'The Summer I Turned Pretty' S3: Author Jenny Han Teases How It Will Differ From The Book

Elle7 days ago
The Summer I Turned Pretty returns for its third and final season on July 16. And with it, fans unanswered questions regarding Conrad's disappearance and his ongoing will-they won't-they situation with Belly. From July 16, you'll be able to watch the final 11 episodes on Prime Video, with a weekly programming release.
As for how the season will play out, the series may differ from how fans expect it to. In a recent interview with People, Jenny Han, the creator of the novels which inspired the show revealed that the final season 'might not always happen in the way that [they]'re expecting.'
Christopher Briney, who stars as Conrad also warned fans that they shouldn't be so convinced the season will go as they believe it will. In his cover story with Entertainment Weekly, he stated 'You have not read the scripts!' in response to Han who stated, 'There are surprises. And there are things that aren't exactly like the books.'
Given that the first two seasons received a bit of a shake-up - what with the introduction of Aunt Julia and Skye in the second series, as well as the Beach House almost getting sold - there are a lot of changes that could be added to the third season.
But rather than viewing this as a point of concern, Han has made sure that long-standing fans of the novel will be satisfied. 'There are a couple of moments that people really love from the books that I knew that people were wanting to see,' Han stated. 'I wanted to make sure that I was going to really service those fans who've been following the story for a really long time.'
While it's uncertain what exact changes will be made, Briney indicated that some of it may have something to do with which brother Belly ends up choosing in the end.
With just over a week to go, all will soon be revealed, but ultimately, Han's aim is for fans to go on one final, fun journey with the characters in a way that reflects the change in age and maturity from the first season until now.

Who Is Reese Witherspoon's Boyfriend? All About Financier Oliver Haarmann

Reese Witherspoon has been linked to Oliver Haarmann since 2024 A source told PEOPLE in October 2024 that the two were "having fun" together The Legally Blonde actress was seen packing on the PDA with the German financier in July 2025Reese Witherspoon looks smitten with boyfriend Oliver Haarmann! The Morning Show actress has been dating the German financier since 2024, and the two were seen packing on the PDA during a romantic vacation in July 2025. In photos obtained by PEOPLE, the couple were photographed kissing and hugging while taking in the sights on a yacht off the coast of Saint-Tropez, France. PEOPLE confirmed in September 2024 that Witherspoon and Haarmann were dating after they were seen spending time together in New York City earlier that year in July. At the time, a source told PEOPLE that Witherspoon was "taking things slow when it comes to dating." Another insider shared that they were "having fun" and that she "often flies between Nashville and N.Y.C. to see him." Witherspoon's relationship with Haarmann marked her first public romance since getting divorced from Jim Toth in August 2023. The former couple share son Tennessee James Toth. Witherspoon also has daughter Ava Phillippe and son Deacon Phillippe with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe. So, who is Reese Witherspoon's boyfriend, Oliver Haarmann? Here's everything to know about the financier and their romance. Haarmann is a graduate of Brown University and Harvard University, the latter of which he earned a master's in business administration from, per his LinkedIn. The financier started his career at KKR, a global investment firm in London, before leaving to found Searchlight Capital Partners, a private equity firm, in 2010. He has continued his role as a partner where he works with his two cofounders to oversee the firm's activities and portfolio, per his bio on their website. In December 2023, Sportico reported that Haarmann was in negotiations to buy 10% of the New York Islanders. A couple of months later, The New York Post reported that the Islanders confirmed Haarmann did buy a stake in the team, making him the second person to do so in one year. Like Witherspoon, Haarmann was previously married. He and his ex-wife, Mala Gaonkar, divorced after welcoming two children together. Gaonkar is a successful financier herself, starting her own hedge fund, SurgoCap Partners, in 2022. Like her ex-husband, she graduated from Harvard University with a master's in business administration. Before founding her own fund, Gaonkar worked as a founding partner of investment firm Lone Pine Capital. She also is a writer, collaborating with musician David Byrne to write an immersive theater performance in 2016. The two attended the Academy Awards together in March 2023. Along with his ex-wife Gaonkar and their friend, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation veteran Sema Sgaier, Haarmann founded a charity, Surgo Foundation. 'If you don't actually listen to people and find out what they really care about, you're not helping anyone,' Gaonkar told W in May 2017 of the charity's purpose. Witherspoon and Haarmann dined at L'Artusi in N.Y.C. in July 2024 after flying into the city via helicopter the previous day. "She enjoys it but doesn't want it to be a big focus. She's busy with work and her son," a source told PEOPLE of Witherspoon's perspective on dating. "These are her biggest priorities." Before her meetup with Haarmann in the city, Witherspoon spent time with pals Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz over the weekend. Witherspoon's dinner with Haarmann came a year after her divorce with Toth was finalized. "It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce," Witherspoon and Toth said in a statement when announcing their split in March 2023. "We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together." She has previously spoken about the difficulties she experienced following her split, telling Harper's Bazaar in August 2023 that sharing her story herself felt more 'authentic' than letting others tell it, as they did during her split with Phillippe. "To be able to talk to people directly about what's going on in my life and just share it in the way that I share great professional experiences or personal experiences, it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what's happening," she said. "Then, of course, there's speculation, but I can't control that. All I can do is be my most honest, forthright self and be vulnerable,' she added. Witherspoon shared that while the divorce was a 'vulnerable' time for her, she felt 'very connected' with those going through the same thing as her. One year after they first sparked romance rumors, Witherspoon and Haarmann were seen kissing and hugging while spending time together off the coast of Saint-Tropez. They were photographed swimming in the water while smiling and sharing sweet moments together. Prior to their yacht outing, a source told PEOPLE in October 2024 that he had been getting to know her two sons. "He's spending time with her kids too," the insider shared. "Reese loves that he's a businessman and not into Hollywood." Read the original article on People

