DRB-HICOM unit adds seven new vehicle carrier prime movers to fleet

New Straits Times13 hours ago
KUALA LUMPUR: DRB-Hicom Auto Solutions Sdn Bhd (DHAS) has expanded its vehicle delivery business with seven new vehicle carrier prime movers.
The seven units of 10-litre MAN prime movers were recently delivered to DHAS, bringing the automotive logistics provider's total number of vehicle carriers to 10.
It also has two motorcycle carriers as part of its fleet.
Each vehicle carrier is able to transport up to seven sedan cars, or five units of four-wheel drive vehicles.
With this addition, total carrying capacity will increase by more than 50 per cent.
DHAS chief executive officer Fawzi Ahmad said the fleet expansion enables the company to shift focus from only inbound activities to more outbound delivery services to dealers' doorstep throughout the transportation cycle.
"With the new carriers, DHAS reduces reliance on out-sourced providers. We are now better able to provide a wider range of in-house services, giving us better control in ensuring the best of service to our customers," he added.
The expanded fleet, which had been deployed immediately, positions DHAS to serve the rapid growth of the Malaysian automotive market, particularly in respect to electric vehicles (EVs).
Fawzi said the company continues to expand operations and meet the rising demand for vehicle transportation services.
"These additional vehicle carriers also help us enhance cost management and improve our operational control.
"These efficiency improvements ultimately benefit our customers in various ways," he said.
He added that DHAS is currently focused on further strengthening market presence, while driving innovation within its operations.
As part of its long-term strategy, the company continuously assesses future requirements, adapting operations to ensure sustainable growth and alignment with customer needs.
As a subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Bhd, enhancements in DHAS' capabilities feed directly into the group's deep-rooted presence throughout the entire automotive industry ecosystem.
This ranges from car manufacturing and assembly, vehicle importation and logistics, distribution and retailing, after-sales service, to second-hand sales as well as car rental and leasing services.
DHAS, established in 2006, provides end-to-end automotive logistics with amongst the largest networks of comprehensive vehicle delivery services to dealerships nationwide.
It operates from well-equipped vehicle yards in Port Klang Free Zone in Port Klang, and Pekan, Pahang, with capacities of 3,800 units and 6,000 units respectively.
In addition to nationwide vehicle distribution, DHAS offers a full suite of logistics services.
This includes the importation of completely built-up vehicles and completely knocked-down kits, forwarding and customs clearance, warehouse management and pre-delivery inspection activities.

Sabah will be included in Ambalat plans: Minister

Published on: Saturday, July 05, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jul 05, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: Mohamad noted that the proposal for joint developmet in the Sulawesi Sea involving Blocks ND6 and ND7 – referred to by Indonesia as 'Ambalat' – is not new, as the area is reported to hold significant natural resources such as oil and gas. JAKARTA: Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin said the proposal for Malaysia and Indonesia to jointly develop economic potential in the Sulawesi Sea area has yet to be finalised. He said several processes must be considered beforehand, especially securing the views and consent of the Sabah Government. Advertisement He added that the existing consultation mechanisms between the Federal Government and the Sabah Government will be fully utilised, including the Action Council for Implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MTPMA63), which is chaired by the Prime Minister, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. 'In any case, the joint development in the Sulawesi Sea remains under consideration and has indeed not yet been finalised,' he said in a Facebook post Friday. Mohamad noted that the proposal for joint developmet in the Sulawesi Sea involving Blocks ND6 and ND7 – referred to by Indonesia as 'Ambalat' – is not new, as the area is reported to hold significant natural resources such as oil and gas. According to him, in 2022, the Prime Minister at the time had directed Petronas to consider conducting a study on the proposed joint development (JD) initiative. Most recently, Mohamad said that the issue concerning Blocks ND6 and ND7 was also raised during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's working visit to Jakarta on June 27. 'This matter was indeed discussed. However, it has not yet been finalised. In fact, the Prime Minister himself stated that the interests of the Sabah region must be taken into account and considered fairly.' Mohamad said Malaysia and Indonesia are still unable to explore the two blocks, as the area remains under dispute in terms of maritime boundaries between the two countries. 'Given the significant economic potential – while the process of finalising maritime boundaries in the Sulawesi Sea between the two countries is still ongoing – some parties have proposed that Malaysia and Indonesia jointly develop this potential.' Mohamad emphasised that the process of finalising the maritime boundary in the Sulawesi Sea is a long-term and complex effort, carried out through a Technical Committee led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The committee comprises various government agencies, including the Sabah State Government, the National Security Council (Sabah), the Sabah Attorney General's Office, the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM), the Sabah Lands and Surveys Department, as well as other relevant technical agencies. Mohamad stressed that the Malaysian Government remains committed to thoroughly examining the matter and reaching a mutual understanding through negotiations based on existing mechanisms. In any development, the country's sovereignty and strategic interests – particularly those involving the state of Sabah – will continue to be safeguarded and defended to the fullest extent, Mohamad said. He stated that the maritime boundary agreement signed with Indonesia in 2023 does not affect Malaysia's territorial rights or sovereignty over the eastern waters of Sabah. He said the Sulawesi Sea Treaty, signed on June 8, 2023 and known as the 2023 Sulawesi Treaty, only covers a portion of the territorial sea off the east coast of Sabah and does not include Malaysia's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). 'The agreement does not cover the area known as Blocks ND6 and ND7, or referred to by Indonesia as 'Ambalat', which lies within Malaysia's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) extending up to 200 nautical miles.' Mohamad also dismissed allegations that the Malaysian Government had compromised Sabah's territorial rights and sovereignty to Indonesia following the signing of the 2023 Sulawesi Treaty. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Anwar's visit to Paris a success, marks revival of partnerships across all sectors, says Macron

Turning to the Malaysian Prime Minister, Macron said 'You have had high-level meetings with the Prime Minister (François Bayrou) and other key officials, delivered an important speech at the Sorbonne (university), engaged with civil society leaders, and met with our business community.' He said the rapprochement between the two nations' economies and shared diversification strategies were essential. Macron was referring to the newly signed project in the critical minerals and rare earths sector with the company Carester, which just opened a plant in Lacq; in transport, with the historic cooperation between Malaysia Airlines and Airbus; and also in the field of energy transition. 'In South-East Asia, I reiterated our support for regional electricity connectivity, including support for civil nuclear energy. 'I must also mention the exchanges between our artists, researchers, academics, and students — all those who bring the France-Malaysia relationship to life. New agreements are in view to continue weaving this human connection between our countries.' Anwar said the collaboration among the private sector was why Government-to-Government arrangements, exchanges with ministers, in exchange of policies should continue at the higher level. 'I think we have benefited immensely from the education, the AI, digital engineering that many of our students have been trained here. We want to further explore. We have now started to get students into Malaysia, French students and tourism also increasing,' he added.
