Dedicated Corridor of Confusion
Amidst videos being circulated on social media about police slapping fines on vehicles entering the now defunct BRTS lane, authorities say that traffic police were indeed stopping private vehicles attempting to use the 'dedicated lane' only to ask them to avoid it.
They clarified that there was no official ban on the use of BRTS corridor but traffic violations committed while using it can still attract fines.
The High Court had in Feb ordered dismantling of BRTS corridor, a decision welcomed by Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), Mayor, and local public representatives.
Within days of the order, IMC began removing railings along approximately half a kilometre of the 11.5 km corridor, from GPO Square towards Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. IMC has yet to award a contract for complete dismantling of the corridor, which includes removal of remaining railings, concrete plinths, and bus stops.
Currently, Atal Indore City Transport Services Limited (AICTSL) continues to operate its I-buses on BRTS corridor.

Simultaneously, traffic police, assisted by volunteers, are preventing private vehicles from using this 'dedicated lane' without any explicit official order.
DCP (Traffic) Arvind Tiwari clarified the situation: "We are not slapping fines on private vehicles specifically for using BRTS corridor, but for violations like jumping signals or rash driving."
He said that the traffic signals for mixed-use lanes and BRTS corridor operate differently, leading to violations by private vehicles when attempting to enter or exit the dedicated lane.
The senior official further asserted that there was no way for a private vehicle to enter or exit BRTS corridor without violating traffic signals.
"At present, the BRTS corridor has no legal status as the court has already ordered its dismantling, while the dedicated lane was never officially notified, so it cannot be de-notified," Kishore Kodwani, one of the petitioners in the case that led to scrapping of BRTS, said.
He added that no commuter can be issued a challan for driving a private vehicle through the corridor unless there was a specific order from a competent authority, like Collector, under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava concurred with Kodwani's assessment. He acknowledged that while there was no explicit order prohibiting private vehicles from using BRTS corridor, people are currently 'discouraged' from doing so due to concerns about rash driving and other safety issues.
"Following the court order, we have invited tenders to dismantle the corridor and construct the median lane (divider). The tender for the median lane construction has been awarded, and the second tender is expected to be awarded soon," Bhargava said.
Collector Asheesh Singh could not be contacted for his comments on the issue.

11 deaths in 3 years: Why Pachgaon Chowk is one of Gurgaon most dangerous spots
Gurgaon: Traffic cops have identified 23 conflict points at Pachgaon Chowk, one of the city's most notorious blackspots that has witnessed 11 fatalities and 12 injuries in 19 accidents between 2021 and 2024. The traffic engineering centre has highlighted how the junction's complex layout, combining high-speed highway traffic with slow-moving local vehicles, creates a deadly mix. The most recent tragedy occurred on June 21, when a Delhi Police head constable died and five others were injured after a Rajasthan Roadways bus overturned while trying to avoid crashing into a car. The report, prepared under DCP (traffic) Rajesh Mohan's supervision, identifies the junction as particularly hazardous because of its location at the median gap of NH-8 and its intersection with the Western Peripheral Expressway. The area's mixed land use, with Panchgaon village on one side and undeveloped land on the other, further complicates traffic movement. You Can Also Check: Gurgaon AQI | Weather in Gurgaon | Bank Holidays in Gurgaon | Public Holidays in Gurgaon The study reveals 11 crossing conflicts, seven diverging conflicts, and five merging conflicts at the junction. Trucks, the report says, are a major cause of collisions at this location, involved in six of 9 fatal accidents in these three years. They often make U-turns towards Delhi and Ajmer to avoid a cloverleaf, using the median gap to save 1.2km and increasing the risk of collision with straight-moving traffic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your IQ Is 140 If You Can Answer 10 of These Questions Correctly. IQ International Undo Buses also lack an alternative entry to the village, frequently using the median gap. Bus stopping to pick up and drop passengers on the main carriageway also pose considerable risks, who are forced to cross the road against high-speed traffic. Another major concern is wrong-side movement of two-wheelers, accounting for 37% of traffic violations. Traffic from Pachgaon village and the Delhi side often moves against the flow, particularly towards Pukharpur. An underutilised underpass for pedestrians and two-wheelers, located 200 metres from the median gap, is often avoided because of its poor maintenance and difficult access. The report notes that 82% of Delhi-bound traffic moves straight, while 11% attempts U-turns, creating dangerous situations. The report proposes limiting the U-turns of trucks at the median gap by installing a 4-metre height barrier. It also advises extending the median on the service road by about 20 metres to minimise complicated manoeuvres. The report calls for shifting bus stops on both sides of the road about 70 metres towards Delhi, reducing pedestrians' walking distance to the underpass. To improve connectivity, the report recommends building a new road linking Pukharpur Road with a service lane near the underpass and constructing footpaths for pedestrians. The report emphasises that immediate action is crucial, as the junction continues to pose a severe risk to both highway users and local commuters. Officials said they would strictly impose challans against buses halting at wrong spots and vehicles making illegal U-turns.

