Neighbours star Jackie Woodburne announces shock career move

Neighbours star Jackie Woodburne has revealed a surprising career move following the official end of production on the long-running Aussie soap earlier this month. The veteran actress, 69, will co-star alongside former Coronation Street favourite Kym Marsh, 49, in a brand new TV thriller titled Imposter. The series marks Jackie's first non-Neighbours role in more than 30 years. The beloved performer has not appeared in a single production since stepping onto Ramsay Street as Susan Kennedy back in 1994. Imposter will feature Jackie as matriarch Helen, whose refusal to sell her seaside hotel sparks a dramatic family feud with her three adult children. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The plot thickens when Amanda, played by Marsh, arrives claiming to be Helen's long-lost daughter given up for adoption years ago. As Amanda integrates into the family, doubts arise about her true identity, leading to a gripping tale of deception and betrayal that culminates in murder, according to the series' synopsis. The series is set to be filmed across Victoria later this year. Jackie has played Susan, the wife of co-star Alan Fletcher's character Dr Karl Kennedy, since 1994. It follows reports that Fletcher is wasting no time embracing a new chapter following the end of Neighbours production. Last week, it was revealed the beloved Australian actor has swapped Ramsay Street for the stage, announcing a surprise music tour in the UK. Just one week after filming wrapped on the iconic Australian soap, the 68-year-old - best known for playing Dr Karl Kennedy since 1987 - arrived in London with wife Jennifer Hansen to embrace his musical endeavours. Jennifer shared the exciting news on social media on Friday, posting a cheerful snap of herself and Alan beaming after touching down in England. 'Arrived in London with Alan and getting excited about our first gig at the Bedford Pub on July 22nd,' she wrote, hinting at big things ahead for her husband's post-soap career. The Perth-born actor is one of the most beloved stars to ever appear on the Aussie soap opera. It comes after the long-running soap opera was abruptly axed in February and the final days of filming were completed earlier this month. Amazon did not renew their contract with production company Fremantle Australia. In response to the shock announcement, an Amazon spokesperson told MailOnline: 'Neighbours has brought so much joy over the last 40 years to its fanbase globally. 'Forty years is an incredible milestone and we are proud that Amazon MGM Studios was able to have a small part of bringing further episodes to Freevee and Prime Video customers over the last two years.' In a heartwarming post, the crew assured fans that new episodes from the 40th anniversary season would continue to be broadcast on Prime Video and Ten, with 'all the big soapie twists and turns our viewers love'. The final ever episodes will air at the end of 2025 with fans forced to say goodbye to Ramsay Street for a second time, after first being axed in February 2022.

