Roman Kemp ‘calls out' Olly Murs after awkward on-stage moment
The One Show star was reflecting on a recent appearance alongside Olly Murs after the pair competed in a celebrity darts tournament in London The One Show's Roman Kemp has called out Olly Murs after the pair recently appeared together on stage in front of thousands of fans. Earlier this month, celebrities were paired up with darts pros as they went head-to-head to see who would come out on top in a game of darts at the Hyde Park Darts Championship. The new competition, created by the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation), saw Roman join fellow celebs including Olly Murs, Dion Dublin, and Joe Swash, who were each partnered with a darts pro such as Luke Littler and Luke Humphries. Reflecting on the eagerly fought competition during a recent episode of his You About? podcast with Tom Grennan, Roman recalled his impressive display, throwing two "triple 20s." After narrowly missing out on the top spot—making it all the way to the finals—the radio host shared how Joe Swash and his partner, Fallon Sherrock, came out as deserved winners. Despite that, he revealed that the celebs had initially been lulled into a false sense of security by Joe before he went on to win the competition: "He kind of hustled us a little bit, because in the little area beforehand, we were all just practicing and he was c**p." However, he was less than impressed with how prepared one of his fellow celebrities was for the event, saying: "I'm going to call Olly out here. He turned up with his own shirt that had his name on it, all over it." He added: "Then his own darts—weighted darts—that had his name on them." But despite coming fully prepared for the occasion, Roman noted that the singer "went out first," adding, "So it was like, Olly's got to step that up." Away from trying his hand at darts, Roman has been a prominent figure in broadcasting in recent years. After originally co-hosting the Capital Breakfast show, last year he swapped radio for TV when he began co-hosting several programmes, including The One Show. Alongside his slew of hosting roles, many will also know him for his third-place finish on I'm A Celeb in 2019, as well as playing alongside fellow celebrities for England in Soccer Aid earlier this year. Roman has also used his platform to explore issues surrounding mental health, including the release of his BBC series Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency, which launched in 2021. He is also set to launch a new country-wide mental health initiative next month.

Martin Kemp and son Roman sparked complaints from neighbour who issued ‘demand'
Martin Kemp and son Roman sparked complaints from neighbour who issued 'demand' EastEnders icon Martin Kemp and The One Show star Roman Kemp have filmed Celebrity Gogglebox together for six years, but Roman says the show sparked a row with his neighbour Martin and Roman Kemp sparked "complaints" from a neighbour when filming Gogglebox (Image: Getty Images Europe ) Roman Kemp says an angry neighbour 'demanded' cash after he began filming Celebrity Gogglebox in his flat with his dad, Martin Kemp. The One Show star Roman, 32, and 63-year-old Martin started working on the hit Channel 4 show six years ago. When they made their debut on the show they recorded from Roman's flat. But on a recent episode of his You About? podcast with Tom Grennan, Roman revealed one of his neighbours objected to them using the property. Roman claims the angry neighbour even bought a guitar and an amplifier in a bid to interrupt the filming of the show. At one point he says the individual even went to Channel 4's headquarters and demanded to speak to production bosses. Roman explained: 'We shot it at my flat for a long time in the beginning. I used to have a neighbour downstairs…that person would try and delay filming to another level, just hated the fact that, it was my property, but hated the fact that stuff was going on. 'We weren't even loud but they just didn't like the fact there was television around it. They would buy a guitar and an amp and just be playing it as loud as possible during filming. This neighbour of mine walked to Channel 4 and demanded to see Mr Lambert because they demanded payment due to ear and sound assault.' It prompted Martin and Roman to swap filming to a specially selected 'show home'. Eventually however, former EastEnders star Martin agreed to let the producers use an annexe at his Hertfordshire property. Martin however insisted that producers 'stay in a van' outside of the property. Roman continued: 'My parents live in a really nice place where they have like a second home thing, like an annexe, to the right of the house that has a living room and a TV. 'My dad was like, 'Okay, look, you can shoot the show here, but everyone's got to wait outside in a van'. So they're all outside in the van, they wire all the cables, and my dad's like, 'You're not coming in for lunch, you're having your lunch in the van or outside, or whatever'.' On one occasion however, Roman says one of the producers had to ask whether they could use Martin's toilet. He recalled: 'All of a sudden one of the producers knocks on the door and literally pokes his head around the door because he knew he's not allowed to come in. And my dad was like, 'Course mate, don't be silly, come in, you never have to ask to use the toilet'. 'He points to him where the toilet is, it's like 10 feet away, so the bloke goes over there, and only guys will understand this. To have another guy say this to you, is like power play. 'My dad looked at this bloke and said, 'Yeah, course mate use the toilet'. Second he got to the door, he looked at him and said, 'Sit down though'.'

