GTA 6 will be out this time next year - or at least that's the plan

Metro27-05-2025
The delay for GTA 6 may have contributed to Avengers: Doomsday switching dates, although plenty of fans don't think the game will meet its May launch date.
It was always an act of optimism to expect GTA 6 to launch this year, despite Take-Two's assurances it would meet the initial autumn 2025 release window.
As such, news of GTA 6's delay was disappointing but not all that surprising. What was surprising, though, was that Rockstar Games and Take-Two immediately committed to an exact release date.
Knowing precisely when it'll launch should make the wait a little easier, especially as by this time next year it'll already be out… hopefully.
GTA 6 is scheduled to release on May 26, 2026. It being a Tuesday isn't ideal for anyone who has to go to work, instead of enjoying the game all day, but now that we have that date, it's worth booking your time off now.
It's obviously going to be a massive game, so seven straight days of playtime will ensure you don't fall behind in the conversations that will undoubtedly dominate online circles.
While Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has tried to downplay the possibility, it's entirely possible GTA 6 will be delayed a second time, especially since previous Rockstar games, like Red Dead Redemption 2, saw multiple delays as well.
Some fans are very much preparing themselves for more upset. In a thread on the GTA subreddit, positing how fans would react to a second delay, Redditor HizzOVizzA admits they are expecting it to happen, with more than a handful agreeing.
'My advice to you younger folks. Just don't even think about it. I obsessed over GTA 5 for the two years in between the release date and the launch. Same with Red Dead,' says PapasGotABrandNewNag, adding, 'They both exceeded my expectations. It will be worth the wait.'
Rouni_99 also suspects, 'We only got the date so we can feel little bit better, since the game is so highly anticipated. I'd be more surprised if the game actually releases in May rather than faces another, shorter delay.'
It's not just fans; other publishers suspect GTA 6 will be delayed again, with a recent report alleging that the game's new release date sparked 'emergency meetings' among companies that planned to launch new games in 2026.
Given how monumental the launch of a new GTA game is in the world of entertainment as a whole, it's likely GTA 6's release date has had a ripple effect on more than just the games industry.
You just have to look at GTA 6's second trailer. When it dropped, it reportedly saw more views in 24 hours than any movie trailer ever made. The previous record holder? Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine. More Trending
There are even suspicions that GTA 6's delay contributed to the delay of 2026's big Marvel crossover movie Avengers: Doomsday, which was initially meant to hit cinemas on May 1.
According to Deadline, Disney has pushed the movie back to December 18, with the sequel Avengers: Secret Wars also delayed from May 7, 2027, to December 17.
No official reason was given, but Disney will certainly be aware of GTA 6's release date and they'll know that even the Avengers isn't as big as a new Rockstar game.
After all, if everyone's at home playing the game, that's less people going to the cinema.

Eyes of Wakanda Season 1 Review – A realm of possibilities, but little time to develop them

Season 1 Episode Guide Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3 Episode 4 -| Review Score – 3.5/5 In recent years, Marvel have given birth to a series of animated projects, such as What If…? and X-Men '97, creating a new pool of possibilities and stories. The latest one of this batch is Eyes of Wakanda, created by Todd Harris, a storyboard artist for the company. And it feels exactly like that: a breath of fresh air filled with possibilities. The show follows special warriors responsible for secret missions rescuing Wakandan artifacts from outside their nation. While the first episode explains this concept, the rest center almost exclusively on the hunt for these objects. What makes the episodes even more interesting is that all of them happen in different periods. Eyes of Wakanda's first advantage is that it can be part of the MCU, but also a standalone project. The necessity of every Marvel movie having to be connected and address continuity has been a constant critique of fans for a few years now. So, it's great getting to watch something without worrying about how it relates to past events or how it'll change the future of the universe. We can see how this change is important to fans because Fantastic Four: First Steps is being praised for the same reason. Let's hope this indicates that Marvel is understanding what viewers want to see. As each Eyes of Wakanda episode focuses on a different person and artifact, the characters aren't all that interesting. But that isn't what the show is about. It's much more about what being a War Dog means and the sacrifices they make for their country, and it excels at that. Even though you hardly care about B'kai, it's hard not to relate to his struggle at the end of episode 2. After being away from Wakanda for so long, the place he longed to return to, he feels like an immigrant. As a War Dog, he can't see any place as his home anymore. Nonetheless, there's one character who steals the scene with her charisma and skills. She's Jorani, the Iron Fist. Episode 3 has an incredible introduction to the character's myth, and Jorani easily proves she's worthy of the mantle. The fight scenes in episode 3 surpass all expectations. They're fluid, intense, smart, and, most of all, fun. It features a fight in an artifact room, which will constantly keep you with the silliest smile on your face. The characters use all kinds of weapons to get an upper hand, and I just wish it could have gone on for longer. The last episode is the only one that's significantly weaker, as it lacks stakes and feels somewhat rushed. Still, it's nice how it connects the sacrifices the War Dogs make to an important character growth instead of something bad or sad as usual. But the series's biggest problem is its length. It's easy to imagine how it could have had way more episodes featuring recurring characters and more artifacts. However, when you're getting more excited about the plot, it ends abruptly. It does tie its story nicely, but it lacks the impact that only a longer length could give it. You don't have enough time to get attached to the characters or the beautiful visuals of Wakanda. Characters, such as B'kai, could easily be in two or more episode arcs, which would also make them deeper and more likable. Eyes of Wakanda proves in only 4 episodes that it has the potential to be much more and grow into something even better. But don't let that take you away from the great story it tells in that short time.

