I bought GTA 5 for the third time and it's still one of the best games ever
A reader reveals how the wait for GTA 6 led him to buy GTA 5 for the PS5, as he insists the 12-year-old game is still the best entry in the series so far. I love Grand Theft Auto. I'm in my fifties now and I don't often play video games anymore. If I have any spare time, I prefer to watch decent films or well scripted television series, like Succession. Video games require effort and physical interaction and I'm not really up for that after a week at work. Up until this year, due to my overall gaming lapse, I'd resisted upgrading to the current generation of consoles, but I've now purchased a PlayStation 5 for one reason alone. I have to play Grand Theft Auto 6. It's like an overpowering urge akin to when you're ravenous and you see a big tasty-looking cake. You want that cake. There's no debate in your head. That cake must find its way into your mouth. That's how I feel about Grand Theft Auto 6. When the new Grand Theft Auto game was delayed until next year I was utterly heartbroken, especially since I bought a new console for the sole purpose of playing it. The current instalment in the franchise, Grand Theft Auto 5, is relatively cheap at the moment (about 15 quid) and the old/current game began to look quite appealing to me as a stopgap until I could play the new game, but I held back from buying GTA 5 because I already own two copies on other formats. How could I possibly justify buying and playing Grand Theft Auto 5 again? Years ago, I bought and played GTA 5 extensively on the PlayStation 3. I purchased the game a second time on the Xbox One. In that enhanced version of the game there were notable improvements. Mainly, I'm thinking about first person view being an option in every vehicle. Grand Theft Auto 5 on PlayStation 5 seemed so unnecessary to me. Apparently the PlayStation 5 version wasn't much of an improvement, and wouldn't it be better and more adventurous to branch out and play something else? But then, as I've mentioned above, GTA 6 got delayed and I needed to satisfy my hunger for the franchise, and so I found myself buying the same game a third time. After this purchase I rather regretted surrendering to my urges, that is until I installed Grand Theft Auto 5 and actually started playing it. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. From my hands-on experience of the PlayStation 5 version, I have to say that Grand Theft Auto 5 is still a right laugh and in many respects I think it might be the best entry in the series. The missions in 5 are a major improvement on the previous games, in that they're fun and often spectacular. All too often in the other games, some of the missions regressed into becoming a major chore. That remote control helicopter mission in the multi-story carpark in Vice City sticks in my head as a serious blight in an otherwise enjoyable experience. Grand Theft Auto 5 is far more accommodating. If you keep failing the game offers you a chance to skip a mission, which is probably sacrilege to hardcore gamers but I think a bit of all-abilities inclusion is an excellent idea. I'm still barely into my latest playthrough and already rescuing Michael's son from his hijacked boat was/is so cool. You're chasing down a stolen yacht that's being towed in a trailer. Franklin jumps onto the yacht while it's in motion and you have to then catch him and Michael's dangling son. Brilliant stuff. I can't immediately remember missions with that kind of scope in the earlier games. I also love the random incidents that occur throughout the map while you play. After you've darted over to intervene in a theft, in true Grand Theft Auto style you can either give the money back to its rightful owner or keep it for yourself. The Strangers and Freaks side missions are a great addition too. Grand Theft Auto 5 offers a multitude of tempting distractions, other than simply running amok until the police take you down, which although fun can become a rather aimless and morally troubling activity. On this latest playthrough of GTA 5 I've only noticed a couple of downsides. I've been forced to remember how much I hated Franklin's mate Lamar. Just a horrible, moaning character with dialogue that's littered with offensive expletives. I punched Lamar and ran him over and that provided marginal relief but, yes, I still hate him. And the character models in general look a bit crusty and old, which is perfectly understandable given the age of the game itself. And if I'm honest the only improvement in the PlayStation 5 version is that the game loads slightly faster and maybe the environments look marginally better… so was it worth buying the game yet again? More Trending I have to say yes. Playing Grand Theft Auto 5 is still a joy and I'd recommend readers giving the game another go given its cheap price. In my opinion, no other game offers such a multifaceted and amusingly detailed experience. Listening to Cara Delevingne on Non-Stop-Pop FM. Stealing a flashy sports car and then gunning it for miles across the brilliantly realised map. Grand Theft Auto 5 really is the gift that keeps on giving, that is until Grand Theft Auto 6 finally comes out. Everything you need to know about GTA 6 as game listed on Xbox early