All Neighbours spoilers for next week as character suffers amnesia

Neighbours are lining up a huge week for the Varga-Murphy family, as one member of the clan is diagnosed with amnesia. To make matters worse, in the wake of their accent, they completely forget another member of their clan. A very Ramsay Street story! Luckily, an 80s legend is on hand to give them some TLC in Erinsborough Hospital. It's a big week for Jane Harris (Annie Jones), too. She firstly discovers that ex-fiancé Mike Young (Guy Pearce) is engaged to his new partner, and then learns that Leo Tanaka (Tim Kano) has been secretly recording her, fearing that she was mistreating his daughter Abigail. In the aftermath, Jane makes a shocking admission… Elsewhere, Andrew Rodwell (Lloyd Will) can't resist keeping an eye on Holly Hoyland (Lucinda Armstrong-Hall) when she fears working alone, and Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) notices that Saskia Ramsay (Mia Foran) is being overly clingly. Desperate for answers, she and Wendy Rodwell (Candice Leask) contact her old school. For all the hottest goss from Down Under, consider Metro your very own copy of the West Waratah Star! Here's a look at next week in Neighbours… Aaron (Matt Wilson) checks in on Jane under the pretence of visiting the girls, with Sam (Henrietta Graham) confiding in him that she has some major news about her dad Mike. He's been engaged to girlfriend Angela – and they try their upmost to keep it from Jane. She soon smells a rat and pretends that she's unbothered, but when they're gone, starts to pack away photos of her and Mike together. Leo feels regretful about installing a spy-cam on Abigail's tablet so that he can monitor Jane's treatment of her, and Krista (Majella Davis) volunteers to retrieve it and stop the recording. However, when before she can get the chance, she finds it first and is mortified. Elsewhere, Saskia is becoming overly clingy with Susan, and is disappointed when she wraps up their time together at Eirini to go to the Sonya Rebecchi Foundation. Susan's stunned when the youngster follows her there, beginning to find her closeness a little peculiar, and is relieved when Max (Ben Jackson) offers to take her for lunch. Saskia is frustrated, saying she doesn't need babysitting anymore, and emotionally blackmails her brother into believing that it wasn't her who locked Wendy in the school store room. Across the Complex, Krista is feeling positive about Paul's (Stefan Dennis) proposal for the hotel event, but is deflated when he decides that he'll plan it all himself. As she debriefs to Terese (Rebekah Elmaloglou), the two women are clearly feeling out of sorts. Terese is ashamed about having to sell Power Road, and Krista encourages her to be honest with Paul, Karl (Alan Fletcher) and Susan. Another person feeling like they've failed themselves is Byron (Xavier Molyneux). He admits to Leo that he doesn't know what he wants to do in life, and later downloads to Trevor the dog about feeling directionless. Jane demands answers from Leo, who – although apologetic – stands by his decision to protect Abigail. Nicolette (Hannah Monson), Krista and Aaron are furious with him, but as they view the footage, they do discover something concerning. They can see her packing away photos, and acting out sorts. The group rush over to confront her, but she's nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, there's a concern for Jane's welfare. The next day, having reunited with her mum, Nic encourages her mum to open up. She coyly admits that her erratic behaviour has been stemmed from the fear of dying alone like her mum Amanda (Briony Behets). The problems continue for the Harris-Stone clan when Byron snaps at Taye(Lakota Johnson) when his phone keeps pinging, assuming that it's Sadie (Emerald Chan) reaching out. Max decides to stage an intervention, which leaves him with an idea. Down at Lassiters, Holly is fearful that Gavin Bowman (Cameron MacDonald) will seek her out while working on the drinks van by the lake. She explains to Max and Taye that she doesn't want to let Krista down, or live in fear. The two ask a huge favour from Cara (Sara West) as she begins her new career in the police force: will she protect Holly? Cara puts the lads at ease, reassuring them that the police are keeping a close eye on Bowman, but Remi (Naomi Rukavina) feels unsettled by the situation. Little do they all realise, Holly has sought an alternative solution. She's landed on Andrew's doorstep asking for support, but he stands firm on his boundaries and sends her on her way. On Power Road, Max and Taye run into Bowman at the garage, and he instantly gets under Taye's skin. The lads force him to take his business elsewhere. Holly's saddened when Andrew messages her to say that he's passed the task of her protection onto Cara. Nevertheless, she's still more then capable – and steps up her investigation after hearing about his insults to Taye. She chases after him down an alleyway in the Complex, unaware that Remi is also making her way down. The two women clash, and Remi is knocked unconscious. Elsewhere, Wendy feels neglected by Andrew when she wants to discuss the storeroom incident, and instead turns to Susan. She notes that Saskia has become quite intense over the last few days, and the two women resolve to contact her old school in Queensland for some answers. Following Remi's accident, Holly is left alone. Andrew hears that she's by herself and tries to hide his concern, while Karl keeps his daughter company at the drinks van. He ends up being more of a nuisance than expected, and when she snaps, he leaves her. Andrew decides to keep an eye from a distance, hiding in the bushes. However, he knows that the next day, the station's resources will be too stretched to keep an eye on her. At the hospital, Remi regains consciousness but is still unresponsive. She knocked her head on the corner of the table, and everyone is concerned for her wellbeing. At first glance, it seems like she's doing well… but Remi begins to panic that Cara will only land herself in more trouble with Bowman, and the stress is not helping her recovery! Later, she experiences a concerning neurological event while talking to Terese, and as her family arrive for a visit, it's clear that she only remembers Dex and JJ. She has no memory of ever meeting Cara. Cara is devastated that her wife can't remember her, and she begins to spiral when it's clear that she's the only one she's forgotten. Remi's neurologist Dr Tucker seeks a second opinion from 80s icon Dr Beverly Marshall (Shaunna O'Grady), who comes to the conclusion that she must be suffering from systematised amnesia. Taye tries to piece together his sister's version of her life that she remembers, and is horrified that she thinks she raised Dex and JJ on her own. Elsewhere, Karl moves into his new workspace, with Terese revealing that the powers that be have approved her application to rezone Power Road. Karl is worried what this might mean for the tenants of the various businesses that line the thoroughfare, including his tram cafe. Plus, Holly and Andrew are put into an awkward position when Wendy insists that she and Max join them for breakfast. The conversation turns to Bowman, and when Andrew toes the company line, Holly is left feeling hurt. More Trending Later, Wendy suggests to her husband that she pays a visit to the pavilion to check on Holly, but as he watches on, he spots Holly and Max kissing. Simmering with jealousy, he makes his way over. There, she asks him to make up his mind – does he care about her or not? Sneak peak at cast's final days on Neighbours set as beloved Aussie soap wraps filming of last ever season

