Giants' two Super Bowl teams ranked as the worst of the 21st century

USA Today13 hours ago
Where do the New York Giants' Super Bowl XLII and XLVI teams rank among the 25 teams that have won the big game since 2000?
24th and 25th, that's where. In a recent listing from Bleacher Report, the Giants' two upset victories over Tom Brady and Bill Belichick's New England Patriots don't measure up to the rest of this centuries' other NFL championships.
25. 2011 New York Giants
Pros: Behind a legendary pass rush, they dethroned the Patriots for the second time in a four-year span.
Cons: They are the only team on this list with just nine regular-season wins and a negative scoring margin (minus-6). Despite that pass rush, only the 2018 Patriots gave up more yards per play (5.62), and Jason Pierre-Paul was their only first-team All-Pro.
24. 2007 New York Giants
Pros: They slayed the then-18-0 Patriots in one of the biggest upsets in NFL history.
Cons: They were only one win better than the 2011 team at 10-6, and their plus-22 regular-season scoring margin ranks second-last among the 25 teams on this list. They were also a horrendous 1-5 against teams with winning records, and they outscored their four playoff opponents by just 20 total points. They had just one Pro Bowler (Osi Umenyiora) and no first-team All-Pros.
It's hard to argue with some of the cons here. The Giants were not dominant in the regular season in either year, making the Super Bowl behind two incredible postseason runs.
But...they played just one of those eight postseason games at home, which was omitted from these rankings. Among the victories were wins in Dallas, Green Bay and San Francisco. No cred for any of those?

Steelers' Terry Bradshaw Cracks Top 15 Best NFL Quarterbacks Ever

Steelers' Terry Bradshaw Cracks Top 15 Best NFL Quarterbacks Ever originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Before Terry Bradshaw (along with a few others) joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in the early 1970s, the franchise was a forgotten one, with zero success in the league during its history. Advertisement That all changed beginning in 1970 when Bradshaw was selected No. 1 overall by the Steelers. Bradshaw went on an incredible run to help put the Steelers on the map. That was continued in the 2000s by Ben Roethlisberger. Now, both appear on CBS Sports' list of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. 18. Ben Roethlisberger "'Big Ben' started his career by going 13-0 as Pittsburgh's starter during his rookie season, the best mark ever by a rookie quarterback. Roethlisberger followed that up a year later by becoming the youngest quarterback to win the Super Bowl as the Steelers became the first six-seed to win it all. Three years later, Roethlisberger capped off one of the greatest Super Bowls of all time by completing one of the most clutch passes in NFL history when he hit Santonio Holmes for the game-winning score. Advertisement "Roethlisberger was named to six Pro Bowls and is fifth all-time in career passing yards and eighth in career touchdown passes. He's the only player in history with three games with at least 500 passing yards. He had back-to-back games with six touchdown passes back in 2014." While Roethlisberger cracks the top 20, Bradshaw is just a bit higher and breaks into the top 15 at No. 13. 13. Terry Bradshaw "Believe it or not, Bradshaw is the only Steelers player who has won league MVP, doing so in 1978. Bradshaw also won the first of two consecutive Super Bowl MVP awards that season while becoming the first (and only) QB to win back-to-back Super Bowls twice. In Super Bowl XIII (played at the end of the '78 season), Bradshaw threw for then-Super Bowl records 318 yards and four touchdowns in Pittsburgh's 35-31 win over the Cowboys in the first Super Bowl played between two franchises that had already won multiple Super Bowls. Advertisement "In four Super Bowls, Bradshaw threw nine touchdowns against just four interceptions. He threw the game-winning score three times."
