Kevin Feige has revealed that a Marvel "reset" is in the works – though it's not a full reboot.
The news comes ahead of Marvel Phase 6 kicking off in just a few days with the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
As Feige explained to assembled journalists at a press event (via Variety), Avengers: Secret Wars will be the catalyst for a new MCU. "We're utilizing that [story] not just to round out the stories we've been telling post-Endgame, just as importantly – and you can look at the Secret War comics for where that takes you – it very, very much sets us up for the future," Feige revealed. "Endgame, literally, was about endings. Secret Wars is about beginnings."
But, it's not going to be a complete overhaul. "Reboot is a scary word," Feige said. "Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline – we're thinking along those lines."
He added: "X-Men is where that will happen next." Feige also confirmed that, post-Secret Wars, the X-Men will be recast for a movie directed by Thunderbolts* helmer Jake Schreier. Plus, he commented that even characters like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers would be recast eventually.
Next up for Marvel is Fantastic Four, which stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm.
That movie arrives on July 24 in the UK and July 25 in the US. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows or how to watch the Marvel movies in order for even more on the MCU.

Penny-pinching is keeping the big brands away from Comic-Con this year

This year's San Diego Comic-Con is starting to sound like it'll be a bit of a ghost town—at least, as far as hypothetically huge blockbuster movies are concerned. Not to cast aspersions or anything, but when the biggest film that the world's largest movie studios can muster up to pack people in to the Con's fabled Hall H is a Tron sequel, you know something has gone awry. The Wrap has a new report looking into the state of this year's Con, which will see Marvel and DC Studios both deciding not to bother with the Big Room, with the most that James Gunn's Warner Bros.-backed efforts willing to do is a panel on his soon-to-return TV series Peacemaker. Partly, this is a matter of pure timing: Both studios are releasing their big superhero tentpoles ahead of this year's SDCC, with Superman coming in two weeks before the Con's July 24 start date, while Marvel's Fantastic Four is opening at the same time as the convention itself. Having dispensed with the Four, Marvel genuinely doesn't seem to have much on tap to offer up as hype bait right now: There's a new Spider-Man movie out in a year, but Avengers: Doomsday has now been pushed to next fall; better, the thinking seems to be, to save some money and let anticipation grow, rather than drop several hundred thousand dollars to trot the casts out with no new footage to show. As noted by The Wrap, DC probably could field something exciting for the Con, given that Gunn is sitting on hard drives full of footage of Craig Gillespie's Supergirl, due out next June. (The movie finished shooting back in May, right around the time it ditched its Woman Of Tomorrow subtitle.) But the studio is apparently holding back, possibly to launch an effort at a different Comic-Con later in the year. (And a little less far out from the movie's eventual release.) Honestly, the whole thing can't help but feel like a symptom of the general wave of diminishing returns that seem to be afflicting superhero films as a whole over the last few years: Marvel had two different films (Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*) both land in the sub-$500 million box office bracket, which has maybe made Disney a little less eager to pay stars (and their stylists, managers, and other various highly necessary associates) to trek out to San Diego to wave at the crowds. Marvel managed to summon up a bit of that old excitement last year, when it gave Hall H a full-court press that ended in the reveal that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, but you can only pull that ripcord so often; as is, it feels like the spectacle of the big superhero Comic-Con appearance is currently going the way of the big superhero movie as a whole. Vanessa Kirby On Not Hesitating To Commit To Marvel & The 'Complete Privilege' Of Working On ‘Avengers: Doomsday'

Vanessa Kirby, much to her surprise, had no trouble committing to the sprawling MCU as she was cast in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, where she portrays Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in Marvel Studios' official launch of Phase Six. During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, The Crown alumna talked about falling in love with the famed comic book character and what it's been like reprising the role for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. More from Deadline 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Blasts Off With $218M Global Bow; Milestones Aplenty For 'Jurassic', 'Superman', 'F1' & 'Dragon' - International Box Office 'Fantastic Four: First Steps' Lighter At $118M, But Still Super In Opening - Box Office Update 'Fantastic Four's Pedro Pascal On Why He's "Never Gone Back" To Clean-Shaven Look Like In 'Wonder Woman 1984' 'When this one came around, I was so genuinely moved by the fact that this was a woman who was pregnant and was a new mother, and also has these superpowers,' Kirby said. 'It helped me ground it in something — to try and understand what it would be like to have both those things happening at the same time was a challenge, but I was grateful for that because it rooted it in this kind of domesticity, in this family and home, which made it easier.' For the role, Kirby did not audition, first meeting with helmer Matt Shakman over lunch and later on top brass Kevin Feige. The actress said she was excited to mine the 'counterculture and super meaningful' '60s comic book era to bring the character to life, adding that because of Sue Storm's expansive journey she didn't have any trepidation agreeing to future MCU pipeline projects. 'With this, I actually didn't have that, and I'm surprised to say that,' the Pieces of a Woman star explained. 'I think it was because I really liked her so much and because I'd read so many of the comics and she goes through so many different iterations. She becomes Malice, this really dark version of herself for quite a long time, and then she renames herself Invisible Woman having been called Invisible Girl and she goes off with Psycho-Man, like her history is incredible, so I felt like there's so much there to even [explore] psychologically. I mean, she has a stillborn, and people don't know that. She's gone through a lot.' More importantly, Kirby said she felt confident continuing her collaboration with the superhero studio alongside her fellow First Steps co-stars Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach: 'I knew I wouldn't be without these three actors, and these three actors have genuinely become family, and I admired them so much, and I knew that we're a four and the four in the comics are never separated, so I assumed that we'd be together, and that really helped 'cause then you're not a lone ranger going to new, daunting environments.' Speaking to the much-hyped Doomsday, Kirby said more shoots are on the way: 'I'm loving it, absolutely loving it. It's been a complete privilege,' she said of filming, which she is doing while pregnant, adding that it's the 'coolest' experience. Shakman previously spoke to Deadline about how his MCU entry is able to 'pass the baton' to the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed 2026 movie. Though plot details are currently tightly under wraps, audiences can expect the tentpole to center on supervillain and Fantastic Four arch nemesis Dr. Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). '[The Russo Brothers] describe it like they're making a recipe of different ingredients, and it's unbelievable that these Avengers movies work in such a beautiful way,' Kirby said. 'You look at Infinity War and you've got all these different energies but somehow they all fuse together, and I remember them saying the first one they had no idea if any of them would go together, and it just works. It's quite exciting to be a part of something and go, 'OK, this is my flavor, I don't know.' It's in their hands to work out what flavors go with what and how and where and there's a surrender in that.' Lauding Downey Jr.'s leadership onscreen, Kirby said: 'He's the most incredible human being, soulful, deep, kind — he's been an amazing leader to us considering we're the newbies, and a lot of the others have known this world for a really long time, and he's been a phenomenal leader, and also he's just doing the most amazing work.' In addition to the quartet from First Steps and Downey Jr., confirmed cast members include Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, Florence Pugh, Simu Liu, Tom Hiddleston, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Danny Ramirez, Hannah John-Kamen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Channing Tatum, Tenoch Huerta Mejía and Lewis Pullman.