Fans are preparing for the end of long-running Aussie soap opera Neighbours and now they've been given a glimpse into the final days of production. A slew of photos were posted to Facebook and Instagram on Friday showing the cast during the last stretch of filming, along with a caption that pulled on long-time watchers' heartstrings. 'Today marks the final day of production on our beloved Neighbours,' it read. 'It's with a heavy heart that our incredible cast and crew wrap for the final time. As sad as this day may be, we can't wait for you to see the amazing storylines that are about to unfold over the coming six months.' The caption ended: 'Together we have been, and always will be, the perfect blend.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. In one of the images, veteran stars Stefan Dennis, Rebekah Elmaloglou, Jackie Woodburne and Alan Fletcher stood alongside each other with pained smiles as they waved goodbye to an era. Another showed the whole Neighbours cast dressed up warm as they posed on Ramsay Street for the last time during their final stint on set. As four decades of Neighbours came to an end last week, Annie Jones and Stefan Dennis showed support for their fellow cast members in an emotional final day on set. The actress, 55, first appeared on the beloved soap in 1986 as Jane Harris, aka Plain Jane Superbrain, and was on hand this week to offer a supportive shoulder. She was seen with her arm around fellow cast members as they came together to mark the end of an era at Melbourne's Nunawading studios. Annie chose to step away from the spotlight in 1989 to look after her late mother, Elizabeth, who battled Alzheimer's disease and passed away in 2016. She later reprised her role in 2018 and has been a regular fixture on the show ever since. Soap veteran Stefan, 66, who has played Paul Robinson on the series for four decades, was also seen on set for the final scenes of the concluding episode. The actor, who was part of the original Neighbours cast when it debuted in 1985, left the show in 1992 but returned in 2004. He clutched buckets of Chupa Chups lollipops for his castmates. 'I never thought a single show would give me the greatest adventures of my career, spanning 40 years,' Stefan said in a statement released by Prime Video. 'Without Neighbours, I would not have met the people, been to the places and lived the experiences of a lifetime.' The final episode of Neighbours is set to air on December 11, and the news will undoubtedly be a devastating blow to fans across the globe who have seen the ongoing drama axed three times. Just two years ago, fans were gearing up for what was then billed as the 'finale' before Amazon swooped in with a lifeline. The impact of Neighbours is immeasurable and has produced household names like Kylie Minogue and Margot Robbie. As this chapter of the Ramsay Street story comes to a close, executive producer Jason Herbison described the soap as 'special', adding that it has been a 'privilege' to oversee the recent seasons. The producer has been with the show intermittently since 1990 when he landed a storyliner position. He told Metro: 'We have added 460 episodes to our legacy of over 9000 episodes, something we all feel proud of. 'Once again, we will be resting the residents of Ramsay Street on a hopeful note, with some tantalising possibilities for a future chapter.' According to the publication, sets have already begun to be dismantled at the production base on the outskirts of Melbourne. The studio site, which was sold to property redevelopers several years ago but is on a long lease to programme-makers Fremantle Media, is expected to be reused for other productions in the future.

Neighbours legend 'to join Strictly Come Dancing' after soap wraps filming

The countdown for Strictly Come Dancing has officially begun with fans speculating on who will be competing for the Glitterball trophy this year - this year will be the 23rd series of the BBC One dancing competition Popular soap star Stefan Dennis has reportedly signed for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing. The actor, 66, is best known for his role in Neighbours playing six-times married Ramsay Street lothario Paul Robinson since the first episode aired in 1985. But now Neighbours has officially wrapped with the cast filming their last day at Nunawading studios. ‌ This chapter of the iconic Australian soap opera will be brought to a close in December 2025, celebrating over 40 years of entertainment, heart, and history. Amazon had previously saved the soap in 2022 with it returning the following year, but sadly the deal has now come to an end. ‌ The final episode of Neighbours was filmed at Nunawading Studios in Australia on Friday, and will air on Amazon Prime in December, which means Stefan is now free to take to the dancefloor this autumn. ‌ A source told The Sun: ' Stefan is a huge character on the soap and is sure to be a hit with Strictly fans. BBC bosses are confident Stefan will bring in the ratings. He has made no secret of the fact that he would love to star on Strictly and will put his all into the training.' Paul Robinson's biggest storyline was in 2005 for the 20th anniversary when he was shoved from a mezzanine — leading to the 'Who Pushed P.R?' mystery. Cast members have been sharing their memories of the soap which recently turned 40, with Paul Robinson actor Stefan Dennis saying: "I never thought a single show would give me the greatest adventures of my career, spanning 40 years. Without Neighbours I would not have meet the people, been to the places and lived the experiences of a lifetime. Thank you all." ‌ Susan Kennedy actress Jackie Woodburne continued: "It's impossible to measure the gratitude I feel for the gift of 30 years on Neighbours. "To do so I would have to calculate the number of extraordinary cast and crew I have been privileged to work with, count the number of laughs I have shared with them, measure the pride I feel for the diverse, dramatic (and sometimes outrageous!) storytelling we have all been a part of. "We are the best version of 'family'. It has been a wild ride into a happy life. Wouldn't change it for quids!" Whatever Stefan goes on to do next in his TV career we're sure his wife Gail Easdale, 52, and their three children will be bursting with pride. The Mirror has contacted the BBC and Stefan's representative for comment and at the time of publication had not responded.

As this chapter of the Amazon Prime show's story comes to a close, the cast and crew have reflected on four decades of producing the perfect blend of drama and heart-warming community spirit. The final episode of Neighbours is set to air on December 11, and the news will undoubtedly be a devastating blow to fans across the globe who have witnessed the continuing drama be axed three times.