Roman Kemp says 'it will ruin the show' as he issues Gogglebox warning
Roman Kemp has been appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his dad, EastEnders icon Martin, for the past three years and has now 'ruined' the secrets of the hit Channel 4 show Roman Kemp has spilled the beans on Gogglebox's behind-the-scenes setup, revealing the show's "tiny TVs" and the guidance stars receive from producers. The One Show 's Roman, 32, has been appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his dad, EastEnders legend Martin Kemp, 63, since 2019. Initially, the duo began filming in Roman's flat, but a dispute with a neighbour led to interruptions during recordings. This hiccup forced them to film in a show home temporarily before settling into an annexe on the property where soap star Martin lives with his wife Shirlie. On his podcast You About? with musician Tom Grennan, Roman revealed that they spend roughly "four hours" each week filming for Gogglebox. He warned Gogglebox fans he was about to "ruin" some of the show's mystique. Roman remarked: "With Gogglebox, and they've done it for so many years, I don't think they mind me saying—you're not watching the entire show. By the way, if you like Gogglebox and don't want to know this, don't listen, because it will ruin the show a little bit," he said, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. He continued: "You watch on a smaller telly—the TV is so tiny. It's a small, tiny little monitor that you have to watch it on. And you're watching TV there with about three cameras in the room with you. They don't have people behind them—they're electronic. "There's a little voice, and the producer will talk to you and so on. You probably watch, out of an hour-long show or movie, 12 minutes. Usually, a cut-down is around 12 minutes; a lot of the time it's six or seven. "If you're watching a quiz show, you're only watching six minutes of that quiz show—the best bit. So that's when we were like, 'Okay, you've got to play this.'" Tom, who also appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox with his father, explained that celebrities "don't get TV time" if they misjudge what viewers want. This prompted Roman to explain that he and Martin quickly figured out what works for them. He added: "You have to figure out what people like watching from you. We found out quite quickly that literally the only parts of me and my dad being in it are when one of us is farting, one of us is falling over... What I will say, though, is that that is our relationship." While Roman and Martin eventually settled on using the former Spandau Ballet bassist's house as their filming base, Martin had a series of conditions for crew members. He told them they had to "sit outside in a van" and couldn't come in for lunch. He also told one producer they could only enter the property and use the facilities if they agreed to sit down. Roman joked: "Imagine, that poor producer went home and said, 'Martin Kemp made me have a sit-down wee today.'"

