‘Mega logistics hub' planned in Greater Noida
This project will be developed on approximately 174 acres land which costs ₹11,000 per sqm. The site is located near the Noida International Airport in Jewar.
'This is a unique project and a core component of Greater Noida authority's Master Plan 2041 and it will address the National Capital Region's expanding logistics needs and enhance competitiveness of industries in the global market. This project will not only fuel the growth but also create thousands of jobs,' said Ravi Kumar NG, chief executive officer of Greater Noida authority.
It will also enjoy seamless connectivity to the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, positioning it as a key logistics and cargo hub in NCR.
Located adjacent to a 250-acre Inland Container Depot (ICD) operated by public sector enterprise Concor, the MMLP is expected to form part of an integrated cargo zone. Officials estimate the project will attract investments of ₹5,000 crore and generate approximately 15,000 jobs.
The park will feature an intermodal container terminal facilitating cargo movement by road, rail, and air. Modern infrastructure such as cargo yards, cold-storage-enabled warehouses with automated systems, and dedicated terminals for bulk and break-bulk cargo will be included.
Companies will also be allowed to operate bonded and non-bonded warehousing, freight forwarding, and customs clearance services. A skill development centre is planned to train personnel in logistics and digital cargo handling.
Officials highlighted the advantage of proximity to the airport and freight corridors, offering multimodal connectivity for efficient goods movement.
The authority will begin accepting online applications for land allotment from Friday. The application window will remain open for one month. A screening committee will first evaluate entries, followed by a final review by an allotment committee.
To be eligible, companies must commit to investing at least ₹1,200 crore—excluding land cost—and have a minimum of 10 years of experience in logistics, especially in managing ICDs or rail terminals.
The project will be developed under the Uttar Pradesh government's Multi-Modal Logistics Park Policy 2024, which offers incentives to qualified investors. Allotments will be based on a marking system covering investment proposals and prior experience, with shortlisted applicants invited for presentations. In case of a tie, allotment will be determined by a draw of lots.

A 23% jump in women's employment in Bengaluru and a 21% increase in Hubballi-Dharwad have been recorded following the implementation of Karnataka's Shakti Scheme, which offers fare-free bus travel to women, according to a new study. The report highlights Karnataka as the best-performing State among five-studied States, in terms of linking free public transport to employment gains for women. The findings come from a new report titled 'Beyond Free Rides: A Multi-State Assessment of Women's Bus Fare Subsidy Schemes in Urban India', commissioned by the Sustainable Mobility Network and conducted by Nikore Associates. The report is based on over 2,500 surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews conducted across 10 cities in Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, according to the study. In Karnataka, nearly 27% of women in both Bengaluru and Hubballi-Dharwad reported switching to buses because of the scheme, while many said they now travel more frequently and farther for work, education, and other essential needs, the study claims. Mitali Nikore, Founder and chief economist of Nikore Associates, said, 'The Shakti Scheme is enabling more frequent travel, longer trips, and better access to essential services, especially for women who were previously limited by cost. Karnataka's experience shows what's possible when intention meets inclusive access.' 'Met primary objective' Speaking about the findings, Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy said, 'The primary objective of the Shakti Scheme is to empower women, and the increase in women's employment highlighted in the study is an encouraging sign.' 'I have observed that since the scheme was introduced, a large number of women particularly from lower-middle and middle-income families have been using the free bus service to commute for work. Many have found jobs in sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, retail, and domestic services, among others,' Mr. Reddy told The Hindu. Persistent challenges However, the report flags persistent challenges, particularly around first-and-last-mile connectivity. Many women living in peripheral urban areas continue to depend on autorickshaws or other paid options to reach bus stop, costs that eat into their savings and limit the impact of the fare-free scheme. Safety remains another key barrier. Despite rising bus usage, less than half of women in Bengaluru and Hubballi-Dharwad reported feeling safe while commuting. Issues cited include harassment, overcrowding, poor lighting, and lack of staffing at bus stops. To improve the effectiveness of the Shakti Scheme and others like it, the report recommends: fleet expansion to meet rising demand, gender-sensitive staffing and training of transport workers, installation of safety infrastructure like CCTV cameras, lighting, and responsive helplines, and better integration with first-mile and last-mile options. From June 11, 2023, to July 24, 2025, the Shakti Scheme enabled over 508 crore trips for women passengers to travel free of cost across the four State transport undertakings—Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation. The ticket value of women passengers travelled is ₹12,881 crore.

Noida airport expansion may hit 17k families, 7 govt schools
Noida: The expansion of Noida International Airport is set to uproot more than 4,600 families and force the relocation of seven govt schools. A draft rehabilitation plan — released by the district administration on Wednesday — said more than 17,000 families were likely to be affected directly or indirectly by the acquisition of 1,857 hectares across 14 villages for the airport's third and fourth phases. According to a household survey conducted between May and June, most affected families are small-scale farmers or agricultural labourers, with 58% of them earning between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh annually. Only 4% earn more than Rs 5 lakh a year. The draft plan, prepared on the basis of the survey, said since a large part of the economy was dependent on farming and animal husbandry, the resettlement area should include infrastructure like facilities for livestock. The district administration has earmarked 340 hectares near Jewar town — in Alavalpur, Mangaroli, Ahmedpur Chawroli, and Neemka Shahjahanpur — for rehabilitating the families, planning a new community with modern amenities. Plots ranging from 50 to 500sqm will be allocated to the villagers based on family size. Only 1% of households in Neemka Shahjahanpur, 20% in Khwajpur, and 50% in Thora participated in the survey that preceded the draft plan, seeking better compensation and water security. Apart from households, seven govt schools will have to be relocated from Banwariwas, Kishorepur, Ramner, Neemka Shahjahanpur, Khwajpur, Thora, and Jewar Bangar. According to the plan, land will be allotted to these schools at no cost at the new site, although no compensation will be given for the land currently occupied by them.