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty' stars, creator tease ‘emotional' series ending

'We'll always have summer' — but not for much longer. The creator and stars of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' gave fans a taste of what's to come as the series nears its long-awaited ending. Author and co-showrunner Jenny Han, Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad) and Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah) are getting ready to say goodbye, with the show's final season set to premiere on Wednesday, July 16. 'The Summer I Turned Pretty,' based on Han's beloved trilogy of books, follows a love triangle between Belly and the Fisher brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. Season 3, adapted from 2011's 'We'll Always Have Summer,' sees Belly finally choose between them. AP Tung told the outlet she was 'very emotional' while filming the entire final season, but especially during her last scenes as Belly. 'I cried, naturally, many, many times,' she said. 'I was 18 when I was first cast, and I [had] just finished my first year of college, and I was 22 when we wrapped this year.' Advertisement 'I really, really do feel like I have grown up a lot on the show… it's just been such a big chapter of my life — in a very important part of my life,' she added. 'It felt very special, very emotional, and [I'm] very proud and just happy with how everything's gone and how the story's been received.' 8 Tung was 22 when 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' wrapped. WireImage While she didn't get emotional when wrapping the series finale, Han said she 'definitely cried' watching the actors bring her characters to life one last time. 'It was, in some ways, surreal,' Han said of the series coming to an end. 'I remember Lola was like, 'You're not crying that hard,' and I was like, 'I'm always going to know you, and it doesn't feel like goodbye to me.'' 'It was fun, especially on my side of things, seeing how much the character grew throughout the season and how you could really see the maturity in the decisions toward the end of the series,' he said. 'The final scenes were kind of a nice, happy button for Jeremiah — at least I hope that people watching feel that way.' Similarly, Briney, 27, described bringing Conrad's journey to a close as 'bittersweet.' Advertisement 'I just treated every season like, 'Hopefully, we get another one,'' he said. 'It's nice to finish our trilogy and to capstone that story that we signed up to hopefully get to the end of. It was good.' 8 Briney as Conrad Fisher in Season 3 of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty.' ©Amazon/Courtesy Everett Collection For fans of the original books, Han told People that certain moments from the third book might not unfold the way readers expect. 'There are a couple of moments that people really love from the books that I knew that people were wanting to see,' Han confessed. 'I wanted to make sure that I was going to really service those fans who've been following the story for a really long time. Getty Images 'I, as much as I can, try to keep my finger on the pulse of how the audience is feeling but also really be guided by my own compass in terms of story,' Han told Elle Canada. On making changes from the books, Han shared, 'At times, it's challenging; at times, it's not.' Advertisement 'It comes down to listening to your own inner voice and following you gut, and that will guide you the rest of the way,' she added. However, Han's well aware it's impossible to make every fan happy. 8 Season 3 of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' premieres on July 16 with two episodes on Prime Video. Erika Doss/Prime Advertisement 'At the end of the day, you have to please yourself and stand by what you made,' she said. 'And, you know, I think I feel that way. I feel really proud of the thing that we made.' The final season of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' premieres on Prime Video starting July 16 with a two-episode drop. New episodes will be released weekly until September 17, when Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah will finally settle the score.

