Naomi leaves Evolution as women's world champion after cashing in Money in the Bank contract
Naomi warned the WWE women's division for weeks to "proceed with caution," and on Sunday, she cashed in her Money in the Bank contract and delivered a shocking end to Evolution. Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley were locked into an epic battle for the Women's World Championship. The two pulled out all the stops, including a Spanish Fly from the top ropes for Ripley and a crossbody from Sky off of some sound equipment. But after Ripley hit the Spanish Fly, Naomi hit. She rushed to the ring with a referee and turned the one-on-one contest into a triple threat match. She hit Sky with the Money in the Bank briefcase, sent Ripley into the ring post and made Sky "feel the glow." She pinned Sky and left Evolution as women's world champion. It's the third title reign of her career. Naomi had lost a no-holds-barred match against Jade Cargill earlier in the night. She came out for the match with a bandage over her nose, but she wasn't hurt enough to cash in at the precise moment to successfully cash in. Stephanie Vaquer put herself into the title picture when she earned a shot at a women's championship after winning the 20-woman battle royal. The match came down to the Chilean superstar and Lash Legend. The two were able to team up for a split second to get Nia Jax out of the way. Legend turned her attention to Vaquer and tried to get the upper hand quickly. Vaquer and Legend moved to the apron. Vaquer wrapped her legs around Legend's head and performed the Devil's Kiss. Legend then rolled onto the floor and was eliminated from the match. Other participants included Nikki Bella, Jaida Parker, Ivy Nile, Nattie, Maxxine Dupri, Giulia, Zelina Vega, Izzi Dame, Tatum Paxley, Lola Vice, Kelani Jordan, Candice LeRae, Chelsea Green, Piper Niven, Alba Fyre, Mia Yim and B-Fab. Vaquer will now have a women's championship match at Clash in Paris on Aug. 31 – just weeks after SummerSlam. Earlier, Tiffany Stratton overcame a challenge from WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. It was a dream match for Stratton as she chose Stratus to be her opponent for the all-female premium live event. Stratton unloaded an array of moves on Stratus, including a suplex that ended with Stratus hitting Stratton's knees. She hit the Prettiest Moonsault Ever to end the match and successfully defended her title for the seventh time. Meanwhile, four other women's champions successfully defended their titles. Becky Lynch overcame Lyra Valkyria and Bayley to retain the Women's Intercontinental Championship in what was possibly the match of the night. Jacy Jayne retained the NXT Women's Championship over Jordynne Grace. Blake Monroe hit Grace in the back with the title to help give Jayne the win. Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez teamed up for the first time and successfully defended the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship against three other teams – Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, Sol Ruca and Zaria, and Asuka and Kairi Sane. WWE Evolution 2025 Results, Charlotte Flair Posts Timely Message After PLE
FAIRBORN, OHIO - MAY 9: Charlotte Flair speaks during SmackDown at Nutter Center on May 9, 2025 in ... More Fairborn, Ohio. (Photo by Michael Marques/WWE via Getty Images) Naomi owned an absolutely amazing night of professional wrestling at WWE Evolution in Atlanta, and long-time friend Charlotte Flair acknowledged her. In case you missed it, Naomi lost to Jade Cargill in a No Holds Barred match but cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase and became the Women's World Heavyweight Champion to crash a classic main event between Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky. After Naomi's big night, tributes and love poured in online, but perhaps most notably, Charlotte took to social media and posted a simple but statement-making image of the new champion. Pictures are said to be worth a thousand words, and this is an example. Almost everyone in the wrestling community chimed in to congratulate the new champion, who has been one of the most consistent performers in WWE over the past decade-plus. Naomi hasn't held a top-level singles title in WWE since 2013, but despite the long drought between singles gold, she holds quite a few important distinctions. Pro wrestling content creator Joey Karni pointed out Naomi's cross-promotional championship record. In addition to achieving top-level status with two different promotions, Naomi also became the first Black woman to win the Money in the Bank match and to successfully cash in the briefcase. Naomi had performed in four other MITB matches. Ember Moon and Sasha Banks/Mercedes Moné have been in MITB matches, but neither won. Charlotte and Naomi go way back in pro wrestling and WWE. Naomi began her in-ring career in 2009, while Charlotte started in 2012. Charlotte's place as a second-generation talent