Chandigarh, Jun 13 (PTI) Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday alleged that 'endless' power cuts amid soaring temperatures have made life 'hell' for the people of Punjab, yet the ruling AAP was making 'empty claims' of uninterrupted electricity supply.
He alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's 'tall promises have collapsed like a house of cards'.
In a statement, Bajwa also accused the AAP government of making 'hollow promises while the people of Punjab continue to suffer from frequent and unannounced power cuts'.
Bajwa said that despite repeated assurances by the AAP government about ensuring uninterrupted electricity to domestic consumers, farmers, and industries, the ground reality paints a starkly different picture.
'With paddy transplantation already underway across large parts of the state, farmers are struggling to cope with erratic and unreliable power supply. In both urban and rural areas, residents are facing long hours of load shedding.
The government, however, continues to indulge in shallow publicity rather than addressing the real crisis,' Bajwa said.
He highlighted that temperatures have soared to 44 degrees Celsius in parts of Punjab, intensifying the public's distress.
'In cities like Mohali, sleepless nights and sweltering days have become routine due to frequent outages. The situation in smaller towns and villages is even more dire,' he said.
Bajwa also pointed out the 'deteriorating condition' of the PSPCL.
'PSPCL is unable to carry out essential repair work properly, and there is an acute shortage of staff to manage breakdowns. The system is on the brink, and the government remains indifferent,' Bajwa said.
'The AAP government has failed miserably on every front it once promised to reform. Unfortunately, it is the people of Punjab who are paying the price for its incompetence and apathy,' he added. PTI SUN RHL

Relief for Nawab Malik! Defamation case against ex-Maharashtra minister closed as BJP functionary withdraws complaint
Former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik on Monday was granted relief by a magistrate court in Mumbai following BJP functionary Mohit Kamboj withdrew his complaint, reported PTI. In the ruling, the court said, as quoted by the PTI, 'The accused stands acquitted of the offence under IPC section 500 (defamation) and the proceeding is hereby closed.' Earlier, the BJP functionary filed the application for withdrawal of the case under section 257 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). According to Section 257 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), a complainant can withdraw his or her complaint at any time before a final order is passed. However, the magistrate should be satisfied with the grounds for withdrawal and if permitted by the magistrate, then the accused gets acquitted. "Since this court is desirous of keeping the said case on a day-to-day basis, I am desirous to withdraw the case filed against the accused as I will be unable to attend the court on a daily basis," PTI quoted Kamboj saying in his application. "I have voluntarily decided to withdraw the case, and no undue pressure or coercion has been exerted upon me in this regard," it added. Earlier in 2021, Kamboj had filed a complaint in the court alleging Nawab Malik had defamed him and his brother-in-law following the NCB raided a cruise ship in October 2021. In his complaint, Kamboj claimed that Nawab in his press conference on arresting several persons including actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan had 'purposefully and intentionally defamed' him and s brother-in-law Rishab Sachdev. NCP leader and ex-Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik alleged that Aryan Khan's arrest was a forgery. Kamboj had sought action against Malik for allegedly committing offences under sections 499 and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.