Games Inbox: What year will PS6 be released?

The Monday letters page has concerns about how Nintendo has handled the Switch 2 so far, as one reader thinks GTA 6 will be in the firing line from more than just politicians. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@ Time flies Now that we're starting to get leaked specs for the PlayStation 6, and there's a lot more talk about a portable version, the idea that it's going to be released in 2027 or 2028 seems more and more likely. The next gen Xbox is rumoured for 2027 so I'm sure Sony won't want to be a year behind, because they'll remember what happened to the PlayStation 3 when they did that. So that means some kind of official annoucement next year or maybe even at the end of the year (maybe at The Game Awards?). Crazy isn't it? That we could be getting ready to ditch the PlayStation 5, which I know from my friends many people haven't even got around to buying yet, because they don't think it has enough good games. I know Sony and Microsoft want to convince themselves that exclusives don't matter but I've never spoken to anyone that didn't think it was the number one reason to buy a console, even if there are other factors as well. The best guess at the moment for the PS6 release date is 2027 and not only am I not ready for it but I don't think the rest of the games industry is either. I doubt that will stop Sony though. Focus No comparison I agreed a lot with what the Reader's Feature said about Nintendo at the weekend. I don't know if I'd call it arrogance, but they certainly seem to be making a lot of assumptions that their Switch 1 audience is going to be onboard, no matter what they do. The Switch 2 is selling well at the moment but there's not much else this whole year to distract anyone. When GTA 6 and the PlayStation 6 come along that's going to be different. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Also, I don't think there's any question that the launch line-up isn't as good as the first Switch. Not so much because of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza but what's coming up next, which is… a big bag of nothing. I know Zelda: Breath Of The Wild was a special case but that wasn't all they had that year. They also had Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, ARMS, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Super Mario Odyssey, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. That is a hell of a line-up, and I really don't think Metroid Prime 4 and a handful of lame spin-offs are going to match up. As the feature said, Nintendo had forever to get ready for this and it feels like they were caught napping. Taylor Moon Easy target To be honest, I'd be surprised if GTA 6 didn't have age verification of some sort, even if this stupid new UK law ends. Considering the age and attitude of the average GTA Online player I would imagine Rockstar's biggest concern with the new game is not getting caught up in headlines about corrupting the youth and encouraging sex and violence. That sort of thing used to be free publicity for video games but even as long ago as the black coffee incident, it's not been a joke for Rockster. It's been a potential threat to their games being taken off sale. Especially as they also got in trouble for Bully and Manhunt. Considering how things are nowadays it's not just politicians that would jump at the chance for a new scapegoat and GTA 6 is going to be so high profile it's going to become a target to a lot of people. Wotan Email your comments to: gamecentral@ Big secrets I think it would've been better for Nintendo if their sales figures weren't so good because now they're going to feel undefeatable, as if this is confirmation that all the choices they've made so far are right. I wouldn't be quite as negative about the situation as the Reader's Feature at the weekend, but I think it's definitely true that something isn't right. I bought the console at launch, but I'm still not quite tempted to get Donkey Kong Bananza. And the only game I am looking forward to this year is Metroid Prime 4, which is really just a Switch 1 game. They're keeping things too close to their chest and a lot of people, like at the weekend, are beginning to think that's because they've nothing planned, rather than they've got big secrets they're hiding. Which is true I don't know, but it feels like Nintendo are beginning to wear out their trust already. Limpton Happy anniversary It's officially my 28th birthday and wouldn't you know it? I've been surprised in the best way possible. I wasn't originally getting this, due to the fact that I'll be holidaying in Tenerife in a few days. But you know what they say, Nintendo always finds a way. Nah I'm joking. But still a truly lovely way to make my birthday and I'm happily grateful for it. Shahzaib Sadiq Change of plans I'm actually kind of worried about Monster Hunter Wilds starting to tank and what it means for Capcom or any company in a similar position. One minute they're living their best life and hinting at bringing back tons of retro franchises, the next their share price is plummeting and they're looking like a one hit wonder. There's so many reasons to hate live service games and their unpredictability is right up there. I don't know what Capcom did wrong or why it only took till now for people to get upset about it (I've never liked the games) but now their priority is going to be fixing Wilds and getting Resident Evil Requiem out as quickly as possible, in order to get some good headline and please investors. So instead of taking their time with Requiem, and making sure it's perfect, they're going to be under pressure to get it out the door as soon as possible. Same thing with a Monster Hunter sequel, which was probably not planned but now may be the only way to change people's opinion on the franchise. I don't work at Capcom, obviously, but these are