Agriculture Ministry will work on the theme of 'One Nation-One Agriculture-One Team': Shivraj Singh Chouhan
New Delhi [India], May 18 (ANI): Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Sunday participated in the farmers' Convention Krishi Samvaad organised under the 'Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and addressed the gathering, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare said in a release.
During this, Chauhan and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis felicitated progressive farmers who were doing excellent work in the agriculture sector and extended their best wishes.
On this occasion, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that today, we are announcing 'One Nation, One Agriculture and One Team' from Maharashtra. Today, the central and State Governments, the Chief Minister, the Agriculture Minister, MPs, MLAs, senior scientists, and the entire staff of the Agriculture Department are present here.
The Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry, State Agriculture Ministry, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Krishi Vigyan Kendra and all agricultural institutes should work together as a team.
Shivraj Singh said that if all the institutions are connected, targets are set, and roadmaps are made, then miracles can be made in agriculture. Shivraj Singh said that Maharashtra, the holy land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is amazing. The farmers here are hardworking and progressive; they have infinite possibilities.
While praising the Chief Minister, Union Minister Shivraj Singh said that he is constantly trying to transform the agricultural landscape and the fate of the farmers. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, our farmers should become self-reliant, their income should increase, and for this, we all will work together as a team, he added.
Another big announcement was made by Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who said that we are going to set up a national-level lab in Pune under the Clean Plant Program. This laboratory will be set up in Pune to conduct research on the original species of plants. Union Agriculture Minister announced this while interacting with the farmers of Vidarbha in the Krishi Samvad program organised under the Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan in Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Nagpur.
Emphasising increasing agricultural production, Shivraj Singh said that the Clean Plant Program is being run to ensure pure and disease-free nurseries. To increase production, farmers should understand the need for good quality seeds, soil testing and reduction in production costs.
During the event, Chouhan informed that ICAR has 113 institutes across the country, 11 of which are in Maharashtra. He announced that a meeting with heads of all ICAR institutes would be held at the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS & LUP) in Nagpur to chart the course for agricultural development in Maharashtra. The government is committed to bridging the gap between laboratories and farmlands.
With 16,000 agricultural scientists under ICAR, scientists will visit villages as a team along with agricultural extension officers to educate farmers about new seed varieties and innovative farming practices. Chouhan further stated that during the 15-day campaign from May 29 to June 12, agricultural scientists will visit villages to guide farmers on sustainable farming practices and plan for the Kharif season.
On this occasion, Shivraj Singh said that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dedicated to taking the country forward. PM Modi's goal is to build a glorious, powerful, prosperous, rich and developed India.
Chouhan, along with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, inaugurated the National Soil Spectral Library, which includes data on soil pH Value, density, and elemental composition collected using hyperspectral sensor technology by NBSS & LUP. With this inauguration, Maharashtra became the first state to have a soil map.
Additionally, Chouhan launched an AI-based Smart Trap technology for managing the pink bollworm pest affecting cotton crops. This technology will alert farmers about pest infestations in their crops.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis provided details about the Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project, which will enhance irrigation capacity in Vidarbha. He clarified that the state government will fully cooperate with the inclusive policy outlined by Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the entire nation.
State Agriculture Minister Adv. Manikrao Kokate noted that labour shortages for cotton picking have become a challenge. Research and development are underway for battery-operated small tractors, and if successful, the results will be presented to the Agriculture Ministry.
