Remembering Tawfiq Kawar - Jordan News

Jordan News6 days ago

One month after bidding farewell to Tawfiq Amin Kawar, may God bless his soul; even as his passing has left an unfillable void in our hearts, we Jordanians continue to find solace in the enduring legacy he leaves behind. اضافة اعلان With individuals like him, time stands still, for his achievements, and invaluable contributions to our nation will continue to inspire generations to come. He walked quietly through history, leaving behind a trail of lessons, exemplary models, and a legacy that embodies the finest traits of the Jordanian character: perseverance, vision, integrity, and unwavering national loyalty. His life story is an integral part of Jordan's larger narrative of rise and resilience. The Kawar family has long been a symbol of industrious patriotism, with Tawfiq's father, Amin Kawar, pioneering the discovery of phosphate in Russeifa in 1935. Tawfiq not only inherited his father's legacy of great deeds, but redefined and reshaped it with his unique touch. In 1955, he founded Amin Kawar & Sons, establishing a top modern logistics and shipping powerhouse that bolstered Jordan's economy and charted a new course for maritime renaissance. Kawar's contributions extended far beyond business; he played a pivotal role in establishing the Jordan Shipping Association, founded the London-based Multiport Ship Agencies Network (MSAN), an international Club consisting of 171 leading ship agents across 1,500 ports, and served on key boards, including Aqaba Port Corporation, Jordan Phosphate Mines Company, Jordan Chemical Industries Company, Central Bank of Jordan, and Amman Chamber of Commerce. These positions were not merely roles but platforms for his sincere public service. Those who knew him describe a man who shunned the spotlight yet consistently delivered results, standing firmly for what he believed in. Despite towering achievements, Tawfiq remained humble, a respected statesman, and father figure. The most powerful testament to his legacy lies in the enduring noble values he instilled in his sons, Rudain and Karim, who lead the Kawar Group with the same ethos of service, dedication and innovation that defined their father's and grandfather's lives. Tawfiq's story serves as a profound reminder that Jordan's strength lies not only in its institutions, but also in the individuals who quietly and steadily build them. His life deserves to be remembered, not only in business circles but in the hearts and minds of Jordanians, young and old. We owe it to our children and the future of our nation to tell iconic stories like Kawar's proudly, publicly, and permanently, for heroes serve as our best examples in humanity's journey. Though he's gone, his spirit remains, a gentle whisper in our souls, reminding us of the power of love, wisdom, and giving.

Saudi ACWA Power in Strategic Partnership Talks with Solwie Energy for Solar Investments in Turkey

سرايا - Ankara – June 2025 Saudi Arabia-based energy giant ACWA Power has entered into talks to establish strategic partnerships with local players as part of its planned $2 billion solar energy investment in Turkey. One of the most prominent potential partners under consideration is Solwie Energy, a rapidly growing Turkish company in the renewable energy sector. According to a report released by SDE, ACWA Power is particularly focusing on both licensed and unlicensed solar projects in regions of Turkey with high solar potential. The ongoing discussions with Solwie Energy are said to be at an advanced stage. Although Solwie Energy has not made any official statement regarding the negotiations, company officials have signaled positively toward the possibility of a strategic alliance. Talks are reportedly centered around areas such as project development, engineering, domestic supply chains, and green hydrogen integration. As part of its Turkey operations, ACWA Power aims to establish a solar energy portfolio exceeding 1000 MW, a move expected to contribute significantly to regional economic growth and energy supply security. Solwie Energy CEO Samet Koç has previously emphasized the company's mission, stating: 'We are committed to being a part of the global energy transition through local expertise.' He has also underscored that Turkey should be seen not only as an investment destination but also as a hub for production and technology. Industry sources highlight that this collaboration could support Turkey's energy independence goals while also fostering mutual trust between domestic and international investors.

Government: Vehicle Tax Reduction Decision is Final and in the Public's Interest - Jordan News

Minister of State for Economic Affairs Mohannad Shihadeh confirmed that the government's decision to reduce vehicle taxes, announced on Saturday, is final and conclusive, emphasizing that it is intended to serve the best interests of citizens. اضافة اعلان In an interview with Radio Hala, Shihadeh stated that the decision is part of a broader package of 94 economic stimulus measures adopted by the government, all aimed at boosting economic growth and enhancing quality of life, in alignment with the country's Economic Modernization Vision. He noted that the decision carries two key dimensions: Financial – Making it easier for citizens to purchase high-quality, advanced vehicles at affordable prices. Regulatory – Banning the import of 'salvage' vehicles, which have been involved in accidents, flooding, or fires and previously entered the Kingdom under exceptions beyond the national standards. Shihadeh revealed that 40,000 salvage vehicles entered Jordan last year under special exceptions. As a result, the government decided to regulate the sector by imposing a specific technical standard. Additionally, the import of used electric vehicles, including from the current model year, has been banned for the past three years. He emphasized that the decision benefits citizens in two key ways: Lower vehicle prices Higher quality standards for imported cars, which must now meet clear Jordanian specifications and originate from known manufacturers. Shihadeh stressed that all citizens will benefit from this decision. While some may sell their current vehicles at a lower price, they will also be able to buy better vehicles at reduced costs, ensuring that everyone gains. He added that when customs duties are reduced by 27%, 28%, or even 35%, along with regulatory stability and unified tax brackets, this will stimulate demand, revitalize the auto market, and enhance purchasing power by driving prices down.