Prince Harry and King Charles' Aides Took a 'Good First Step': 'There's Optimism,' Insider Says (Exclusive)

The private meeting between two of Prince Harry's top aides and a senior member of King Charles' team may mark the first step in a long-overdue thaw between the estranged father and son. That's the view of insiders, who see the quiet gathering as a crucial 'first step' in what could be a long road toward reconciliation between Harry, 40, and Charles, 76 — whose years-long rift has left communication between them all but nonexistent. On July 9, Meredith Maines, the Duke of Sussex's chief of staff and communications director, and Liam Maguire, the Sussexes' U.K. spokesperson, were photographed meeting with Tobyn Andreae, King Charles' communications secretary. The Mail on Sunday was first to report the discreet sit-down. The informal conversation — which took place at the Royal Over-Seas League, a private members' club just a short walk from Charles' London residence, Clarence House — included what appeared to be a gift bottle of wine brought by Andreae. And, PEOPLE understands, there was plenty to discuss. 'It was a good first step,' says an insider. 'It is always better to be talking.' Maines was in London for official business tied to her role as Chief Communications Officer to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Her visit included scheduled meetings with U.K.-based members of the Sussex communications team, media contacts, stakeholders and senior figures connected to Harry's charitable work. The sit-down marked the first time either Maines or Maguire had met Andreae. Some close to the palace have downplayed the long-term significance of the meeting, framing it as a routine professional exchange between senior communications staff who simply need to know and understand one another. Still, the reality remains: this kind of dialogue hasn't taken place in the recent past — and now, lines of communication appear to be reopening. 'It's a positive step,' the insider adds. 'There's optimism that it can be taken forward.' It's also not known whether Harry and Charles have spoken recently — or whether the July 9 meeting signals the start of something more meaningful. Ultimately, any real success from the talks at the London private members' club will be measured by whether Harry and Charles themselves — not just their teams — can begin to repair their fractured relationship. Related: Why Prince Harry's Invictus Games Could Reunite Him with King Charles (Exclusive) In May, Harry reaffirmed his hope for healing, telling the BBC that the door to 'reconciliation' remains open from his side. 'I would love reconciliation with my family,' he said. 'There's no point in continuing to fight anymore.' His comments came shortly after he lost a key legal battle over his request for official security for himself and his family — a decision he has partly blamed on his father. (The palace has consistently maintained that King Charles does not have control over that process.) Can't get enough of PEOPLE's Royals coverage? to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more! The rift between Harry and the royal family first erupted in 2020, when he and Meghan Markle stepped back from their official roles and began a new life in California. Since then, tensions have only intensified — fueled by high-profile interviews, their Netflix docuseries, and Harry's best-selling memoir, Spare. Read the original article on People