Roman Kemp's response to Lord Alan Sugar's 'unbelievable' online jibe
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Lord Alan Sugar has taken a surprising swipe at Roman Kemp, commenting on his appearance in an online exchange that has caught the attention of fans. On the You About? podcast, co-host Tom Grennan revealed he was "doom-scrolling" when he stumbled upon Lord Sugar in his feed. Tom, speaking about Roman, went on to say that the business tycoon was "having you up" as he recounted a peculiar interaction between Roman and The Apprentice star Lord Sugar on X (formerly known as Twitter). In this online back-and-forth, Lord Sugar didn't hold back, describing The One Show presenter Roman's hair as "weird" and questioning his followers about it, prompting a reaction from the host himself. Tom expressed his astonishment: "Mate, it's unbelievable. He just tweets: 'What a weird haircut Roman Kemp has. I know I'm a bit old and out of touch with some things, but what is it?'" (Image: Getty Images for IWC Schaffhausen) He continued: "That is a weird thing what a mental thing to go online and just be like: 'I'm gonna out Roman Kemp about his haircut'." Tom then affirmed his approval of his mate's hairstyle, which led Roman to respond: "No, thank you, but there are a lot of people that don't get it, which I understand, and I find that really fun to play with. So when I saw that, I was like, 'This is great'. I was like, 'Love this'." Roman hit back at the tweet with a reply to Lord Sugar, admitting he had "no idea on the true name" of his haircut and said the mogul should "feel free to suggest one". Lord Sugar, famed for his role on BBC's The Apprentice, didn't hold back when he dished out a less-than-complimentary response to The One Show presenter, quipping: "Dead beaver Davy Crocket." Roman appeared to find the remark funny, responding with a cascade of laughing emojis. He even went on to share that he'd name his fantasy football team after the moniker, as discussed on his podcast. (Image: NurPhoto via Getty Images) The banter continued as the hosts pointed out that Lord Sugar himself has sported some "mad haircuts" in his time, jesting that he was "Fozzie Bear-ing it up", nodding to the fuzzy Muppet. Taking the joke to social media, Roman posted screenshots of the online banter with Lord Sugar on Instagram, adding a playful caption alluding to The Apprentice: "Well... we've peaked. My hairs now been fired (sic)." He also threw in an old snap of Lord Sugar, playfully ribbing the business mogul's past hairstyle choices. Fans joined in the fun, with one commenting: "Tell me you're a bored billionaire without telling me you're a bored billionaire." Another fan chimed in supportively: "He only wishes he was as handsome as you at your age. I'd take it as a compliment that he's so bothered."

Martin Kemp makes touching death admission to son Roman after health scares
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Martin Kemp had a touching admission to son Roman after battling major health issues. The Spandau Ballet star had two metal plates put into his head in the 1990s after having two brain tumours. It led the EastEnders icon to take a three-year break from his professional career while he recovered. Martin, who won a plethora of awards for his role as Steve Owen in the BBC soap, said the tumours left him with 'controlled epilepsy'. After the surgery, he struggled with the use of one leg and said he had problems with one of his eyes. He even believes the tumours caused his dyslexia. Martin, 63, has previously confessed he doesn't believe he will live for another decade. It has led to a series of frank discussions with The One Show star Roman. On his You About? podcast with Tom Grennan, Roman said: 'I always say to my dad, 'What do you want to be known as when you die? What's on your grave stone?' And he literally says, 'A good man'. (Image: Dave Benett/WireImage via Getty Images) 'And I'm like, 'What is that?' Because it's not anything to do with success and that's what intrigues me. And I always think about that with people in the limelight.' Roman went on to say his father's desire to be remembered as a 'good man' gives him one big worry in life. He added: 'My worry about it is when I think about it, I go, 'Okay, am I a good person?' 'And then you think if it's how you treated people or if it's who you truly know yourself to be. You can't be nice to everyone.' During a conversation with Roman, Martin said "spent two years" believing he was on the brink of death after being diagnosed with the tumours in his thirties. He now sees each year he's lived "as a bonus". On their FFS! My Dad is Martin Kemp podcast, the Spandau bassist explained he has even considered his own funeral arrangements after the health battle. Martin said he would like to limit the 'private' event to around 20 people - although he previously confessed he believes only six would turn up, including his dog. After Roman pressed him for names, he said: "I wouldn't want to put anyone under pressure to come to the funeral, you know." (Image: Channel 4) Martin went on to recall similar sentiments when he once hosted a joint birthday party with his brother Gary Kemp, adding: "I hated it because I was putting people under pressure to come out for me, and I didn't like it at all." Further grilled by his son about the numbers, Martin continued: "I don't mind if it's 20 people or whether it's six, I'll be quite happy if it's six people, I don't mind. "I want a private funeral, I don't want people coming just to have a look or just to say, 'I was at Martin Kemp's funeral'. I don't want that at all, I would rather have six people that are there to say goodbye to me, because that's who I am."
