Michael Palin says he's preparing for the end of his life in moving update

Sir Michael Palin says he has made preparations for the end of his life.
In a new interview, the Monty Python star spoke about his will and how his kids "know where to find what they need to find should I die".
The TV star has opened up about the devastating loss of his wife, Helen, who died in 2023, reports The Mirror.
Speaking about their romance and life together, he said: "Helen and I met on holiday in 1959. I was about 16 at the time. It was a holiday romance that built up to a long marriage. There was always a feeling that we were a unit – I hadn't really realised until that after she'd died.
"That was a difficult thing: there was half of your life gone. I still say, 'We've got in our garden...', 'We have two grandchildren...' although she's still here. I still use the 'we'. I find it almost impossible to say, 'I am...'."
In an interview for the On the Marie Curie Couch podcast, Michael explained that his wife had been in pain for years following a knee replacement before a "number of different things were diagnosed".
"She had some problems with her heart. The gradual withdrawal from life was something I think she found very, very difficult; she was a gregarious person and full of fun. In the end, she was diagnosed with kidney failure. Then she got pneumonia and we went into hospital. We had a pretty bad experience there," he explained. He said the care she had received at a Marie Curie hospice had made all the difference and that she was happier during her last few days than in the previous six years of her life.
Michael has three children with his late wife Helen - William, Rachel and Thomas. He admitted: "I do think about death and the family are rather wonderful about it: 'Have you made a will?' 'Can I be in your will?'
"I've made my will and all that. My family, my children, know where to find what they need to find should I die."
He insisted he doesn't dwell on mortality and lives for each day but admits he's "slightly unsteady" on his feet from time to time.
He said: "I'm 82 now, which is longer than any Palin male has lived for 200 years. I keep fit and I'm working, fortunately, and doing some quite difficult stuff, filming and all that.
"I kid myself that I'm going to be alright, and yet I know that I won't because you feel tired at certain times. You're slightly unsteady as you get out of bed, and you think, 'what's happening?' Well, the old car's getting a bit rusty."
Michael had open heart surgery back in 2019 and says the death of his wife Helen had helped the whole family look at death in a more direct way, something which he was discouraged from doing as a kid.

They captioned it with: "Today is our 10 year anniversary… & the beginning of something even more beautiful. "In a couple of weeks we are saying 'I do". "We can't wait for this next chapter…." Addressing fans in the video they revealed how it was Helen who popped the question. Chet said: "I was at the gym, and I get this phone call and she's like. 'Do you want to get married?' and I'm like, 'What do you mean do you want to get married?'" Helen added: "If anyone knows me, I always said 10 years and I'll decide if I want to get married or not." BABY JOY This latest happy news comes just weeks after the couple welcomed their fourth child, Honey, in June. They already have kids Ocean, Elvis, and Peach, but expanded their brood by one more. Announcing the news, Chet said: "She has done it again… the strongest, most beautiful woman I know just brought our fourth baby into the world. Ex On The Beach star reveals she's pregnant with fourth baby - two years after shock split with co-star and cheating claims "Watching you become a mother all over again has left me in complete awe. "You are a super mum & our family is whole because of you –and I couldn't be more proud or more in love. I love you so much." CHEATING SCANDAL Meanwhile, Helen and Chet previously shocked fans by announcing their split after eight years together. In 2023, Helen posted an explosive statement on Instagram accusing Chet of cheating, which he denied. They got back together shortly after, and during a Q&A on Instagram, one follower asked: "Are you and Chet back together?" 6 The couple have been together for ten years and went through a cheating scandal Credit: Instagram Helen said: "So this question gets asked a lot so I would only like to address this once. "I jumped the gun and put a statement without even reading between the lines. "Chet always denied the allegation and later down the line cleared his name. "Putting a statement out there was a hasty decision on my behalf, because the evidence I had was nil and void and led to me accusing Chet of something he actually didn't do. "I don't know why I let these trolls get to me and try and ruin my relationship. "Chet an I are working hard to get back on track for the sake of us as a couple and out family, and this is the last time I will speak on this matter." Chet and Helen got back together on series four of Ex On The Beach, which aired in 2016.

Davina McCall 'not afraid of dying' after brain tumour removed

Former Big Brother presenter Davina McCall has said she is "not afraid of dying" after she underwent an operation to remove a benign brain tumour. In April, the 57-year-old confirmed her "final MRI" had showed a colloid cyst, which she had removed in November 2024, is "not coming back", after it was found when she was offered a health check-up as part of her menopause advocacy work. McCall told Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast: "I am not afraid of dying anymore and it was the biggest journey of my life. From August 23 to November 24 was an amazing time where something changed. " Begin Again, the podcast I started to help other people on their journey of living a life that they love enough to feel on their deathbed, whenever that may be, that I have no regrets. "I have lived the life I wanted, and I'm not lying there going, 'I wish I'd done that thing, wish I'd done that job, I wish I'd not stayed in this relationship', all of those I haven't lived the life I want (things), and Begin Again is about just begin again and live the life you want." McCall, who is a judge on ITV singing show The Masked Singer, said her only concern about death is how her family would cope. Speaking about the time her tumour was found, she added: "I thought I need to get my brain in the right place and that was to a place where I could be calm, and what did I need to do to do that? Were my kids going to be okay if I didn't make it? That's all I really cared about. "I knew Michael (Douglas, her partner), Michael's a whole person, Michael's Michael, but I was really worried about my kids. "I went forensic on thinking about my children and where they were at in their life, what stage they were at. You're only as happy as your unhappiest child, right? "I came to a realisation after about six months of cross-examining them about their life and telling them the whole time how much I've loved my life. My eldest daughter kept caught on. She was like, 'you are not dying', I was like, 'no, no, no', I realised that they would be great. "They'd miss me and I want to be with them but they would be okay. I felt like I could go to sleep on the operating table and know that they were all here to help me, but I can let go of the outcome and it was the best gift. I am not afraid of dying." After her surgery, McCall spent time in intensive care before recovering at home with the help of Douglas. She spoke about the removal of the tumour while co-presenting this year's Red Nose Day for Comic Relief and said it was "the hardest thing I've ever been through". According to the NHS, non-cancerous brain tumours are more common in people over the age of 50, and symptoms include headaches, vision problems and drowsiness, and some can be "difficult to remove without damaging surrounding tissue". McCall, the host of reality dating show My Mum, Your Dad, has long advocated for women's health issues, and has presented a documentary called Sex, Myths And The Menopause and another on contraception called Davina McCall's Pill Revolution. The full interview can be listened to on the Happy Place with Fearne Cotton podcast.
