UPDATED schoolboy First XV rugby rankings after thrilling Paarl derby
Any attempt at ranking South Africa's First XV rugby schools is guaranteed to upset as many readers as it will please.
The simple fact of the matter is that there is NO possible way of accurately determining a definitive list.
Many lists are to be found floating around the internet – none of which are in fact 'official'.
While it's true that thanks to an increase in the number of schoolboy rugby festivals around the country more schools are playing schools they previously wouldn't have faced, no school plays every other school both home and away during the season.
Hence, every list should be taken with a pinch of salt and is subjective at best.

Emphatic win over Black Ferns XV confirms Bok Women on track for World Cup
Springbok Women's performance coach Swys de Bruin feels Saturday's emphatic 41-24 victory over the Black Ferns XV was proof that they have got their combinations and spine right, with the Rugby World Cup in England 18 days away as of Monday. The South African women's rugby team overturned the 34-26 defeat from last weekend, outscoring the victors by seven tries to four in a power-packed performance at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. 'I think we are now close to where we wanted to be a few weeks out from the Rugby World Cup,' said De Bruin, after the match. 'The team really played well and executed the tweaks we made very well, and that delivered not only a winning result, but also a boost of confidence to the squad and management. We worked hard to get to this point, and I can honestly say this was one of the best performances we had since I joined the squad just over a year ago.' De Bruin said the players took the responsibility to change last weekend's result upon themselves and made a mental switch for this weekend's game.

When will Springboks name team to face Wallabies?
After a couple of days off, the Springboks regrouped on Sunday to begin preparing for the back-to-back Test matches against the Wallabies in Johannesburg on Saturday 16 August and Cape Town on 23 August to start the Rugby Championship. There will be great excitement and anticipation for the first team announcement considering that it will provide some genuine insight into the thinking of Rassie Erasmus after plenty of experimenting with selection during the July internationals. Especially after seeing the Wallabies' competitive performances against the British & Irish Lions, Erasmus will surely be planning to bring a number of first-choice players and combinations into the mix for the first Test against Australia. It's expected that the first Springbok team of the Rugby Championship will be named on Tuesday, 12 August, with the exact time still to be confirmed. A recent training camp featured a series of gym and field training sessions, as well as boardroom sessions, and Erasmus said they will delve deeper into the opposition from this week. 'We have laid a good foundation, and next week we will zone more into what we expect from Australia and start developing plans to counter what we expect from them,' he said. 'They showed against the British & Irish Lions what they are capable of, so we need to be ready mentally and physically for what they will throw at us in South Africa.' The matches against Australia will be followed by successive Tests against the All Blacks in Auckland and Wellington (on 6 and 13 September) and Los Pumas in Durban and London (on 27 September and 4 October). 'We had an intense week of conditioning to get the players ready for what will undoubtedly be a challenging Rugby Championship campaign against some of the top teams in the world,' Erasmus added. 'So we are pleased with the strides made and the mind-shift the players made for what will be a completely different contest against Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina. 'We identified a few key areas of our game that we felt we needed to improve on after the Incoming Series, and we incorporated those areas into our training and conditioning blocks this week. 'The teams we will face in the next few months will ask different questions and pose different challenges, so it was important for the group to align on what to expect in the next few weeks, so this camp was vital in ensuring that we prepare adequately for what lies ahead.' Pieter Coetzé adds second silver to gold as he wraps up World Aquatics Champs in style
Pieter Coetzé grabbed silver in the 50m backstroke at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore on Sunday. SA finished in eleventh on the swimming medals table with that result on the final day of competition. Image: World Aquatics Pieter Coetzé equalled Roland Schoeman's record for claiming three medals at a long-course world championship, wrapping up his World Aquatics Championships campaign in Singapore with a surprise 50m silver on Sunday, to go with his earlier 100m gold and 200m silver. The achievement was made more remarkable by the fact that Coetzé does not specifically train for the 50m race. The 21-year-old became the only man to reach the podium in all three backstroke events at the championships, heralding his arrival as an Olympic medal hopeful in multiple events. His performances will only fan expectations of a return to glory for South African swimmers at the LA Games — something that had seemed unlikely in the build-up to the showpiece. Next Stay Close ✕ Coetzé lined up for the 50m final as the third-fastest qualifier behind two Russians — world record-holder Kliment Kolesnikov and Pavel Samusenko — after setting an African record in Saturday's semi-final. He went even quicker in the final, powering across the pool in another continental record time of 24.17 seconds to share the silver with Samusenko, who touched in exactly the same time. Kolesnikov took gold in a championship record of 23.68 seconds. 'I don't think I've ever tied in a final at this level, so it's pretty cool,' said a thrilled Coetzé afterwards. 'I'm very happy. I don't really train for the 50, I train for the 200, so to be able to go down so far and win a medal in the 50 is amazing,' he added. 'Kliment went very fast. That's an extremely fast time, so it was an honour to be in that race and hopefully I can push myself and also get below 24 seconds.'
