Tenant Farmers in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam struggle to obtain CCRCs
SRIKAKULAM: The fate of tenant farmers remains unchanged as Crop Cultivators' Rights Cards (CCRCs) are still not being issued to all eligible individuals. The requirement for written agreements continues to hinder tenant farmers' access to land, as most landowners are unwilling to execute such agreements.
The CCRC is vital for tenant farmers to access subsidised seeds and manure, avail crop insurance, receive compensation in the event of crop loss due to calamities, and obtain loans from banks through a simplified process. The previous YSRCP government passed the Crop Cultivators' Rights Act (CCRA) in 2019, which made a written agreement a prerequisite for the issuance of CCRCs.
Due to the lack of written agreements, only a limited number of tenant farmers have received CCRCs. In Srikakulam district, just 223 CCRCs have been issued; in Parvathipuram Manyam, 300; and in Vizianagaram, only 73. 'We can issue CCRCs to tenant farmers only after receiving written consent from the landowner, as per the CCR Act 2019,' said Joint Director for Agriculture (JD-A) K. Trinadha Swamy to TNIE. 'Most landowners are unwilling to provide such consent, so we are unable to issue CCRCs to all tenant farmers,' he added.

Describing Jagan's rule as a 'dark era' for the state, the minister accused the former CM of harassing major companies like Amara Raja and Kia Motors for commissions, which hurt the state's industrial growth. He also alleged that the SC, ST, and BC communities were severely neglected, with no loans sanctioned and 26 welfare schemes meant for SCs being scrapped. Subhash stated that the people of Andhra Pradesh rejected Jagan's misrule, which is evident from the fact that his party was reduced to just 11 Assembly seats in the recent elections. He said that despite this clear verdict, Jagan has not learned any lessons. Criticising the YSRCP's newly launched campaign under the banner of 'Recall Chandrababu Manifesto', the minister called it shameful and absurd. He added that YSRCP leaders are unable to accept the ongoing development and welfare initiatives being successfully implemented by the new government. The minister concluded that people have entrusted Chandrababu Naidu with the responsibility of rebuilding the state and that such recall campaigns only show YSRCP's inability to face reality.

Narayana vows safe drinking water across all civic bodies
Vijayawada: Municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana said the state government is determined to provide safe drinking water to households across all municipalities. Addressing the media after a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at CM camp office on Saturday, the minister stated that tenders have been invited for laying drinking water pipelines to cover 85 per cent of households, with support from the AMRUT scheme. He said Rs 5,350 crore, sanctioned by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, will be used for completing both drinking water and drainage projects. Blaming the previous YSRCP government for lapses in securing Central funds due to failure in releasing the state's share, Narayana stressed the new government's commitment to infrastructure development. On the solid waste issue, the minister said Andhra Pradesh generates 8,000 tonnes of waste daily. While waste-to-energy plants are already operational in Guntur and Visakhapatnam, six new plants are planned in Rajahmundry, Nellore, Kadapa, Kurnool, Vijayawada, and Tirupati. Once operational, they can convert up to 7,500 tonnes of garbage into power. An allocation of Rs 225 crore has been made for new garbage clearing equipment. He also said the government is working to distribute TIDCO houses by clearing Rs 140 crore in pending bank loans for the beneficiaries.

PM Modi lauds PV Narasimha Rao's role in India's economic development

Meanwhile, grand celebrations were organised at the PV Gyan Bhoomi to mark the birth anniversary of Narasimha Rao. Deputy Chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, BJP MPs Dr K Laxman, DK Aruna, Eatela Rajender, among several others paid tributes at the former PM's memorial. Bhatti Vikramarka stated that Narasimha Rao was a social reformer who laid the foundations for an egalitarian society by implementing land reforms in the state as chief minister, following the initiatives of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. 'It is a matter of great pride that the former prime minister, Bharat Ratna awardee, and architect of economic reforms was born in our state,' Vikramarka said. Speaking to TNIE, PV Narasimha Rao's grandson and senior BJP leader N V Subhash said that his grandfather was a true statesman. He said that although the Congress wanted to reduce his grandfather to the level of a state leader, Prime Minister Modi honoured him with the Bharat Ratna. He said that his grandfather never craved for any political identity, and proved that a person from the middle class could also become chief minister and prime minister in this country.
