Proton to launch e.MAS 5 EV in Q4 2025 with five colour options

The Star08-05-2025
SERDANG: Proton Holdings Bhd's wholly owned subsidiary, Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (Pro-Net), is set to launch its newest electric vehicle (EV) model, the e.MAS 5, in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Pro-Net chief branding officer Salawati Mohd Yusoff said the latest EV is in a different segment than its first model, the e.MAS 7.
The e.MAS 7 is a compact sport utility vehicle (C-SUV), while the e.MAS 5 falls under the B-segment hatchback category.
"In terms of size, the e.MAS 5 is much more compact than the e.MAS7... and we will be offering five different colour options for this model.
"In terms of pricing, we cannot reveal it just yet, but our e.MAS models are generally priced above RM100,000.
"We hope to position the price of the newest EV slightly better and more affordable," she told Bernama at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 here on Thursday (May 8).
Salawati added that the e.MAS will be available in two variants - the Prime model, with a range of 345km, and the Premium variant, offering a range of up to 410km.
She said the company is confident that its latest EV will be well-received, given the encouraging response to the e.MAS 7 as Malaysians have shown growing interest and openness towards switching to EVs.
To date, a total of 2,700 units of the e.MAS 7 have been sold since its launch in December 2024, she said.
Held for the third consecutive year, MAS 2025 featured 200 exhibitors and more than 500 vehicles. – Bernama

Ministry to monitor IC misuse after RON95 price adjustment

SETIA ALAM: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will issue reminders to petrol stations to prevent the misuse of Malaysian identity cards for the upcoming RON95 fuel price adjustment. Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the ministry will intensify monitoring efforts to prevent leakages and misuse by foreign-registered vehicles using Malaysian ICs. "Previously, petrol stations were prohibited from selling RON95 to vehicles with foreign registration plates. "If local ICs are used (after the fuel price adjustment), we will remind petrol station operators to stay vigilant, and we may need to monitor closely to ensure these ICs are not misused repeatedly," she said at the closing ceremony of the TikTok Shop Summit today. Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced several key initiatives as a gesture of appreciation from the government to the people. Among these initiatives are a one-off RM100 cash aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme, the postponement of toll rate hikes for 10 highways, and a lower subsidised RON95 petrol price at RM1.99 per litre. On June 16, Anwar said the government would proceed with the RON95 fuel subsidy rationalisation, as it is crucial for the country. Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said there was no issue of a RON95 price increase affecting the majority of Malaysians. On June 26, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government would move ahead with its plan to implement targeted subsidies for RON95 petrol this year. However, the rollout would be done in phases to ensure the most effective and least disruptive mechanism is adopted.

MOF: No application needed for RM100 Sara aid, beware of scam messages

KUALA LUMPUR (July 24): The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has stated that no application is required for the 'Sumbangan Asas Rahmah' (Sara) assistance and emphasised that the circulating message about 'Sara for all' assistance is false. The MOF said the RM100 Sara assistance announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday will be automatically credited to the MyKad of all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above. 'Be cautious and do not be easily deceived by such false messages on social media. If unsure, don't click – avoid becoming a victim of scams!' the ministry said on its Instagram page. The Sara assistance can be spent at selected stores from Aug 31 until Dec 31, 2025. Users are advised to follow the official MOF channels for more information regarding the assistance. – Bernama

'Turun Anwar' Rally Proves Opposition Running Out Of Ideas

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- The 'Turun Anwar' rally this Saturday is the culmination of Perikatan Nasional (PN)'s mental block to present ideas as an alternative to the alleged accusation that the "government has failed to manage the economy". Political Secretary to Finance Minister Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said current figures and reports showed that the country's economy is recovering and growing consistently, thus burying their baseless claims. "Growth, inflation, unemployment rates, investment volumes are being demonised because of hatred and greed. "This is clear evidence of how they have failed to argue and propose alternatives to the various good policies that we have translated," said the Angkatan Muda Keadlilan (AMK) chief in a tweet on X today. He said while the country's leaders are working hard to develop the country, the opposition has chosen the path of fighting, and even to this day they have failed to present a candidate to replace Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. However, Muhammad Kamil said the MADANI government upholds freedom, especially to assemble peacefully, while informing that the prime minister has given assurances that there will be no intimidation from the authorities. "However, demonstrating just to hate Anwar Ibrahim physically shows how weak, shallow and inept their politics are in the face of our agility in translating the wishes and desires of the people now," said Kamil. -- BERNAMA
