'I thought sister was joking when she named baby after fish – but she's serious'
It's usually taboo to slate parents for their choice of baby names, but some are so outlandish it's hard not to comment. Parents have the freedom to pick any name that tickles their fancy for their newborns. Whether it's a traditional name or something more avant-garde, there's no definitive right or wrong.
However, choosing an extremely odd name might attract some raised eyebrows and negative feedback. One expectant mother left her sister utterly astonished with her choice of name for her soon-to-arrive son, as the name was so extraordinary she initially thought it was a wind-up.
Taking to Reddit, the woman explained how her sister has had a lifelong passion for marine life and had always dreamed of giving her offspring an ocean-inspired name.
While there are many distinctive sea-related names like Ocean, Marina, Coral, and Finn, this mum-to-be has decided to name her boy after a fish – the sea bass, to be precise.
The shocked sister explained: "She said she settled on the name 'Seabass', yes, the fish. I am not making this up, I truly wish I was. She's always been a playful person so I truly thought she was joking but she said she really loved it."
With seven months of pregnancy behind her, the future mother has already invested in personalised name signs and a monogrammed blanket emblazoned with 'Seabass', showing she's dead serious about this quirky choice.
The soon-to-be aunt shared her concerns, saying: "I told her that I really don't think this is a good choice, tried to give her other nature or ocean names, and even asked if she could use the name Sebastian."
However, she was met with resistance. Her sister added: "She wasn't having it and said 'This name feels right for him'. I know he's not my child, and so I'm trying to respect her choice."
The sibling acknowledged the baby isn't hers, so she's trying to respect her sister's decision.
However, online commenters were equally stunned by the mother's unusual choice of name for her son. Many agreed that Seabass could be a cute nickname for someone named Sebastian, but found it odd as a given name.
One commenter expressed disbelief: "Oh, good grief. We know a little guy called Sebastian who gets called Seabass by his family, but it's not like it's his actual name!"
Another was at a loss for words: "I actually can't think of a way to respond to this in a nice way... I am genuinely flabbergasted."
However, the poster went on to edit her post with some good news, saying: "FINAL UPDATE: She went with Sebastian!! Thank God! I was so so worried. But his nickname is Seabass haha!"

Two new racers coming to Mario Kart World hints Donkey Kong credits
Fans have noticed the credits for Mario Kart World feature two Donkey Kong actors that aren't in the game yet, as hopes raise for a Nintendo Direct annoucement. Now that Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are out it's not entirely clear where the Switch 2 goes from here. Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 are major new releases but they're both cross-gen Switch 1 games. Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment and Kirby Air Riders have been announced but they're clearly both lower tier releases. Not only is it unclear what the next big Switch 2 game will be but it's also a mystery as to how Nintendo will treat Mario Kart World going forward. Clearly it will get DLC at some point, but will it work the same as Mario Kart 8 or, as new rumours suggest, will it be treated more like a live service game, with regular updates used to promote other Nintendo games. Nintendo, as ever, has said nothing, with no hint at any DLC at all. However, right from day one, players noticed that although even the most obscure character in the game has at least three costumes, Donkey Kong and Pauline only have two – their default and one other. This seems very peculiar given how prominent Bananza has made the pair, but it's so suspicious that many believe it's an indication that more will be released in order to promote Bananza. But if that's the case, why hasn't it happened yet? *** WARNING: Massive Donkey Kong Bananza spoilers beyond this point. Do not read on unless you've already beaten the game *** Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. There is no current answer as to why Nintendo hasn't announced new costumes for Donkey Kong and Pauline, but if they are going to do it then perhaps it will happen during the rumoured Nintendo Direct this month. But while the costume situation remains a mystery, fans have discovered something in the credits of the game which seem to point at a different Bananza-related addition. Eagle-eyed fans on Reddit noticed that the voice actors for main villain Void Kong and (this is the big spoiler!) King K. Rool are also credited in Mario Kart World. None of the Mario Kart World credits indicate what roles any of the actors play but all of the existing characters in the game already seem to be accounted for, so it's a mystery as to who Yuu Hayashi and Tsuguo Mogami are, or will be, voicing. More Trending That doesn't guarantee it'll be Void Kong and King K. Rool but it is hard to imagine this is all a coincidence and they're voicing two other completely different characters, that just don't happen to have been announced yet. What's much harder to guess at is whether there might be other characters from Bananza coming to Mario Kart World and whether other characters will be added as they get new games. Diddy Kong (who was already in Mario Kart 8), Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong are also in Bananza but they're all nominally part of the Super Mario universe. So what happens when Metroid Prime 4 comes out? Will Nintendo add Samus Aran to Mario Kart World at that point? It's impossible to say, but if there's not some kind of annoucement at the next Nintendo Direct, whenever that might be, it would now be more surprising than if there is. Battlefield 6 trailer countdown, release time and everything we know so far
