
BYD Atto 2 to officially launch in Malaysia on July 24
The BYD Atto 2's public launch event is set to happen from July 25 to 27 at Heritage Valley in Kuala Lumpur. Visitors are not only able to test drive the new Atto 2 but also other BYD EV models such as Atto 3 Ultra, Sealion 7, Seal, and M6.
The launch event will also feature EV experts who will be on hand to answer all the questions in regards to electric mobility. There will also be additional activities at the event, including pickleball and roller skate sessions, as well as lucky draws and giveaways.

BYD Atto 2 quick specs
Yesterday's announcement focused solely on the launch event, though. So, we don't know anything about the variant of Atto 2 that BYD will release in Malaysia at the moment and the information that we have at the moment is based on the announcement for the European market.
As far as the international market is concerned, Atto 2 currently only comes in one variant, which is powered by a 45.12 kWh BYD Blade LFP battery that allows it to deliver up to 312km of WLTP-rated range. There is supposed to be another variant with a bigger battery capacity (51.1kWh according to several Australian medias), but so far we have not seen it being released into the market just yet.
Regardless of the battery capacity, Atto 2 for the international markets features a 130kW (174hp) electric motor that produces 290Nm of torque. The specs sheet noted that the EV can go from 0 to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds, while it also has a maximum speed of 160km/h.

The European specs sheet also said that the Atto 2 is 4,290mm long, 1,770mm wide, and 1,570mm tall, which makes it as big as the Proton X50. The EV also has a wheelbase of 2,620mm, which is slightly shorter than Atto 3 (2,720mm) and even Dolphin (2,700mm).
With a kerb weight of 1,570kg, that puts the Atto 2 nicely in between Atto 3 and Dolphin as well. The Atto 2 also offers 400L of boot space, which can be expanded further to 1,340L once you fold down its rear seats.
For the European market, it comes standard with an 11kW 3-phase AC on-board charger, and it takes around 6 hours and 12 minutes for the Atto 2 to be fully charged from empty. The EV also supports a DC charging speed of up to 65kW, which allows it to be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent through DC charging in 37 minutes.

The Atto 2 was released in Europe with two trims, including Active and Boost, which mainly differ in terms of selected comfort and tech features. For example, Atto 2 Boost comes with a 12.8-inch infotainment display and 8 audio speakers, while the Atto 2 Active has a smaller 10.1-inch display and 6 audio speakers.

Bursa Malaysia Lower At Midday As Investors Assess US Tariff Impact
WORLD KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia continued its negative tone at midday as investors assessed the impact of United States (US) tariffs on key trading partners amid mixed regional market performance. At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 4.25 points, or 0.28 per cent, to 1,533.26 from Monday's close of 1,537.51. The benchmark index opened 1.45 points lower at 1,536.06, and subsequently moved between 1,532.41 and 1,538.56 during the session. The broader market was negative with decliners outnumbering gainers 464 to 367, while 477 counters were unchanged, 1,121 untraded and eight suspended. Turnover stood at 1.86 billion units worth RM1.04 billion. In a research note today, Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) anticipates the FBM KLCI to remain in consolidation phase as investors weigh the broader implications of the United States' (US) renewed tariff rhetoric, targeting key trading partners. It said the benchmark index was further pressured by a confluence of external and domestic overhangs, namely uncertainty surrounding the US-Malaysia tariff negotiations, with a potentially prolonged process to reduce the 25 per cent import duties ahead of the Aug 1 deadline 'Therefore, we see the FBM KLCI weekly supports and resistances at 1,500-1,528 and 1,551-1,570, respectively,' it said. Meanwhile, Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng believes that the local market velocity should improve going forward, though the impact from the overnight policy rate (OPR) cut will not be immediately felt.