During the event, farmers from the Nagpur division excelling in natural farming, organic farming, and farmer-producer organisations were felicitated by the Union Agriculture Minister and the Chief Minister. The program saw a large attendance of farmers and agricultural officers from the Nagpur division. (ANI)

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman , currently on an official visit to Spain, Portugal, and Brazil, delivered a strong pitch for mobilising private capital for sustainable development at the International Business Forum Leadership Summit titled "From FFD4 Outcome to Implementation: Unlocking the Potential of Private Capital for Sustainable Development" in Seville, Spain. Addressing global leaders and investors, Sitharaman highlighted that while private investment has shown encouraging growth in recent years, thanks to a rise in innovative financial instruments and traditional sources, much more needs to be done. In a social media post, the minister said, "Private capital mobilisation remains significantly below what is required, with low and middle-income countries receiving a disproportionately small share. This underscores the urgent need for targeted efforts to overcome investment barriers and better align financial flows with development priorities." Highlighting India's own journey, Sitharaman stressed the importance of addressing perceived investment risks in emerging markets . India, she noted, has taken significant steps to overcome these challenges. Sitharaman stated, "India has addressed this challenge by establishing independent regulators, implementing transparent bidding processes, standardising contracts, and improving the ease of doing business . These reforms have significantly enhanced investor confidence and reduced transaction costs." Live Events The Finance Minister also highlighted the role of strong domestic financial systems. India has focused on strengthening its banking sector and deepening capital markets to support large-scale financing in infrastructure and industry. She said India's regulatory frameworks now better balance investor protection with innovation and flexibility, creating an enabling environment for long-term investment. One of the standout examples presented by Sitharaman was India's transformation in the renewable energy sector. From just 2.8 GW of solar energy installed in 2014, India has expanded its capacity to over 110 GW. This model attracted institutional investors, including pension and sovereign wealth funds." On the sidelines of the FFD4 Summit, Sitharaman also held bilateral meetings with various global leaders. Both ministers discussed cooperation in defence, education, technology, and agriculture. MoEF expert panel returns Polavaram-Banakacherla link proposal; Andhra Pradesh directed to revise plan after Telangana concerns
HYDERABAD: In a big relief to Telangana and a setback for the Andhra Pradesh govt on the Polavaram-Banakacherla link project (PBLP), the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change's (MoEFCC) expert appraisal committee (EAC) has returned the proposal of the link project to the neighbouring state. The Andhra Pradesh govt has sought approval of the terms of reference (TOR) for conducting an environmental impact assessment and also public hearing for PBLP. With the setback, the Andhra Pradesh govt has to send the proposals afresh to the MoEFCC (river valley and hydroelectric projects) after revising them as per the EAC recommendations. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy and irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy had met Union minister of jal shakti CR Patil a few days ago and put for the state's objections. The state govt also conducted an all-party meeting on the Banakacherla issue. The EAC committee at its 33rd meeting discussed the proposal on June 17 and the minutes of the meeting were released on Monday. The members of the committee opined that the proposed scheme aims to divert floodwaters from the Godavari basin (Polavaram Dam) to the water-deficit basins within the state. "The EAC further observed that environmental clearance (EC) for the Indira Sagar Polavaram multipurpose project on the Godavari River, located at Polavaram in AP, was granted by the ministry on Jan 25 2005. However, due to submergence-related issues in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, the matter remains sub-judice," the committee members said. The committee also recommended that the project proponent should comprehensively assess the availability of floodwaters in consultation with the Central Water Commission (CWC). "The EAC also said that several representations have been received via email, alleging that the proposed scheme may be in violation of the Godavari Tribunal Award, 1980. In view of this, it is imperative that the project proponent should approach CWC for examining the inter-state issues and granting necessary clearance/permission before submitting the proposal for framing the TOR for conducting the EIA study," the EAC meeting opined.

US-India trade deal being finalised, will be announced soon, says White House
A trade deal between India and the United States is close to being finalised and will be announced soon, ANI quoted White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as having said on Monday. The statement came days before the 90-day suspension of tariffs announced by United States President Donald Trump is set to end on July 9. 'I just spoke to our secretary of commerce about it [India-US trade deal],' Leavitt said during a press briefing. 'He was in the Oval office with the president. They are finalising these agreements.' She added that an announcement from Trump and his trade team is expected 'very soon'. Trump's so-called reciprocal tariffs imposed on several countries, including a 26% 'discounted' levy on India, took effect on April 9. Hours later, however, Trump had reduced the rates on imports from most countries to 10% for 90 days to provide time for trade negotiations. The US president had repeatedly said he intended to impose a reciprocal tax on India, among others, citing high tariffs the countries impose on foreign goods. The tariffs had led to concerns of a broader trade war that could disrupt the global economy and trigger recession. The Indian government has said that it is in talks with Washington to finalise a bilateral trade agreement between September and November. An Indian team led by Union Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal had visited the US in May to negotiate a trade agreement. Following this, a US team of negotiators was in India for a week earlier this month. On Friday, Trump had said that New Delhi could sign a ' very big ' trade deal with Washington. Leavitt on Monday called India a ' very strategic ally ' of the US in the Indo-Pacific region. Responding to a question about China's influence in the area, Leavitt said: 'India remains a very strategic ally in the Asia Pacific and the President [Donald Trump] has a very good relationship with Prime Minister [Narendra] Modi and he will continue to have that.' 'Would love a big trade pact with US' Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, reacting to Trump's statement on the announcement of the bilateral trade agreement, said on Monday that India would 'love to have an agreement, a big, good, beautiful one', reported The Indian Express. 'At the junction we are in, and given our growth goals and ambition to be Viksit Bharat by 2047, the sooner we have such agreements with strong economies, the better they will serve us,' she told the newspaper. Sitharaman added that agriculture and dairy have been among the 'very big red lines', where a high degree of caution has been exercised, during the talks with the US.