It's official – we're getting our first look at Battlefield 6 this week with the release of the game's debut trailer. Find out when you can watch the Battlefield 6 trailer right here The much-anticipated return of the Battlefield series is on the horizon, with fans eagerly awaiting the first official trailer for this year's game, set to be unveiled on Tuesday, July 24. Battlefield enthusiasts are on tenterhooks for the Battlefield 6 trailer, which carries the weight of expectation following the disappointment of 2021's Battlefield 2042 – a title that failed to impress and marked the last face-off between Battlefield and Call of Duty. The prospect of Black Ops 7 clashing with Battlefield 6 promises to stir up some nostalgic excitement in the gaming community this year. Regrettably, the series has been on a downward trajectory, with recent instalments prior to Battlefield 2042 garnering lukewarm to poor critiques on Metacritic. On a personal note, I reckon Battlefield 3 was the last truly solid entry, and I've given up hoping for a revival of Bad Company, especially since we haven't seen a new addition since Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in 2010. While concrete details around Battlefield 6 are scarce, an open beta has been confirmed by the game's official Twitter feed, teasing that "Starting at Open Beta players can choose official playlists with Signature Weapons locked to class, or not". In a bold move, Battlefield Labs – the closed testing ground for Battlefield 6 – broke away from the traditional locked weapons system, which ensures players stick to their roles, opting instead for a more anarchic approach where any class can wield any weapon they fancy. In a bid to satisfy traditionalists, it launched Signature Weapons and traits, with a Reddit post from May providing more insight. Essentially, there are passive, class-specific traits, while certain classes will gain a class perk when using a weapon typically associated with that class – though anyone can use it. For instance, a Recon class player wielding a sniper rifle will be able to hold their breath (and stabilise their aim) for longer than an Assault class player using the same rifle. Despite players expressing their disapproval in the comments, it appears this overhauled class system will feature in the Battlefield 6 open beta. As for the open beta's launch date, the EA App disclosed the build date as Monday, August 4 (via Reddit), so we might see it go live sometime in August. We'll undoubtedly learn more tomorrow following (or during) the official Battlefield 6 trailer release, and here's precisely when that happens. Battlefield 6 trailer countdown and release time The Battlefield 6 trailer is set to drop on Thursday, July 24, as confirmed by the game's Twitter account.. If you head over to the YouTube channel, the start time is scheduled for 7.57am PDT / 10.57am EDT / 3.57pm BST, but we've got the Battlefield 6 trailer countdown above for you to check how much time remains before it goes live in your area. We've embedded the YouTube video below, which should go live when the Battlefield 6 trailer is released on Thursday, July 24. The release date for Battlefield 6 may be revealed in the upcoming trailer, along with details about the open beta. However, according to rumours and leaks, the game is slated for an October 10, 2025 launch. This information comes from the 1BF Telegram Group (via Reddit), which mines data from Battlefield Labs for tantalising tidbits. Dataminer @temporyal has also contributed to the speculation, suggesting that while Battlefield 6 won't be free-to-play, it will feature a free-to-play battle royale mode - because we clearly don't have enough of those games around, do we?

Classic film considered 'coolest of all time' is now streaming for free
Fans who are lovers of the best classic movies are in for a treat as a film considered one of the coolest ever made is now streaming for free. Starring iconic Hollywood actors Paul Newman and Robert Redford, 1969 flick Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is currently available to watch at no cost on BBC iPlayer. The top-grossing film of its year, the Western buddy movie went on to be nominated for seven Oscars, including best picture and director, winning four. There is literally a Reddit thread titled 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid – coolest film ever?' where fans discussed its appeal, so don't take it just from me. Helmed by George Roy Hill (who also directed Newman and Redford in 1973's The Sting) and written by Academy Award winner William Goldman, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid follows the titular members of the outlaw Hole-in-the-Wall gang in 1899 Wyoming. They flee to Bolivia after a train robbery gone wrong with Sundance (Redford)'s lover Etta Place (Katharine Ross), attempting to go straight for the first time after struggling to rob banks in Spanish – but a posse is in hot pursuit. 'It's a classic, and I don't use that term lightly,' shared John W in an audience review on Rotten Tomatoes, while Jamie X posted: 'A beautiful film in every way. The cinematography, characters, story and soundtrack, are all on another level. I simply can't recommend enough.' 'This western movie had it all. Fast action, comedy, whimsical, intense [sic.] intrigue and fast gun play with two of the most dynamic male actors of their time,' added Edward B. Redford, 88, largely retired from acting in 2018, having also appeared in the likes of The Great Gatsby, All the President's Men and Out of Africa, as well as a stint in Marvel Cinematic Universe as Alexander Pierce. He was nominated for best actor and best director twice each at the Academy Awards, winning for his filmmaking in 1980 for Ordinary People, his directorial debut. Newman died in September 2008 aged 83 after a career that saw him nominated for 10 acting Oscars, winning best actor for The Colour of Money in 1987. He also starred in movies including Cool Hand Luke, The Hustler, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Road to Perdition. 'Everything I wanted in a movie is here,' enthused another fan, while Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was also praised as 'the ultimate buddy movie' and a 'classic Western that I just never get tired of watching'. 'Redford and Newman at it again. If you don't love Butch and Sundance, then you don't love cinema,' insisted another lover of the movie. Many cinema fans have intense nostalgia around the film as well, remembering first watching it upon its release decades ago. 'One of the best, a film from my childhood I've had the pleasure of discovering again as an adult,' shared Robin Sattahip on Google, while Ray Moore shared: 'I watched this wonderful movie the week it was released and fell in Love with K. Ross as well with R.R. and Paul whom [sic.] I was already a fan. I have seen it so many times.' Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid appears in multiple AFI lists, including ranking 73rd in the institute's 10th anniversary edition of their 100 Years… 100 Movies list of greatest American films. More Trending Based on real-life figures in the Old West, the film is famous too for its anachronistic use of the very 1960s Burt Bacharach and Hal David song Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head. It's also preserved by the Library of Congress in the United States National Film Registry by for its 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant' status. Other stone-cold classic films currently available to watch on iPlayer include The Shining, Don't Look Now and John Wayne classic Western The Searchers. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is streaming for free in the UK on BBC iPlayer now. Got a story?
