McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown admitted that he wasn't "surprised" by Red Bull Racing's decision to part ways with Christian Horner, seemingly suggesting that his ousting was imminent. Brown highlighted that there was "a lot of drama" at Red Bull that kept getting "worse."
Horner's Red Bull split arrived after he had served the team for twenty years, shocking the world of F1. However, Brown likely saw it coming, given the controversies that made headlines when the 2024 season had just begun.
The former Red Bull team boss was accused of inappropriate behavior by a female colleague, which led to an internal investigation. However, he was cleared of any wrongdoing by Red Bull GmbH.
Horner reportedly received flak from Max Verstappen's father, Jos Verstappen, for what had unfolded. This followed reports of an internal power struggle between Horner and senior advisor Helmut Marko. High-profile exits from Red Bull, such as Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley, soon followed, leading to a management shuffle.

While Red Bull didn't reveal the reason for Horner's immediate departure, Brown suggested that he saw it coming. In an interview with TSN, the McLaren boss was asked if he was surprised by Horner's exit. He said:
"Maybe the timing, but not the result. There's been a lot of drama there the last couple of years and it doesn't seem like that drama has been calming down, maybe even been getting worse. So, I'm not surprised, anytime in the middle of the season."
Brown revealed that he was more focused on the F1 season ahead, with both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris leading the Drivers' Standings in the same order. Verstappen is placed third in the championship, 69 points adrift of Piastri. Brown added:
"But, we're head down on our Championship. They've got Max still knocking on the door, so we've got to pay attention to that. But, tremendous amount of success they had."
With Horner linked to Ferrari and Alpine F1 teams, Brown predicts he could return to motorsports in the future. He said:
"I think given his age and his history in motor racing, I'd be surprised if he didn't show up somewhere in motor racing.
"But I don't know his other interests, whether he wants to go run a football team or what have you. We'll see."
Asked if he was following news about Horner, Brown said:
"Yeah. But couldn't be happier with Oscar and Lando. So, sure to be the interested spectator. I'm very happy with my driver line-up. So, I don't want to spend any time on other than what pops up on my phone."

AJ Brown Claims New Eagles WR Making Camp 'Uncomfortable'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. It might be difficult for a newcomer to stand out in the Philadelphia Eagles' group of wide receivers. With AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith headlining the unit, the Eagles have had one of the most star-studded groups in the league, leading up to training camp in 2025. Terrace Marshall Jr. recently signed a one-year deal with the Eagles and is looking to make an impact in any way he can. So far, the veteran wideout has made the room "uncomfortable," according to the star, AJ Brown. "He's coming along quite well, honestly," Brown said in regard to Marshall. "Even in the spring, he was making a lot of catches. I know [the media] didn't see it, but he's going to make the room very uncomfortable, you know? That's a great thing." A.J. Brown #11 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks on during warm ups before a game against the Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field on December 08, 2024 in Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaMarshall entered the NFL in 2021, following his stint with the LSU Tigers. He was a fairly high pick, landing on the Carolina Panthers in the second round at 59th overall. During his first season with the Panthers, Marshall caught just 17 passes for 138 yards. He didn't reach the endzone until his second season in the league. In 14 games, Marshall caught 28 passes for 490 yards and one score. When the 2023 season rolled around, Marshall played in just nine matchups. For the second time in three seasons, he failed to exceed 200 yards. Once again, Marshall didn't score at all. After getting waived by the Panthers last summer, Marshall joined the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. They released him in October, which led Marshall to join the Las Vegas Raiders. It took about a month before he was elevated to the active roster. With the Raiders, Marshall appeared in seven games. He caught just three passes for 41 yards. Marshall will get a chance to make an impact on the Eagles. He enters Philadelphia with 43 games under his belt. The young veteran has produced a little over 800 receiving yards. Despite struggling to meet expectations early on his career, Marshall has turned heads on the Super Bowl-winning Eagles this offseason. He might struggle to earn a ton of targets in an offense that has Brown, Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Saquon Barkley, but an endorsement from Brown is certainly something Marshall should feel good about right now. "I'm excited to see the room continue to evolve," Brown finished. "Not just him, but everybody, push each other. I'm excited." For more Philadelphia Eagles and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports

When Is The 2025 F1 Belgian Grand Prix? Times And Watch Guide

(Photo by Jakub Porzycki/NurPhoto via Getty Images) Formula 1 resumes action this weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix from July 25-27, with Spa-Francorchamps hosting the third sprint of the 2025 season. Things have now pretty much boiled down to a two-horse title race between McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris after the latter scored two successive wins at Red Bull Ring and Silverstone for the first time in his career. The Briton positioned himself just eight points behind his teammate in the drivers' standings, now looking to complete a hat trick of victories this weekend and rack up extra points in the sprint in the hopes of heading into the summer break on top. (Photo by) It's going to be a busy weekend, yet the big talking point at the moment remains the dawn of a new era for Red Bull after the firing of its long-standing team principal, with Belgium marking the team's first grand prix without Christian Horner at the helm. The Briton has steered the ship since the Milton Keynes outfit joined the F1 grid back in 2005, leading the squad to 14 titles during his tenure. New team boss Laurent Mekies now has big shoes to fill and it remains to be seen how he manages the pressure and challenges ahead in getting the squad back on track. Right now, the team is sitting in fourth place in the constructors' standings with 172 points in 12 rounds, which is quite a gap of 288 points behind the leaders McLaren. Their star driver, Max Verstappen, has been having a tough time getting the problematic RB21 car to catch up with the Woking squad's formidable pace. He has only managed to score two wins so far in Japan and Emilia Romagna and is currently sitting in third place in the standings, trailing Norris by 61 points and Piastri by 69 points. The team's current struggles and internal turmoil have made Verstappen's future up in the air, and the recent structure change only makes it seem more and more like he could be on his way out. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is undoubtedly keeping a close watch on the Dutchman's situation, perhaps hoping to lure him over to the Silver Arrows.
