Yankees Named 'Dream Landing Spot' for Guardians Superstar Jose Ramirez Trade
The New York Yankees are in the midst of a surprising slump after performing as one of the best offensive teams in all of baseball this year.
After another defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, the Yankees have suffered three-straight shutout losses for the first time since 2016. Now the team is left to search for answers at the plate from stars like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, but with the trade deadline looming just a few weeks away, an external candidate could come into play as well.
Offensively, the Yankees seem most likely to look for a right-handed bat to add to their offensive, particularly one who can bring a boost to their infield.
"The Yankees are aggressively searching for a right-handed bat, preferably a third baseman, while also looking for another starter," Bob Nightengale wrote for USA Today.

That will probably mean the addition of some kind of peripheral option, given that the Yankees face a significant luxury tax burden on their payroll and already have one of the best batting orders in the sport, outside of the last week.
But in the wake of the Boston Red Sox's shocking Rafael Devers trade, Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer listed the Yankees as the "dream landing spot" for Cleveland Guardians' third baseman Jose Ramirez.
"Ramirez, 32, is another guy with full no-trade protection, and thus another guy who will go anywhere only if he wants to," Rymer noted in the article. "That said, the Yankees' contention outlook is a heck of a lot better than Cleveland's, and that is even with a hole on their infield. He would fill that by playing third and bumping Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base, though he'd also partner with Aaron Judge to again give the Yankees the best duo in the American League."
Ramirez has been one of the best players in baseball in recent seasons, earning four consecutive All-Star nods for the Guardians, and there's no real indication he could be available in a trade. But the Guardians do sit just above .500 and nearly 10 games back from the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central division, suggesting there's a possibility they become sellers by the deadline.
That being said, this trade idea seems destined to remain in "dream" territory, no matter how much the Yankees might like to see it become a reality.

Rain suspends MLB Speedway Classic until Sunday
Heavy rain washed out Major League Baseball's "Speedway Classic" on Saturday, suspending play in the first inning and postponing the finish at Bristol Motor Speedway until Sunday. A record MLB regular-season crowd of more than 85,000 spectators was expected to watch the unique contest on a specially built ballpark on the infield of the US stock car oval track. Instead, the Cincinnati Reds grabbed a 1-0 lead over the Atlanta Braves moments before the contest was halted. "We're going to suspend tonight's game. We'll be back tomorrow," MLB senior vice president of on-field opertions Michael Hill said. "We're optimistic there's a better weather forecast for tomorrow." Each team had a day off scheduled Sunday to allow for such a postponement, but whether or not the scene could recapture the special pre-game atmosphere of Saturday was uncertain. The expected crowd would have broken the MLB regular-season attendance mark of 84,587 set in 1954 at Cleveland Stadium when the New York Yankees faced the Cleveland Indians. "It's pretty incredible, man. This place is full," Cincinnati's Spencer Steer said as he looked at the stands before the game. "Never really dreamed of this. You think of 85,000 people you think of NFL or college football. A very incredible opportunity." The iconic 64-year-old US stock car high-banked oval racetrack in rural northeastern Tennessee typically fills all 146,000 seats for NASCAR series races. "It's awesome," Atlanta's Austin Riley said. "Any time you can go outside the boundaries of the baseball world and do something new like this and bring baseball and NASCAR together, it's unbelievable." In 2016, a collegiate American football game in the speedway infield dubbed the Battle at Bristol drew 156,990 fans to see Tennessee beat Virginia Tech 45-24. An NFL exhibition game on the Bristol infield between Washington and Philadelphia in 1961 drew only 8,500 spectators back when seating capacity was only 18,000. MLB built a baseball field in the infield between turns three and four, bringing in several tons of gravel to create a level field and removing a building from what would become the outfield. - History in the making - "These games are special," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "There's history in the making right here, something nobody has ever done, so it's an honor to do this." A storm arrived just before the scheduled start to delay the opening pitch by almost 2.5 hours. Cincinnati scored the first run when Matt McLain, Elly De La Cruz and Austin Hays hit three singles in a row with one out in the first inning, rain already puddling on the left side of the infield. Play was stopped moments later. "Got wet really fast," Hays said. "I was kind of shocked when I got up there. The (batters') box is soaked already so they made the decision we need to try to dry it up just enough. "It has been a fun experience but the game is why we're here so we've got to get it in." The Reds are 58-53, 3.5 games behind San Diego for the last National League wild card playoff berth, while the Braves, the 2021 World Series champions, are 46-63. MLB's previous regular-season games at special venues included at the Field of Dreams movie ballpark in an Iowa cornfield in 2021 and 2022. MLB has also staged regular-season games in Australia, South Korea, Japan, England, Mexico and Puerto Rico. js/bb

Why the MLB Speedway Classic was suspended until Sunday
Saturday's MLB Speedway Classic between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds has officially been suspended to Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Why, you may ask? Well, Bristol Motor Speedway quickly dissolved into a monsoon, with one video showing just how rancid the playing conditions were for the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds. Two rain delays later, the game was called off until Sunday afternoon. The suspension allowed the event to take place in hopefully better baseball weather for the players and fans alike. While we're sure it stunk for the folks at the game who got poured on during the waits, at least the game could continue under hopefully more accommodating skies on Sunday. That's baseball for you! Was there another game at Bristol scheduled between the Braves and Reds on Sunday? There wasn't; this was the only game for the event.

Caution flag: Soggy scenes from MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol between Reds and Braves
As American as hot dogs and apple pie: a rain delay during a summer baseball game. The MLB Speedway Classic was no match for Mother Nature's schedule, with Bristol Motor Speedway getting drenched by multiple storm fronts that moved through the area. Both Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds fans and the teams have been left to wait it out, hoping for any sign of a letup, while the grounds crew does their best to keep the field as playable as possible. "It kind of a bummer," noted FOX Sports broadcaster Kevin Burkhardt Tomorrow's another day, though, which happens to be when the game will resume — at 1 p.m. EDT.