While the oil and gas sector may be experiencing job losses now, industry experts anticipate a resurgence of opportunities, particularly in greener sectors such as Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), within the next two to three years. (Evanto Elements pic) PETALING JAYA : The oil and gas industry, once stable and resistant to change, is now under intense pressure to rethink how it operates. Shifting global demand, ongoing political conflicts and volatile commodity markets are forcing the sector to adapt like never before. Recently, major international corporations such as Shell, BP and Chevron have undertaken comprehensive operational restructuring, including significant workforce reductions. Investment strategies are being reshaped by the triple-threat of rising operational expenses, tougher environmental regulations, and the substantial cost of adopting advanced technologies—resulting in significant adjustments to workforce size and structure. Out-of-commission oil fields Operating costs have risen, especially in upstream exploration and production. With the easier- to-reach resources fast depleting, oil companies must now tap into the more difficult reserves like sour gas and deepwater projects, which require higher investment. As a result, oil companies have begun re-evaluating their corporate investment plans, with a projected 6% decline in upstream oil investment projected in 2025—the first year-on-year reduction since 2020. Oil companies are struggling as drilling costs rise and price forecasts weaken. Active rigs are drilling at significantly lower levels slowing upstream activity. With oil prices hovering around US$63 per barrel, shrinking profit margins are forcing firms to delay or cancel projects. Earlier this year, ConocoPhillips exited its joint-venture with Petronas in the US$3.3 billion (RM13.7 billion) Salam-Patawali deepwater oil and gas project, first discovered in 2018. The company has also announced plans to shrink its global workforce by end-2025. They are also reportedly eyeing the sale of assets in the Permian Basin worth over US$1 billion (RM4.2 billion). They are not the only ones. US-based Chevron plans to cut 15% to 20% of its global workforce, potentially impacting 6,000 to 8,000 employees, over the next year. Meanwhile, ExxonMobil will release nearly 400 workers in 2026 following its merger with Pioneer Natural Resources. BP, based in the UK, is in the midst of plans to eliminate 4,700 jobs and 3,000 contractor positions by 2026 as part of a US$2 billion cost-cutting drive. In the UK's North Sea, Spain's Repsol is also looking to shrink its workforce through field decommissioning, potentially impacting 2,000 jobs. These layoffs reflect a broader industry trend of adapting to economic uncertainties, declining output from maturing fields, and the increasing focus on cost optimisation and energy transition. Impact of green regulations Adherence to environmental compliance is also becoming increasingly capital-intensive. More stringent global regulations concerning carbon emissions, flaring and methane management are obliging companies to allocate significant investment toward monitoring systems, equipment upgrades and cleaner processes. This includes a growing focus on Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) projects, which are projected to experience a tenfold increase in investment by 2027. Non-compliance with these evolving environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria pose significant business risks, such as limited access to funding and reputational damage. To manage these rising obligations, many entities are streamlining their workforces in high-carbon divisions. Heavy upfront costs Companies are investing more in advanced technologies like automation, artificial intelligence (AI) for data analysis and compliance, and monitoring systems powered by the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve efficiency and meet regulatory demands. While these technological upgrades may yield long-term cost reductions, their implementation necessitates substantial upfront capital expenditure, such as modernising rigs with automation capabilities or deploying sophisticated AI-driven monitoring systems. Widespread adoption of AI alone could potentially lead to cost savings ranging from 10% to 20% by 2025. This shift toward technology-driven models is streamlining operations, replacing traditional roles with automated solutions, and consolidating functions to boost productivity and financial stability—rather than simply expanding existing setups. Zetrix AI to file judicial review against Bursa over announcement breach penalty
Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd fined Zetrix AI Bhd's seven directors RM150,000 each for failing to ensure that three company announcements in 2023 were factual and accurate. PETALING JAYA : Zetrix AI Bhd, formerly known as MyEG Services Bhd, will seek a judicial review against Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd over a penalty imposed on its seven directors in relation to three company announcements made two years ago. In a bourse filing today, Zetrix AI said its board of directors consulted the firm's lawyers and decided to apply for a judicial review. 'Further announcements on any material developments will be made as and when it is appropriate and/or necessary,' the firm said. Yesterday, Bursa fined Zetrix AI's seven directors RM150,000 each for failing to ensure that three company announcements in 2023 were factual and accurate, breaching the main market listing requirements. The seven are Wong Thean Soon, Norraesah Mohamad, Jimmy Wong Abdullah, Wong Kok Chau, Mokhtar Shariff, Jeffrey Joakim, and Mohaini Yusof. Bursa said Zetrix AI announced on July 7, 2023, among others, that a notification letter dated July 4, 2023 from the home ministry confirmed the finance ministry's approval of the company's appointment as the government revenue collection agent and extended its role as the provider of online services for the immigration department. Bursa however said that the July 7 announcement was inaccurate, false and misleading as it was inconsistent with the contents of the July 4 letter. It said Zetrix AI and the directors also failed to make an immediate announcement to clarify the inconsistency, but maintained its misrepresentation of matters in the company's subsequent announcements on Sept 13 and Sept 14 that year. '(This occurred despite) market concerns as reported by New Straits Times on Sept 12, 2023 in an article titled 'MyEG illegally renewing workers' permits', and by The Edge titled 'MyEG said to be charging fees for foreign worker permits despite contract suspension'.' Bursa said there was no reasonable justification for the failure of the company and directors to ensure that the announcements were factual and accurate, and comply with the directive. It also said that the firm had represented, among others, that the announcements were accurate and justified based on the past contract renewals and historical precedent in relation to the extension. On June 30, the concessionaire for the Malaysia electronic-government MSC flagship application announced its name change to Zetrix AI, also changing its stock short name from MYEG to Zetrix.