Rockstar isn't due to release Grand Theft Auto 6 until May 2026, but Xbox players were shocked to find that the world's most anticipated game was available to download from the Xbox Store a full 11 months ahead of its launch. It was too good to be true, of course. The surprise 328MB download turns out to be a placeholder file, designed to allow Rockstar Games to automatically pre-install the game to Xbox consoles when it does eventually launch next year. Rockstar hasn't even opened pre-orders for GTA 6 yet, but the frenzy around a dummy Xbox download is the latest indication of just how excited fans are to get even the faintest whiff of the game. Why was 'GTA 6' delayed? The CEO of Take-Two, which owns Rockstar Games, has confirmed why the decision was made to delay the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. The game was pushed back from its initial release window of Autumn 2025 to 26 May 2026, and Zelnick said it's because of how 'complex' the game is, describing the delay as a 'worthy investment'. In prepared remarks ahead of an earnings call, Zelnick said: 'I believe affording Rockstar additional time for such a groundbreaking project is a worthy investment. GTA 6 began development in earnest in 2020 following the massive success of Red Dead Redemption 2, and the title is now the most anticipated entertainment property of all time. 'The ambition and complexity of GTA 6 is greater than any previous Rockstar title, and the team is poised to release another astonishing entertainment experience that will exceed players' expectations.' This explanation comes after Rockstar released the second trailer for GTA 6 on 6 May, which had the biggest video launch in history with more than 475 million views across all platforms in its first 24 hours after release. It gave a fresh glimpse of protagonists Lucia and her partner – now confirmed to be named Jason – tearing through the Florida-inspired Vice City. It's the first trailer since the first teaser from December 2023, which shattered YouTube records and has since racked up more than 250 million views itself. The delay itself came on 2 May, shortly after Zelnick hinted a slip was possible despite earlier confidence in a 2025 launch window. While GTA 6 is now on the back burner until 2026, Borderlands 4, which was announced at the same time, is still scheduled to arrive in September. So, what do we know about GTA 6? When is the game releasing? And how much could it cost? We've got all the details about the upcoming instalment of the franchise. 'GTA 6' release date and trailer 2: When will the game launch? The long-awaited second trailer for GTA 6 recently landed, giving fans a fresh look at Vice City and our two new protagonists, but it came with a dose of disappointment. Rockstar officially confirmed that the game won't be arriving in 2025 as originally promised. Instead, it's now set to launch on 26 May 2026, according to a statement shared on the publisher's social media channels. It's not the first time Rockstar has delayed a major release. Take Red Dead Redemption 2, for example. The first teaser for that game arrived in October 2016 with a planned launch in the second half of 2017. It was then delayed twice, first to early 2018, and finally released on 26 October 2018 – a full two years after the teaser dropped. The timeline now looks similar for GTA 6. The game's first trailer debuted in December 2023, promising a 2025 release window. But with the new date set for May 2026, Rockstar appears to be following a familiar pattern. Timeline of 'GTA 6' release date delays Rumours of a GTA 6 delay began circulating in March 2024, when a report from Kotaku revealed insiders at Rockstar believed the game would be pushed to late 2025 or even early 2026. According to the report, development had started to 'fall behind,' with Rockstar leadership concerned the studio wouldn't hit its original target. Just a month earlier, in February 2024, Rockstar mandated a full return to the office for its staff. While the company cited quality and security as reasons, sources told Kotaku it was also driven by mounting pressure to stay on schedule. At the time, Kotaku reported that while early 2025 had once been possible, the studio was now aiming for an Autumn 2025 launch – a sentiment echoed by Zelnick during earnings calls throughout the year. In December 2024, Zelnick teased the game as 'extraordinary and worth waiting for,' adding that it would be 'breathtaking.' That timeline was finally upended when Rockstar officially confirmed the delay and set a new release date of 26 May 2026. The news came just ahead of the release of GTA 6 's second trailer, giving fans a new glimpse at the game's setting and characters. Zelnick has also given recent interviews where he's said when a specific release date is given, it's historically been met in relation to other titles. 