Pixel 10 release date, Galaxy S25 FE charging and renders arrive, Week 29 in review

GSM Arena13 hours ago
Welcome to your week's recap. The Galaxy S26 FE will get 45W charging. We also saw the phone's first renders, albeit low-res ones. Its design is likely to remain nearly identical for yet another year.
The camera hardware of the upcoming Galaxy S26 series was tipped. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature a 200MP main camera, potentially paired with a larger 1/1.1-inch Sony sensor. Next is a 50MP 5x zoom. The Galaxy S26 Edge will feature a 50MP ultrawide camera (possibly also on the Ultra model). The Galaxy S26 may keep the same old camera system.
We also get their codenames.
There's no word from Samsung yet about their launch.
Samsung giveth with one hand, and taketh away with the other.
Apple could announce the iPhone 17 series in the week starting on September 8. Meanwhile, Google confirmed that it will unveil the Pixel 10 series on August 20.
Honor announced the X70 in China. The phone's highlight is the massive 8,300mAh battery!
You probably guessed September already, but when exactly in September?
As usual with Google-related things, the rumors were correct.
The phone is also rugged and can withstand drops from 2.5 meters and 10+ types of stone abuse!
The tablet is currently on pre-order. It has 8 IMAX Enhanced speakers and a 10,100mAh battery.
It seems Sony is downscaling its smartphone business in Europe. In non-related news, Sony has announced an Xperia 1 VII replacement program for units with faulty circuit boards.
Certain Xperia 1 VII units have a faulty circuit board, resulting in reboots, shutdowns, and inability to power on.
Sony's smartphone branch is seemingly leaving the Finnish market and focusing on online shopping channels instead.
The new addition to the WH-1000XMX series remains among the best ANC over-ear headphones available.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7's price could jump from $2,000 to $3,500 like that

Two weeks after its unveiling, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 by Samsung is still the talk of town. It's only natural: Sammy's latest foldable flagship is thin (in fact, it's the thinnest Galaxy foldable to date), sleek and capable. It's also expensive at $2,000… and we, the people, like to talk about expensive stuff every now and we can debate whether the $2,000 price tag on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is justified or not, it turns out that this folding bijou can cost you $3,500 – and that's not some special, limited edition device that I'm talking about. Image by PhoneArena If you're the kind of person who often drops things on the floor – and if the floor beneath you is a rough, concrete one – well, you might be in trouble. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 screen replacement prices have been revealed, and it's not pretty. We all know that foldable display panels are costly, but if you're eyeing Samsung's latest foldable monster, it's worth understanding the potential replacement costs… should the screen ever need repair. Let's hope it doesn't come to this, components for these devices come with high price tags, and paying out of pocket can feel impractical, especially given how quickly smartphones lose value over time. Yes, even foldables tend to do that! According to a parts supplier in the EU that provides genuine Samsung components, a replacement foldable panel for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is priced at €761 (about $890 when directly converted), while the smaller cover display costs €525 (about $611 when directly converted). So, if you somehow manage to crack both your inner and outer displays – and I'm sure that many among us will have no problem achieving this – it would cost you another $1,501 on top of the hefty $2,000 price tag. That equates to $3,500: the moral of the story is to be very, very careful with your foldable. With you non-foldable phone as well, since we're at it. For the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the foldable panel is listed at €342 (~$400 when directly converted), and the Flex Window cover display is €207 (~$240 when directly converted). These figures do not include labor costs if the repair is carried out by a third-party service provider. Samsung's standard warranty does not cover screen replacements, as accidental damage is excluded. This is why many customers opt for Samsung Care+, an optional protection plan that offers coverage for accidental damage. For the Galaxy Z Fold 7 , Samsung Care+ costs $13 per month or $259 per year and includes unlimited same-day repairs for cracked screens or back glass at $29 per service. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is covered at $10 per month or $169 per year. You do the math.

If you want this AT&T plan, you might have to buy more than you planned

Phone carriers love to upsell – new lines, fancy perks, random add-ons – most of which, of course, come with a price. And sometimes, customers don't even realize something extra was added until the bill lands. We have seen these kinds of complaints aimed at all three of the major carriers – T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T. But now, it looks like AT&T is turning up the pressure to push even more add-ons and new services. Retail employees are sounding the alarm online, sharing a new frustration. Apparently, many are being told not to sell AT&T 's 55+ plan unless the customer is also adding a new line or signing up for internet service. So yeah, if this is true, it could suddenly become a lot harder for people over 55 to just get the plan they actually want – without any strings attached. – Adventurous-Way3514, Reddit, July 2025 And it turns out, this wasn't a one-off case. A bunch of other retail reps from across the country chimed in with similar stories, suggesting this might actually be a company-wide push. – CrewPrevious705, Reddit, July 2025 – PuzzleheadedNeck4476, Reddit, July 2025 So what is the deal with this plan anyway? AT&T 's 55+ plan isn't exactly dirt cheap – it typically runs $60 for a single line or $55 per line if you get two. Right now, though, there is a pretty solid promo that knocks it down to $40 for one line and $35 per line if you go for two. And that discount may have made the plan more attractive, which could be why stores are being told to push harder for additional sales – or just stop offering it solo altogether. – OniLordLoOpy, Reddit, July 2025 That said, not every store is seeing this kind of pressure. A few reps say their leadership hasn't changed how they sell the 55+ plan and still offer it without extra requirements. For those who don't know, the AT&T 55+ plan comes with: Unlimited talk, text and data in the US, Canada, and Mexico The AT&T ActiveArmor security app ActiveArmor security app 10 GB of hotspot data per line per month SD streaming It is not flashy, but it is more than enough for most people and it is AT&T 's most affordable option per line, even before the discount. But if you suddenly have to tack on a new line or internet just to qualify? That changes the value of the deal completely. So why would AT&T be pushing this? Well, some think the company just didn't expect this many people to jump on it. –Taenurri, Reddit, July 2025 So yeah, if you are thinking about signing up for AT&T 's 55+ plan, just be aware that there is a good chance the store rep might try to throw in some extra services or features you never asked for. It is one of those annoying upsell tactics that can catch you off guard, especially if you are not paying close attention. It is frustrating, but not new – customers have run into this kind of upselling with all the big carriers. If you are still exploring your options and want to compare what each carrier has to offer – whether it is plans for seniors, family bundles or perks that actually match your needs – be sure to check out our detailed carrier guides anytime: We've reached out to AT&T for a comment and will update this story once we hear back.
