One day of Lok Adalat and collection of Rs 13.92 lakh as fines from traffic violators in Panchkula
According to DCP (Crime and Traffic) Amit Dahiya, police have been targeting not only routine traffic violators but also vehicles suspected to be linked with criminal activities, and the campaign has focused on serious infractions such as driving without registration certificates (RCs), missing or tampered number plates, traffic signal violations, and triple riding.
The DCP highlighted that many recent theft and snatching cases involved offenders using vehicles with no or altered number plates, resulting in 6,729 challans in the first six months of this year — nearly three times more than the 2,292 issued during the same period last year.
There was a spike in challans too of those driving without a registration certificate (RC), with 1,339 challans issued this year compared to just 120 last year. Traffic signal violations doubled from 170 to 339, while triple riding offenses surged nearly fivefold — from 411 last year to 2,082 this year.
Dahiya stated that the increased focus on these violations is part of a strategic approach to deter crime and improve public safety. 'These infractions are often linked with criminal activity. Our enhanced enforcement is already showing results in both crime control and traffic discipline,' he said.
To strengthen surveillance, the police are also increasing the number of CCTV cameras across Panchkula. These cameras also assist in identifying offenders and enable faster digital issuance of challans.
Meanwhile, the Challaning Branch in Sector 12, Panchkula, has urged citizens who paid fines during the Lok Adalat to submit their cash receipts at the branch office to complete the formal process.

Jagan Reddy Named Kickback Recipient In Andhra Liquor Scam Chargesheet
The Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed a 305-page preliminary chargesheet in the alleged Rs 3,500 crore liquor scam, elaborating on what it calls a syndicate and revealing details about an alleged complex network of kickbacks and policy manipulation during the previous YSRCP regime (2019-2024). While the chargesheet, submitted to a local court on Saturday, refrains from formally naming former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as an accused, it explicitly identifies him as a recipient of alleged monthly kickbacks. The document claims that on average, Rs 50-60 crore was collected every month and eventually transferred to the former Chief Minister through a chain of individuals, including key aides and party leaders. This claim is reportedly corroborated by a witness. According to the chargesheet, Kesireddy Rajasekhar Reddy (A-1) has been named as the "mastermind and co-conspirator" behind the entire operation. He is accused of manipulating excise policy, replacing automated "Order for Supply" (OFS) systems with manual processes, and strategically placing loyalists within the Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL). The alleged intent behind these changes was to gain full control over the supply and sale of liquor, thereby enabling the collection of substantial commissions and kickbacks. The SIT's investigation suggests that the new liquor policy was designed to ensure large kickbacks, with a significant portion received in cash and gold. A meeting of distillery owners in Hyderabad in late 2019, allegedly orchestrated by Sajjala Sridhar Reddy (A-6), reportedly saw intimidation tactics used, with owners being threatened with no orders if they did not comply with the proposals for kickbacks. The chargesheet details how the collected amounts were allegedly handed over to Kesireddy Rajasekhar Reddy, who then passed the money to individuals like Vijay Sai Reddy (A-5), Mithun Reddy (A-4), and Balaji (A-33) before it reached the former Chief Minister. Furthermore, the chargesheet alleges that Rs 250-300 crore was routed in cash for YSRCP election expenses, coordinated by Rajasekhar Reddy and former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. This laundered money was reportedly invested in land, gold, and luxury assets in Dubai and Africa through over 30 shell firms. The SIT has so far arrested 12 individuals in connection with the case, including YSRCP Lok Sabha member PV Midhun Reddy, who was arrested after extensive questioning. The investigating agency has seized assets worth Rs 62 crore and examined 268 witnesses, recording statements from 11 individuals. The CID has indicated that a more detailed chargesheet will be filed within 20 days, as the investigation remains ongoing. The YSRCP, however, has dismissed the entire case as a "manufactured narrative," asserting that it is built on statements extracted under duress, threats, and through inducements, designed purely for "media theatrics" and to divert attention from other issues. The court is yet to take cognizance of the chargesheet.

CBI arrests proclaimed offender from Bengaluru after six years
New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) The CBI has arrested a woman named Nasreen Taj, a proclaimed offender in an alleged bank fraud case, who vanished like a phantom into the sprawling cityscape of Bengaluru for nearly six years under an assumed identity, officials said on Monday. Bringing a dramatic close to the pursuit, the CBI arrested Nasreen from Bengaluru, who was living there under the name of Salma after severing contact with her spouse, family members, and social network, frequently changing residences, they said. 'She misled the residents as well as her employer about her real identity and maintained minimal interaction with locals, further hindering the efforts to trace her," a CBI spokesperson said in a statement. After a year-long investigation, the CBI submitted its chargesheet on October 12, 2010, accusing Nasreen of acting in collusion with her husband, Asadullah Khan, who was part of a conspiracy involving eight other accused to cheat Syndicate Bank to the tune of Rs 12.63 crore. The investigation revealed that Nasreen, despite having no independent income, fraudulently availed of a temporary overdraft (TOD) facility of up to Rs 1.20 crore, in addition to farm loans amounting to Rs 55 lakh, from Syndicate Bank. The CBI alleged that the farm loans were illicitly diverted by her towards the repayment of the TOD, instead of utilising them for agricultural development, as mandated under the terms of the sanction. The agency alleged that Nasreen did not join the investigation, prompting the court to declare her a proclaimed offender on November 27, 2021, and attach her property. 'She failed to join the trial or respond to summons and warrants and was untraceable since 2019. Multiple non-bailable warrants were issued against her since April 30, 2019," the spokesperson said. While the other co-accused were tried, convicted, and acquitted in the case, the trial against the absconding accused remained pending, she said. Deploying advanced technological tools and identity-tracking databases, the investigators analysed her digital footprints, she said. Using tech-driven intelligence, combined with extensive field investigations and on-the-ground inquiries, the CBI located her in Bengaluru, where she was living under the assumed name of Salma. Nasreen was arrested on July 19 and produced before a special court in Bengaluru, which sent her to judicial custody for facing the trial.