'GTA 6' location: Where is Vice City? The second trailer for GTA 6 confirms the game is set in the state of Leonida – Rockstar's fictional take on Florida. Vice City sits at the centre of it all, returning as the main location. This time around, the city looks bigger, more detailed and far more grounded in modern-day culture than the 1980s version seen in previous games. While Vice City still has the flashy beachfronts and neon lights, it now includes everything from pastel hotels and late-night strip clubs to busy roads, local businesses and viral-style social media clips. Areas like Ocean Beach, Little Haiti and the Tisha-Wocka flea market all appear to be part of the city. Landmarks like the VCI airport and Port VC show up again, hinting at a much larger, more complex map. The game will also include locations like the Leonida Keys – a tropical island chain – and Grassrivers, a sprawling swamp region. There's Port Gellhorn, a faded coastal town with run-down shops and motels, and Ambrosia, which is dominated by a sugar refinery and a biker gang. Mount Kalaga, a mountainous rural area in the north, rounds things out. While Vice City is the headline location, GTA 6 is shaping up to be much more than a city map. The wider state of Leonida looks like a vast world, with plenty to explore outside the city. There is speculation that the inclusion of Mount Kalaga and the mention of Gloriana, which could be a fictional state based on neighbouring Georgia, means the game will expand beyond Leonida too. 'GTA 6' story and characters: Who will be the main protagonists in the new game? Rockstar recently released character bios for GTA 6. The two main protagonists are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Jason is a former soldier working for local drug runners in the Keys, while Lucia has just been released from Leonida Penitentiary and is looking for a way to turn her life around. Cal Hampton is Jason's friend and an associate of Brian Heder. He is described as living 'at the low tide of America' and spends his time listening to Coast Guard communications while drinking at home. Brian Heder is a veteran drug smuggler from the Keys. He runs a boat yard with his third wife, Lori, and is allowing Jason to live rent-free at one of his properties in exchange for help with local shakedowns. Boobie Ike is described as a Vice City legend who owns a strip club, recording studio and property portfolio, while Dre'Quan Priest is said to be an aspiring music mogul who runs Only Raw Records and is focused on building his label's reputation in the local music scene. Real Dimez is a rap duo made up of Bae-Luxe and Roxy. They are described as using their time shaking down dealers to fund their music careers and grow their social media following. They are signed to Only Raw Records. Raul Bautista is described as a seasoned bank robber who is always on the hunt for new talent. How much is 'GTA 6' going to cost? There's still no official price, and Take-Two bosses refused to be drawn on revealing how much it will cost despite being asked about it by investors during the most recent earnings call. While rumours have suggested the game could cost up to $150 (£120) due to its reported $1bn to $2bn budget, that seems unlikely. The price of games is rising, though, with Nintendo the first to up the price of one of its star digital games to $80 (£75) with Mario Kart World. Microsoft confirmed it will be following suit and doing the same with some of its first-party titles over the pre-Christmas shopping period. There has been speculation Rockstar is likely to follow suit, however Mafia: The Old Country, published by sister Rockstar company 2K, is being sold at $49.99 (£44.99) and Zelnick said in Take-Two's most recent earnings call the company is focused on giving gamers value for money through its variable pricing model. What console will 'GTA 6' be on, and is 'GTA 6' cross-platform? GTA 6 is officially coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on 26 May 2026. Rockstar has not confirmed a PC release, and there's no mention yet of a version for PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch 2. A PC version will likely come later, based on Rockstar's usual release pattern. Cross-platform play has not been confirmed. Rockstar hasn't said anything specific about the Nintendo Switch 2, but Zelnick has previously said the Switch's audience has broadened and that 'we actually would fully expect to support Switch [2]', though GTA 6 was not mentioned by name. If it does come to the Switch 2, it'll almost certainly be well after the main launch. There's worse news for 4K support and 60fps. In 2024, Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter said the PS5 Pro was unlikely to run GTA 6 at 60fps, explaining that the series has always pushed the CPU hard. Since the PS5 Pro uses the same CPU as the base PS5, experts believe it will likely be locked to 30fps at launch, with possible upgrades later. Tech experts there have since doubled down on these claims after scrutinising the second trailer. While there are currently no deals on the standalone PS5 Slim console, if you buy the console from Very, the retailer will throw in a copy of the PS5 version of GTA 5 for just £10, saving you £10.