after her iconic father Ric Flair was never really in doubt. She worked hard to become arguably the greatest women's wrestler ever, but Naomi's road to her current spot has been more arduous. At the outset of her run with WWE, Naomi was reduced to less significant roles with the company. She was a Funkadactyl, which was essentially a backup dancer for Brodus Clay, a male professional wrestler who was signed with WWE at the time. Naomi battled to become an in-ring performer, then a singles performer and title contender. She and Sasha Banks rose to become WWE Women's Tag Team Champions but became frustrated with their situation, and they walked out of WWE on May 16, 2022, during a live taping of Monday Night Raw in Norfolk, Virginia. According to reports and WWE's own statement, they were scheduled to participate in a Six-Pack Challenge to determine the next challenger for the Raw Women's Championship. Citing creative differences and concerns over how they and the titles were being booked, they left their tag belts on John Laurinaitis' desk and walked out before the match aired. WWE released a public statement during the live broadcast. WWE announcer Michael Cole said, 'Naomi and Sasha had let us all down.' Both were suspended indefinitely just days later. Their merchandise was pulled from WWE Shop, and the Women's Tag Titles were vacated. Banks wound up going to New Japan Pro Wrestling before settling in as one of the biggest names with All Elite Wrestling. Naomi landed with Impact Wrestling, performing under her given name, Trinity Fatu, but she returned to WWE in 2024. Both women bet on themselves, and it seems clear they are winning. It says something when a peer and fellow legend like Charlotte gives public praise. Congratulations to Trinity for reaching the top of her industry. Seth Rollins injury update: Paul 'Triple H' Levesque says WWE star 'doesn't look good'
The early prognosis for Seth Rollins' injury: "Doesn't look good." WWE chief content officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque addressed Rollins' injury during his press conference following Evolution. He said it's "a little bit inconclusive" of what injury Rollins suffered on Saturday, July 13, but the outlook is not good. Levesque expects to get an answer on Monday, July 14 when Rollins sees a doctor. Advertisement "Will get an MRI and hope for the best," Levesque said. "See where we can go with that." What happened to Seth Rollins? It's a gloomy update one day after Rollins appeared to suffer a devastating injury during a televised match. Rollins faced LA Knight at Saturday Night's Main Event, and during the match he attempted a moonsault in the ring and his knee buckled. He immediately went down and grabbed his knee as he backed into the corner of the ring, with the referee and Paul Heyman checking in on him. A ringside doctor eventually came and talked with Rollins. After the brief discussion, Rollins got back to his feet and LA Knight hit the BFT to set up the pin for the win. It came off as a quick adjustment to the ending. After the match, people inside the arena took video of Rollins getting help leaving the ring, and one video on social media showed Rollins' clearly frustrated, with the wrestler barking expletives as he was assisted. Advertisement reported the finish to Rollins and LA Knight was changed when Rollins was hurt, as he was set to win the match. The severity is unknown, but Rollins' injury is real and not part of a story. While the extent of Rollins' injury is still unavailable, it likely is a major injury for "The Visionary" and could potentially mean some big changes to storylines. Rollins is Mr. Money in the Bank, able to cash it in for a championship opportunity at any time, and there was speculation he would do it at Saturday Night's Main Event. Plus, he is still riding the momentum of his WrestleMania 41 victory, and was leading a stable with Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed and Heyman. The menacing group was also involved in storylines with Jey Uso, Sami Zayn and Penta. Seth Rollins injury history: Constant knee injuries The injury is just the latest one to affect Rollins' knee, as its something that's plagued his WWE career. Advertisement In November 2015, Rollins tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL) and meniscus in his right knee during a live event in Ireland. He required surgery, and was forced to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Champion as he missed seven months. Rollins then re-tore the MCL in the same knee in January 2017, but didn't miss much time. He tore the meniscus in his left knee in January 2024. Even though he was injured, Rollins still appeared in WWE as World Heavyweight Champion while taking part in the build-up to WrestleMania 40. He wrestled both nights of the event despite the injury, and was instrumental in the Cody Rhodes vs. The Rock and Roman Reigns storyline. He missed two months of action following the event.
