Great news for petrol prices in South Africa next month
While the petrol price is set to drop, the diesel price will hit South Africa's motorists harder in the pocket should market conditions remain the same for the next week and a half.
Below, the latest projections as received by The South African website from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), effective Wednesday, 23 July. FUEL PRICE CHANGE Petrol 93 decrease of 32 cents Petrol 95 decrease of 28 cents Diesel 0.05% increase of 66 cents Diesel 0.005% increase of 64 cents Illuminating Paraffin increase of 30 cents
If the market conditions were to remain consistent for the remainder of the month – an unlikely scenario with the rand/dollar exchange rate fluctuating and the oil price ever changing – a decrease of 32 cents is expected for petrol 93 octane motorists and a decrease of 28 cents for 95 users.
Meanwhile, diesel motorists would see something between a 64 and 66 cents per litre increase.
Finally, illuminating paraffin is expected to rise by 30 cents in price. FUEL PRICE IN SOUTH AFRICA IMPACTED BY TWO MAIN FACTORS:
1. The international price of petroleum products, driven mainly by oil prices
2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products
Oil price
At the time of publishing the brent crude oil price is $69.06 a barrel.
Exchange rate
At the time of publishing the rand/dollar exchange rate is R17.60/$.
The final overall price changes for both petrol and diesel will be confirmed early next month with the new prices taking effect at midnight on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.
Go easy on the accelerator until then, Mzansi. INLAND July Petrol 93 R21.79 Petrol 95 R21.87 Diesel 0.05% R19.35 Diesel 0.005% R19.41 Illuminating Paraffin R13.16 COASTAL July Petrol 93 R21.00 Petrol 95 R21.04 Diesel 0.05% R18.52 Diesel 0.005% R18.65 Illuminating Paraffin R12.14

Family carries coffin into KZN bank to protest delayed funeral payout
A grieving family brought a dead body in a coffin into Capitec Bank at KwaDukuza Mall on Tuesday in protest over an alleged funeral insurance payout delay. North Coast Courier reports that, according to the family, they filed the claim last Wednesday and were initially told payment would be processed within 48 hours. They were later informed funds would only be available by August 22, nearly a month later. Feeling helpless, the family made the drastic decision to take the deceased to the bank to highlight the emotional and financial burden caused by the delay. The incident shocked shoppers and staff, drawing concern and sympathy from onlookers. A 43-year-old woman, sister of the 25-year-old deceased, expressed deep disappointment in the bank. 'We have to bury my sister this Saturday. Since they say they will only pay on the 22nd of next month, we brought her body to prove she has passed. I am worried because my whole family is insured with this bank.' This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in KwaDukuza. In 2019, a family from Madundube took a body to an Old Mutual branch under similar circumstances. Old Mutual said the claim had already been processed but acknowledged delays and apologised. KwaDukuza Mall management distanced itself from the matter. 'This was a private dispute between the family and Capitec Bank, which is an independent tenant operating within the mall premises,' said mall manager Siyabonga Tembe. Capitec Bank had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publishing. Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel. Fuel forecast brings both relief and pressure for Pretoria drivers
Fuel forecast brings both relief and pressure for Pretoria drivers Pretoria motorists are in for a mixed fuel price adjustment next week, with the latest month-end data from the Central Energy Fund pointing to both relief and strain at the pumps. While a decrease in one fuel type may offer some breathing room, a notable hike in another is set to hit drivers' pockets. The official fuel price changes will be confirmed in the coming days. The official price adjustments will be announced before the prices take effect next week; the recovery balances for the month are unlikely to change drastically. These are the recoveries at the end of July: Petrol 93: decrease of 35 cents per litre Petrol 95: decrease of 30 cents per litre Diesel 0.05% (wholesale): increase of 65 cents per litre Diesel 0.005% (wholesale): increase of 63 cents per litre Illuminating paraffin: increase of 29 cents per litre It should be emphasised that the final adjustments in fuel prices will only be announced later this week or early next week.
