India Todaya day ago
The man who singled out Hindu men and shot them at point-blank range in front of their crying wives and children while they were holidaying in Pahalgam was killed while he was having a nap in his hideout on Monday. Suleiman Shah alias Hashim Musa, top Lashkar commander, was a key conspirator and executor of the barbaric attack in which 26 tourists were killed.advertisementMusa was also involved in the killing of seven people involved in the construction of the Z-Morh tunnel on the Srinagar-Sonmarg highway last year.He was among the three terrorists killed during Operation Mahadev in Jammu and Kashmir's Dachigam area near Mount Mahadev. The operation was led by a joint team of the Army and J&K Police. Around 17 grenades, one M4 carbine and two AK-47 rifles were recovered from the hideout of the terrorists.
MUSA'S PAKISTAN LINK
Musa, a former soldier in the Pakistani army's special forces, is believed to have received elite para-commando training in Pakistan, which effectively aided his terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, according to sources in the security establishment.Musa, believed to be in his late 20s, infiltrated Indian territory through the Kathua and Samba sectors. After infiltration, he became active in the Dera Ki Gali area of Rajouri-Poonch, where his Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module is suspected of orchestrating numerous attacks on security forces over the past year.Pakistani para-commandos, particularly those trained by the Special Services Group (SSG), are renowned for their expertise in unconventional warfare, survival tactics, and mountain combat. Their training includes high-endurance operations, close-quarters battle (CQB), navigation through difficult terrain, and advanced evasion techniques, all of which appear to be reflected in Musa's operations.- Ends

Operation Sindoor debate: Home minister Amit Shah counters Opposition with data, digs into Congress past

New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah slammed the Opposition in Lok Sabha for demanding proof of Operation Sindoor and criticised former home minister P Chidambaram for questioning Pakistani links of terrorists involved in Pahalgam attack. In his 75-minute intervention in the discussion on Operation Sindoor, Shah blamed Nehru-Gandhi family for erroneous decisions in the past and linked them to the current problem of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. "If PoK exists today with a separate identity, it is because of Nehru's decision to stop the war in 1948. It was a unilateral ceasefire, which was opposed by Sardar Patel," he said. "In 1948, Indian armed forces were in decisive position to take back PoK but then PM Nehru declared unilateral ceasefire." Tearing into opposition, Shah said, "I was pained yesterday when former Home Minister P Chidambaram raised the question that what was the proof that the Pahalgam terrorists came from Pakistan? What is Chidambaram trying to say? Whom does he want to save? What will you gain by saving Pakistan?" The Home Minister also slammed the then Manmohan Singh government for its response on terror attacks. "Following Operation Sindoor, our DGMO informed the Pak DGMO that India has attacked terror infrastructure on their land as per our right of self-defence. It cannot be like how it happened during Manmohan Singh's government, that terrorists come and kill us and we sit quietly...," Shah said. Following the Opposition's question over efficacy of the Modi government's decision to revoke Article 370, Shah said: "The number of terror attacks have gone down from 7,214 during UPA's regime 2004-14 to 2,150 in our 10 years from 2015-25," said Shah adding, "21 organisations with terror links that had been banned by the current government. "If you have ostrich-like mentality, you will not even be able to see the sun." aid Shah.

‘They'll squash you': NYC shooter left suicide note saying ‘please study my brain', blamed NFL

In a chilling suicide note found after New York City's deadliest mass shooting in over two decades, the gunman claimed he suffered from CTE, a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma, and blamed the National Football League for 'squashing' his life, CNN reported. As per a report by ABC, 'You can't go against the NFL, they'll squash you,' Shane Devon Tamura, 27, wrote in the three-page note discovered in his pocket after he fatally shot four people, including an NYPD officer, inside a Midtown Manhattan skyscraper on Monday. 'Please study my brain,' he wrote. The former competitive football player from Las Vegas had driven across the country in the days before the attack, arriving in New York City just hours before unleashing a deadly rampage at 345 Park Avenue, a high-profile office tower that houses the NFL's corporate headquarters on its fifth floor. According to law enforcement officials, Tamura entered the building around 6:30 pm armed with an M4-style assault rifle and began firing in the lobby, striking a police officer, a security guard, and two other civilians. He then rode the elevator to the 33rd floor — home to the building's owner, Rudin Management and shot another person before taking his own life with a bullet to the chest. In total, five people were shot. Only one survived and remains in critical but stable condition. The note, authorities said, offered a haunting glimpse into Tamura's fractured mental state. It alleged he had been suffering for years from the cognitive and emotional toll of head trauma, a condition he believed stemmed from his years playing football. While investigators have not yet confirmed whether Tamura was formally diagnosed with CTE — which can only be definitively diagnosed after death — he explicitly requested that his brain be donated for study. Tamura had no prior criminal record but did have a documented history of mental health issues, police said. Among the victims was 36-year-old NYPD officer Didarul Islam, an off-duty cop working security in the building. Islam, a Bangladeshi immigrant, was married with two young sons, and his wife is expecting their third child. Police and city officials hailed him as a hero who ran toward danger even off the clock. Mayor Eric Adams, who met Islam's family on Monday night, said the officer was 'a man of faith' and his father's only son. Later, just past midnight, fellow officers lined the street in silence for a guard of honour as Islam's body was transferred from the hospital. The shooting marked the 254th mass shooting in the US this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