GTA6 is now available... to pre-load to your console as fresh details 'leaked'
GTA 6's official release may be a year away but a new development has left fans "gearing up" for a "masterpiece" Waiting for a new game to drop on PS5 or Xbox is always a tough one. You've seen the trailer, watched the teaser, and scoured the internet for whatever inside scoop you can find on what you might be dealing with on release day. Rockstar Games announced last month that the release of Grand Theft Auto VI would be delayed until May 26, 2026. Gamers were up in arms over the announcement, with many impatient to discover GTA 6's new features. A second teaser trailer for the game was also released, raising tensions even more, but now gamers will be chuffed to hear that, despite a postponement until next May, GTA 6 is now available. That is, available to 'wish list' on both Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. While fans were able to add GTA 6 to their PS5 wish list as early as May, the option was conspicuously absent from the Xbox Store. In welcome news for fans, the team at Rockstar Games has now seen to the issue. Players can now express their interest in GTA 6 via wish list on the Xbox website and directly through the console. Although not equivalent to being able to pre-order, wish listing represents an important step towards the much-anticipated release of GTA 6. The Store Page for GTA 6 boasts not only the game's intriguing trailers but also a range of screenshots for virtual voyeurs. And the revelations just keep on coming as new details about the expected GTA 6 online mode have reportedly been "leaked" online, as spotted by X, formerly Twitter, user @GTAVI_Countdown, and reported by Fravillys, a former Rockstar Mag chief editor who is believed to have previously dropped exclusive insight about the RAGE engine, has written a piece containing alleged information about the expected online mode in GTA 6. "According to an inside source, the upcoming multiplayer game, codenamed 'GTA6MP', is currently at an advanced stage, much more so than it was during the original GTA Online, which was developed between 2008 and 2013," Fravillys wrote in a translated article. "One of the most significant advances would be the ability to perform free-roam multiplayer activities with players from different sessions, without ever having to leave your own environment or experience loading times. "The next version of GTA Online is said to be aiming for a seamless and immersive gaming experience, with the ambition of reaching up to 96 simultaneous players per session. However, according to my latest information, this figure is currently limited to 64 players." None of this has been confirmed by Rockstar. Elsewhere, there has been reaction aplenty to the Xbox Wish list development. One X user wrote: "Already wish listed. I'm not sure I can do the late night like I used to but I'm sure to try for this game!!" Another enthused: "Now we can experience this masterpiece in the greatest console ever!" A third joked: "My work wondering why I'm suddenly sick on may M6, 2026". Others were concerned about the game's release date. One commented: "I expect one more delay, watch it push into summer '26" and a second agreed: "We all know it's going to get pushed back again though". A third questioned: "Should we trust this ETA?" while a fourth pointed out: "I am honestly surprised they didn't push it to June 6th. GTA 6 on 6, 6, 2026, would have been good marketing." The game's narrative is believed to around two principal characters, Jason and Lucia and set in various locations including Vice City itself, along with Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, and Ambrosia. GTA 6: Four ‘gossips' that might actually be true
A lot has come out about GTA 6, following the second trailer. Rockstar has published a slew of game lore on its website, including details about its characters, some of the storyline, the locations in the game, and more. GTA 6 is going to launch on May 26, 2026.(Rockstar) However, there is a lot that is yet to be unveiled, and it is only going to be revealed when the game is released on 26 May 2026. Having said that, fans and online communities have been talking about several possibilities that could come true in Rockstar's GTA 6. Let us tell you about the top rumours and theories about the world and storyline of GTA 6, which could end up coming true, based on various things that people have spotted. 