just basic, standard responses to a problem from any company. So anyone out there hoping for a new Mega Man or a Dino Crisis remake, I think we're going to have to wait for Capcom's next winning streak. At least Onimusha fans got in before things turned sour though, so kudos to them. Benjy Dog No change A really can't take serious gamers when they start talking about boycotts and suddenly jumping ship from a franchise they've been playing non-stop for years. It's never going to happen. All this complaining about Call Of Duty skins, but did they buy Black Ops 6 and are they going to buy Black Ops 7? In 99% of cases the answer's going to be 'Yes' (followed by an excuse). I also don't believe the stat about 80% of them shifting over to Battlefield 6. If there's one lesson from this era of gaming, it's that nobody wants to change their usual routine. Lumpy Sell up Just a quick one to say that the Reader's Feature this week stunk of self-entitlement. The Switch 2 was dead on arrival to you? Maybe don't buy it then? Donkey Kong Bananza's camera was a sign of a lack of care when in the real world a little jankiness of the camera is probably just part and parcel of what was attempted, with the sheer level of destruction at speed. But no, they clearly didn't care. A game, eight years in the making. Behave yourself, have a sit down for god's sake. Not one of your points hold any weight. You don't like the games released. That's fine. Don't take that as you being any sort of authority when clearly the media and the general public don't agree with you. I don't write in to online magazines when my exacting and ultimately niche wants aren't adhered to. Maybe take a step back, take a deep breath and realise that your individual wants are just part of the tapestry that mainstream providers of entertainment have to measure and land. The console launched with two high quality games within a month. Just stop being sensationalist. I'm tired of it. Sell your Switch 2. Adam GC: The feature said it's the opposite of dead on arrival. Inbox also-rans If they have remade Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag why are they so bothered about people knowing about it? Also if it has been remade why haven't they announced it yet? Sometimes game developers really do make me laugh at things they do. David GC: It probably wasn't what he said but the mere fact that he broke his NDA. Who knows what other information he might be party to. I don't know much about Battlefield – never played any of them – but the graphics on the new one are certainly turning my head. Very impressive. A pursuit involving a tank has been filmed in the city centre over the weekend. The huge armoured vehicle sped down the street being pursued by three NYPD police cars with red and blue lights flashing. The vehicle appeared to be 'firing' one of its prop guns, with light being seen coming from the weapon as it soared along the road. Two other cars were speeding behind the tank, one carrying a device used to trigger the blast. As the speeding police cars approached a junction, a huge fireball erupted sending out a ferocious boom as part of the stunt. The pursuing cops cars were sent screeching past the flames, with one weaving and skidding as part of the scene. Another explosion was triggered as the chase moved further down Bothwell Street. The blasts were triggered by devices attached to two motors involved in the chase. The stunt cars had boxes attached to long metal beams running behind them. Tom Holland spotted on Glasgow street filming stunts for Spider-Man Special effects teams triggered the blasts at precise moments to create the sensational action scenes Marvel films are well known for. Movie fans gathered in their droves to get a behind the scenes glimpse at how the big budget flick is being made. One onlooker said: "They had been driving the tank and police cars up and down the street all day, we just thought they were doing another take. "There were some smaller explosions in the scenes they were shooting but we weren't expecting anything like that. "I got a bit of a shock when that explosion happened, it was really epic. "Definitely not something you see every day." SPIDER-MAN STORM CHAOS? EXCLUSIVE BY PAIGE BERESFORD SPIDER-Man fans were blown away with a huge explosion stunt in Glasgow yesterday — as storm gusts of up to 90mph threaten to scupper filming on Monday. It is feared Storm Floris — carrying with it an amber alert 'threat to life' warning — will force filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to be shelved today. An insider said: 'There's talk it will be suspended because of the high winds and storm. 'Some parts of the set have already been blown over, but we'll need to wait and see what happens. You can't really have people hanging from things when there are strong winds.' READ MORE HERE Earlier today some lucky fans actually got to get a glimpse of Spidey star Holland when he appeared on set. The actor appeared in his Spider-Man costume and was riding on top of the tank in some scenes. Holland even showed he truly was a friendly-neighbourhood superhero when he came over to meet some of the fans who had gathered to see him. One lucky youngster, who came dressed as Spidey, was handed over the barriers and got his picture taken with the star. Spider-Man 4 is the latest flick to be filmed in Glasgow, and Bothwell Street is a popular choice. Hollywood hunk Glen Powell has filmed TWO recent movies in the city. The Twisters star filmed sci-fi flick Ghost Writer and the remake of 80's blockbuster Running Man on the street. World War Z, which starred Brad Pitt, 61, previously used George Square to represent Philadelphia, while the city was also transformed into Gotham City for Batgirl and The Batman. And the Merchant City got turned into 1960's New York for a parade chase scene in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
