End of an era as Neighbours wraps filming after 40 years

Neighbours has wrapped production after 40 years on our screens.
The final episode of the Amazon Prime Video era – the 9,363rd – will air on Thursday, December 11th.
This news will undoubtedly be a devastating blow to fans across the globe who have witnessed the continuing drama be axed three times. Just two years ago, we were gearing up for what was then billed as the 'finale', before Amazon swooped in with a life line.
A real soapy twist.
Neighbours' impact is immeasurable. From nurturing talent in all departments, producing household names like Kylie Minogue and Margot Robbie, to gaining an unlikely cultural significance in Britain.
And, as this chapter of the Ramsay Street story comes to a close, cast and crew have reflected on four decades of producing the perfect blend of drama and heart-warming community spirit.
Executive producer Jason Herbison described the soap as 'special', adding that it has been a 'privilege' to oversee the recent seasons. He has been with the show intermittently since 1990, when he landed a storyliner position.
'We have added 460 episodes to our legacy of over 9000 episodes, something we all feel proud of,' he told us, as the cameras stop rolling.
'Once again, we will be resting the residents of Ramsay Street on a hopeful note, with some tantalising possibilities for a future chapter.'

Original cast member Stefan Dennis, who has played Paul Robinson across two separate stints, is bursting with gratitude.
'I never thought a single show would give me the greatest adventures of my career, spanning 40 years,' he reflected, 'Without Neighbours I would not have meet the people, been to the places and lived the experiences of a lifetime. Thank you all.'
His sentiments are shared by Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne, who have played beloved couple Karl and Susan Kennedy since 1994.
Describing the show as his 'happy place for over 30 years', Alan said: 'I will always treasure the creative freedom and enthusiasm amongst the whole team that has allowed us to produce a brilliant show for so long.'
Jackie added: 'It's impossible to measure the gratitude I feel for the gift of 30 years on Neighbours.
'It's a special thing to be part of a national icon. Neighbours is nothing like I had imagined; it has been blessing on blessing for me. Fulfilling, stabilising, and heart-filling. Long live the Icon.' – Naomi Rukavina, Remi Varga-Murphy.

Annie Jones – better known as Plain Jane Superbrain Harris – first filmed at the Nunawading Studios in 1986, shortly after it was revived for the first time on Channel 10. After a number of guest stints, she returned five years ago full time.
'It's been a pleasure and a delight to work with such a talented group of people who embrace every challenging episode with enthusiasm and dedication,' she recalls.
'I'll miss not being a part of the machine that is Neighbours.'
Metro understands that sets have already begun to be dismantled at the production base on the outskirts of Melbourne. More Trending
The studio site – which was sold to property redevelopers a number of years ago but is on a long-lease to programme makers Fremantle Media – is hoped to be reused for other productions in the future.
The show's fictional cul-de-sac, which is doubled by the real life Pin Oak Court in Vermont South, was last filmed on a week ago. It's undoubtable that it will continue to be a pilgrimage for fans to visit for many years to come.
