Prince Turki Al-Faisal calls for intensifying efforts for economic and social empowerment of Palestinians

RIYADH — Prince Turki Al-Faisal, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Jerusalem Empowerment Fund, underlined the need to intensify efforts for economic and social empowerment of Palestinians. ''Palestine, and Jerusalem in particular, are going through difficult circumstances, which necessitates intensifying efforts to empower the Palestinian people economically and socially through the Jerusalem Empowerment Fund (JEF)," he said while addressing the expanded meeting of the Jerusalem Empowerment Fund with the Saudi business sector, organized by the Federation of Saudi Chambers in Riyadh on Wednesday.
Prince Turki Al-Faisal called on the Saudi business sector to support the JEF, based on its societal role and religious duty. He considered the meeting as a good opportunity to double mobilization, build partnerships, and expand work, given the Islamic Development Bank's strong reputation and global presence.
The meeting affirms the federation's active role in enhancing the Saudi private sector's contribution to the causes of the Islamic nation, most notably supporting the Palestinian people in particular. He said the meeting comes in support of Palestine and the steadfastness of its people.
In his speech, Vice President of the Federation of Saudi Chambers Fayez Al-Shuaili highlighted the Kingdom's efforts in supporting Arab and Islamic causes and its pioneering role in establishing Islamic organizations, including the Islamic Development Bank and the JEF. He also emphasized the role of the Saudi private sector in supporting development programs and economic projects of Islamic organizations, its achievements in charitable and humanitarian work, and its positive engagement with humanitarian campaigns under the umbrella of relevant government agencies in the Kingdom.
Acting Director of the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development Adel Al-Sharif, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of JEF Munib Al-Masri also spoke on the occasion. The meeting featured a visual presentation about the Jerusalem Empowerment Fund, which was established in 2021 as a trust and endowment fund administered by the Islamic Development Bank, pursuant to a decision by the Board of Directors of the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development. It aims to empower the Palestinian people economically and socially in Palestine in general and the city of Jerusalem in particular. The Fund's activities focus on four main sectors: education, housing, community development, and economic empowerment.

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Saudi Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZTCA) announced that the minister of finance has approved extension of the initiative to waive fines and exempt taxpayers from penalties for a period of six months, starting July 1, 2025. This extension applies to taxpayers until December 31, 2025 under all Saudi tax laws. The authority said that the initiative offers relief from penalties associated with late registration, late payment, and late filing of returns. It also waives fines for correcting value-added tax (VAT) returns, fines for field violations related to electronic-invoicing regulations, and general VAT-related infractions. The eligibility requirements stipulate that taxpayers must meet registration requirements as outlined by the authority. They must also submit all required returns to the authority that have not been previously submitted, correctly disclose all undisclosed taxes, and fully pay the principal tax debt related to the returns to be submitted or amended to correctly disclose outstanding tax liabilities. Taxpayers may also submit a request to the authority for installment payments, provided the request is submitted during the initiative's validity period and all installments shall be paid within their due dates according to the installment plan approved by the authority. The ZTAC emphasized that the initiative does not cover penalties for tax evasion violations, fines paid before the effective date of this initiative, or fines related to returns owed to the authority after June 30, 2025. The authority called on taxpayers to review the details of the initiative and its provisions through the simplified guide for the initiative, available on its website. The guide provides a detailed explanation of the salient features of the fine exemption decision, including clarification of the types of fines covered, the conditions for benefiting from the exemption associated with each type of fine, and the steps for disbursing financial dues in installments. It also outlines the field control violations covered by the initiative, with illustrative examples. SFD signs deal worth over $38 million to enhance infrastructure in Tunisia
Saudi Gazette report TUNIS — Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) Chief Executive Officer Sultan Al-Marshad signed on Saturday a new development loan agreement with Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning Dr. Samir Abdelhafidh to finance the establishment of an Oasis Hub Project in southern Tunisia. The loan, exceeding $38 million, was signed in the presence of Saudi Ambassador to Tunisia Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Saqr. The agreement reflects the strong bilateral development partnership that has spanned nearly 50 years. The Oasis Hub Project aims to support sustainable rural development through the reclamation of more than 1,000 hectares of agricultural land across various regions of Tunisia. The project includes the drilling and equipping of 22 wells, the expansion of rural villages and their infrastructure, and the construction of over 285 housing units for local beneficiaries. Additionally, the project will enhance the region's infrastructure by building roads, pipelines, and networks for potable and irrigation water, while also supporting the development of educational institutions, agricultural facilities, and cultural, social, and commercial centers. These efforts collectively aim to improve the quality of life and stimulate economic and social growth in Tunisia's southern governorates. The agreement is part of SFD's ongoing efforts to promote sustainable development in Tunisia by financing infrastructure projects that contribute to improving living standards, creating job opportunities, and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Since it began operations in Tunisia in 1975, SFD has financed 32 development projects and programs through concessional loans totaling more than $1.2 billion, in addition to grants provided by Saudi Arabia through SFD, amounting to over $105 million. Meanwhile, Tunisian Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri received Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) Chief Executive Officer Sultan Al-Marshad in Tunis on Saturday. The reception was also attended by Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Abdelhafidh, Saudi Ambassador to Tunisia Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Saqr, and other officials. Zenzri and Al-Marshad reviewed ways to strengthen development cooperation between the two countries and highlighted the longstanding bilateral partnership that spans over five decades, particularly in financing key development projects in Tunisia. Al-Marshad also met with Tunisian Minister of Health Dr. Mustapha Ferjani in the presence of the Saudi ambassador. They discussed ongoing health projects funded by SFD and explored opportunities to support the Tunisian health sector. The meetings come as part of Al-Marshad's official visit to Tunisia, during which a development loan agreement worth over $38 million is scheduled to be signed with the Tunisian Ministry of Economy and Planning to support infrastructure projects in the country.