1. Liberty City could be a visitable location In the second trailer for the game, you see a chase sequence wherein a car has a Liberty City number plate. It is, of course, part of a cutscene, so whether the car is visiting from Liberty City or if you are actually in Liberty City is still up in the air. Another key reason why Liberty City could play a central role in GTA 6 is that Lucia, one of the two protagonists alongside Jason, is from Liberty City, according to Rockstar. Perhaps Liberty City will be a small part of the game, similar to how North Yankton was part of GTA 5. MOBILE FINDER: iPhone 16 LATEST Price 2. The return of dynamic body types Remember GTA San Andreas and how you could get fat or buff depending on how many times you visited the gym? Similarly, because Jason in GTA 6 has a chiseled physique and defined muscles, and we have even seen him working out in the second trailer, it could be that gyms will make a comeback in GTA 6. This could make for a very dynamic experience. Imagine if Rockstar allows you to get better performance from your character if they are muscular compared to when they are overweight. It could certainly make things quite interesting. 3. Pets in GTA 6 Another key detail we found in the second GTA 6 trailer is a cutscene that features a pet iguana inside a glass enclosure in a house. So, maybe you will be able to get pets in GTA 6. However, what is certain is that there are going to be many types of animals in the game. We have seen people walking their dogs in the trailer, and Rockstar has also detailed that there will be a wide variety of animals, including alligators in Leonida, flamingos, and a whole lot more. 4. Refuelling your car In GTA 5, you can enter a car and it can keep going, provided you do not damage it. This means, like most open-world games, you have unlimited fuel. This might not be the case in GTA 6, as online communities have spotted NPCs filling their cars at petrol stations in the game trailer. This could definitely be a hint that you may also need to fill up your car to keep it going. We have seen a similar mechanic in the PlayStation-exclusive game Days Gone, wherein you have to consistently fill up your bike to travel. This could be an interesting addition, considering you might have to plan ahead if you want to go somewhere and keep filling up, just like in real life.

Fact Check: Is GTA 6 already available for download? Fans lose it after viral post surface
Is GTA 6 out for download? In a strange twist, GTA 6 is apparently available to download now, 11 months ahead of its official release date, reported Gaming Bible. Rockstar Games has been tight-lipped on the release of the game; however, after the release of the second trailer nearly a year after the first trailer drop, they hinted that the game will be released by May 2026. Despite this, fans have been speculating on the official launch of the game, leaks, new features and more. With the growing hype of the game, it really feels like the game is larger than life. Fact check: Is GTA 6 really available for download? Earlier this week, fans were quite excited to see that GTA VI is now available to download. According to the report, GTA fans who play on Xbox Series X/S are able to download the game to their consoles from the Microsoft Store. It also stated that players can do this earlier via the web or the store on the console. But if we look at the facts, the download of the game is only 328.76 MB in size, as well as the fact that the game is 11 months away. This doesn't mean that players can play an early version of the game. As per the report, the game is not available for pre-orders, and there is no chance that Rockstar will release the game anytime soon. GTA 6 placeholder pre-load is 328.76mb in to launch the game only shows the game's artwork for a brief moment before closing. But what does the viral post mean? Recently, a post shared by an X (formerly called Twitter) account @GTA6Alerts mentioned, "Attempting to play the game greets you with the cover art for a brief moment before it closes and boots you back to the Xbox dashboard." By this state, the user means that this download only installs the preliminary files that will allow GTA 6 to preload when the game is officially launched. If a player has this on their console, the game will pre-install itself in the days before the release.