Motorists fume as Telangana RTA drives up service charges
Hyderabad: Applicants attempting to book slots for various transactions at the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) woke up to a rude shock on Sunday as they found a sudden increase in charges across several services. The revision came into effect at 2 am. The new rate-card shows that RTA has revised fees anywhere from Rs 100 to Rs 1,000 — with a fourfold jump in rates for a no-objection certificate (NOC). Available for Rs 100 until now, every NOC will now cost a motorist Rs 435. The cost for terminating vehicle agreements for four-wheelers has also been substantially increased from Rs 2,135 to Rs 3,135. Even commonly availed costs, right from learners' licence to vehicle hypothecation, have been brought under the new price umbrella. Motorists applying for any licence will have to cough up an additional Rs 100. The only exemptions: Permits, vehicle fitness assessments, taxes on vehicles from other states, permit cancellations, life taxes, and quarterly taxes. You Can Also Check: Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad 10k applicants to be impacted This revision — brought in three years after a hike on life taxes — is likely to impact at least 10,000 daily applicants at all RTA offices across the state. In 2022, the Telangana govt had raised life taxes under the Telangana Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1963, with increases ranging from 9% to 19% based on vehicle cost and category. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2021 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo Many applicants, while ruing the sharp rise, also complained about the current revision being implemented surreptitiously without prior public announcement or notification. In fact, the RTA website: is yet to be updated with these new charges. Speaking to TOI, some said that they realised that the fees had been hiked only when they went to their RTA office to avail of a service. 'I tried to secure a learner's licence slot two days ago, when the fee displayed was Rs 450. However, I encountered technical issues and couldn't complete the booking. When I tried again on Sunday, I was surprised to see that the total amount had risen to Rs 550, with the service charge component having increased from Rs 100 to Rs 200,' said K Venkatesh, an applicant from Uppal. Move to increase revenue: RTA RTA officials said that the revision was aimed at enhancing revenue. 'Only service charges, which have remained unchanged for several years, have been increased. However, we need to monitor the situation for at least one month to assess how these increased charges contribute to revenue enhancement,' MM Chandrasekhar Goud, joint transport commissioner (IT & Vigilance), told TOI. Sources, on the other hand, hinted at the move being designed to accommodate tax exemptions being offered to EV buyers. Incidentally, since the Telangana govt implemented its EV policy on Nov 16, 2024, Rs 400 crore (approx) tax has been exempted through sales of more than 50,000 EVs. 'The govt's actions are unfair, as they offer complete tax relief to electric vehicles while parallelly raising service charges,' said M Dayanand, general secretary, Telangana Auto and Motor Welfare Union.'The facilities at their offices lack essential amenities for the public, and applicants are forced to wait in long queues for their turn. It is disappointing that despite these ongoing service deficiencies, the RTA has implemented increased service charges. I urge the govt authorities to reinstate the previous fee structure, in the interest of the public.'

Tour de France 2025 winner Stage 21 standings final results: Tadej Pogacar crowned 4th time for Yellow Jersey
Tadej Pogacar on Sunday won Tour de France 2025 in rainy Paris finale. Slovenian rider Pogačar bagged the Tour de France for the fourth time. Pogacar has won the iconic Yellow Jersey. Wout van Aert claimed victory in Stage 21, crossing the finish line first in a dramatic conclusion to the race. However, due to heavy rainfall and safety concerns on the cobbled Montmartre route, organizers neutralized the race timing with about 50 kilometers remaining. As a result, while van Aert's stage win stands, the overall general classification standings were locked in before the final laps—a decision that confirmed Tadej Pogačar as the winner of his fourth Tour de France title.
