearby, for photos but I limit my social media use to nap times and once they are in bed! "They are the only children I plan to have and I don't want them growing up remembering me looking at my phone all the time. I want to be a present figure in their lives, I want to watch them grow up."
