Great news for petrol prices in South Africa next month
While the petrol price is set to drop, the diesel price will hit South Africa's motorists harder in the pocket should market conditions remain the same for the next week and a half.
Below, the latest projections as received by The South African website from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), effective Wednesday, 23 July. FUEL PRICE CHANGE Petrol 93 decrease of 32 cents Petrol 95 decrease of 28 cents Diesel 0.05% increase of 66 cents Diesel 0.005% increase of 64 cents Illuminating Paraffin increase of 30 cents
If the market conditions were to remain consistent for the remainder of the month – an unlikely scenario with the rand/dollar exchange rate fluctuating and the oil price ever changing – a decrease of 32 cents is expected for petrol 93 octane motorists and a decrease of 28 cents for 95 users.
Meanwhile, diesel motorists would see something between a 64 and 66 cents per litre increase.
Finally, illuminating paraffin is expected to rise by 30 cents in price. FUEL PRICE IN SOUTH AFRICA IMPACTED BY TWO MAIN FACTORS:
1. The international price of petroleum products, driven mainly by oil prices
2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products

Exchange rate
At the time of publishing the rand/dollar exchange rate is R17.60/$.
The final overall price changes for both petrol and diesel will be confirmed early next month with the new prices taking effect at midnight on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.

A grieving family brought a dead body in a coffin into Capitec Bank at KwaDukuza Mall on Tuesday in protest over an alleged funeral insurance payout delay. North Coast Courier reports that, according to the family, they filed the claim last Wednesday and were initially told payment would be processed within 48 hours. They were later informed funds would only be available by August 22, nearly a month later. Feeling helpless, the family made the drastic decision to take the deceased to the bank to highlight the emotional and financial burden caused by the delay. I am worried because my whole family is insured with this bank.' This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in KwaDukuza. In 2019, a family from Madundube took a body to an Old Mutual branch under similar circumstances. Old Mutual said the claim had already been processed but acknowledged delays and apologised. KwaDukuza Mall management distanced itself from the matter. 'This was a private dispute between the family and Capitec Bank, which is an independent tenant operating within the mall premises,' said mall manager Siyabonga Tembe. R12 million for road projects in Driefontein and Acaciavale
Mayor Zama Sibisi yesterday (July 29) introduced a contractor for the Malva Road project in Ward 20, Acaciavale, under Alfred Duma Local Municipality. Sihlahlasiyahluma Construction (Pty) Ltd was announced as the contractor at an event that was held near the Acaciavale Community Clinic. R6 million has been allocated for the job, which is estimated to take about six months to complete. The project will create approximately 14 job opportunities for local residents. Also read: Municipality improves informal trading conditions in town Another project was launched in Ward 19, Driefontein, where Muntuza Engineering was announced as the contractor for the Mhlwaneni Road upgrade. Similarly budgeted at R6 million and scheduled for completion within six months, this project aims to significantly improve road quality and accessibility in the area. It is anticipated to generate 15 job opportunities for locals. The projects are funded by the Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA). Sibisi emphasised the critical role these infrastructure upgrades will play in improving residents' daily lives by providing better access to essential services and boosting local economic activity. In closing, the mayor called on all community members to fully co-operate during the construction phase of these projects.
