WNBA star 'sick to my stomach' after finding out she'd been traded
Smith, a native of Converse, Texas who attended Baylor University, is being moved on from the Dallas Wings.
Earlier in the day, she was moved to the Las Vegas Aces in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2027 WNBA Draft.
Smith had been struggling in Dallas - averaging 6.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists so far this season. Nevertheless, the trade came as a complete surprise to a player who had been moved to the team as part of a three-way deal to move Sophia Cunningham to the Indiana Fever.
Smith, the player the Fever gave up to complete the deal, revealed her heartbreak on Monday after hearing of the move.

The move came as a surprise to Smith, who moved to the team from Indiana this offseason
While the move does come as a surprise and does move her away from her hometown, Smith does get traded to a bonafide WNBA title contender - something that the Wings are decidedly not.
Plus, the move could rejuvenate a player who was averaging career lows in points, rebounds, and minutes.
In Indiana, Smith was a consistent double-figure scorer and averaged almost eight rebounds.
Her production dropped slightly after the Fever drafted guard Caitlin Clark. It fell further in Dallas this year when the Wings selected Paige Bueckers.
Smith was picked second overall by Indiana in 2022 and made the WNBA All-Rookie first-team.
Now, she's off to a perennial contender in the Aces - who won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023.

Adolis Garcia leads 14-hit attack as Rangers thrash O's
July 2 - Adolis Garcia had three hits and drove in four to back six solid innings from ace Jacob deGrom as the Texas Rangers walloped the Baltimore Orioles 10-2 on Tuesday in the middle game of a three-game series in Arlington, Texas. Alejandro Osuna hit his first career home run, Corey Seager and Jonah Heim added two hits each and Marcus Semien scored three times as the Rangers evened the series and snapped a two-game losing streak. Texas outhit the Orioles 14-7. deGrom (9-2) was not as dominant as he was on June 25 when he carried a no-hitter into the eighth against Baltimore, but he was still very good. deGrom allowed two runs on five hits over six innings while walking one and striking out six to win his fifth straight decision. Jacob Latz pitched the final three innings to earn the first save of his career. Brandon Young (0-3) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks in four innings for the Orioles. He struck out four. Ramon Urias had two hits and Gary Sanchez had a two-run homer to lead Baltimore's offense. The Rangers struck first with three runs in the third. Sam Haggerty and Josh Smith singled to open the frame and Marcus Semien walked with one out to load the bases. Garcia followed with a single to center that scored Haggerty and Smith. One out later, Heim singled home Semien to give deGrom a three-run cushion. Baltimore pared its deficit to 3-2 in the fourth when Sanchez belted a homer that enabled Gunnar Henderson, who singled, to score in front of him. Texas got those runs back in the fifth when the 22-year-old Osuna ripped a two-out, two-run homer to right off Orioles reliever Matt Bowman. Astros concerned after Yordan Alvarez (hand) has setback
July 2 - Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez experienced a setback with his fractured right hand and will see a specialist, general manager Dana Brown told reporters prior to Tuesday's road game against the Colorado Rockies. Brown said Alvarez will see the specialist on Wednesday. Alvarez has missed two months due to the injury. He took batting practice in Houston on Saturday and reported to West Palm Beach, Fla., on Sunday for the next step in his rehab, but that plan has changed after taking dry swings with a bat on Monday and reporting soreness in the hand on Tuesday. "It's a tough pill to swallow, but at the end of the day his health is the most important thing here," Brown said. "And so, we'll let him take the time that he needs to get completely healed. At this point, the team is playing very well. We're 16 games over .500, we're six (games) up in the division, and so we'll take our time and let him continue to heal. "Hopefully it won't be much longer and we'll get some good news in the next 48 hours." The setback comes at a time when the Astros assumed their main power source was making swift progress and close to rejoining the squad. "We felt like he was close because he had felt so good of late," Brown said. "And so this is certainly news that we didn't want." Alvarez, 28, last played on May 2. He is batting just .210 with three homers and 18 RBIs in 29 games this season. The three-time All-Star topped 30 homers in each of the previous four campaigns and owns a career slugging percentage of .573.
