Neon's First Trailer for ‘The Actor' With André Holland and Gemma Chan Features an Amnesiac Love Story

'The Actor' is ready to wake up.
The new movie, from 'Anomalisa' director Duke Johnson, stars André Holland and Gemma Chan, and you can watch the brand-new trailer right now.
The official synopsis notes that the story follows 'Paul Cole (Holland) stranded in a mysterious small town with no memory of who he is or how he got here. Without a sense of identity or purpose, he starts from scratch and begins courting a local costume designer Edna (Chan). As bits and pieces of his past slowly emerge, he attempts to find his way home, but time is slippery, appearances can't be trusted and it's unclear which of his identities is real.'
May Calamawy, Asim Chaudhry, Joe Cole, Fabien Frankel, Olwen Fouéré, Edward Hogg, Toby Jones, Youssef Kerkour, Simon McBurney, Tanya Reynolds, Tracey Ullman and Scott Alexander Young also star.
What's fascinating about 'The Actor' is that it is based on a Donald E. Westlake novel that the legendary mystery writer never published in his lifetime. It was written in 1963 and couldn't find a publisher, and was later shopped around in the late 1970s, by which point Westlake had deemed it too dated. After the writer died in 2008, a manuscript was discovered and published in 2010 by Hard Case Crime. And now that once lost story has become a major motion picture.
Johnson, of course, directed the stop-motion 'Anomalisa' with Charlie Kaufman (who executive produced 'The Actor') and is making his live-action feature debut here. You definitely get a sense of the playfulness of animation in the trailer.
Neon will release 'The Actor' exclusively in theaters on March 14.

Tom Hiddleston in "The Life of Chuck." Director Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck, starring Tom Hiddleston, is reportedly coming to digital streaming this week. After opening in limited release on June 6, The Life of Chuck — which is based on a short story by Stephen King — expanded to theaters nationwide on June 13. Released by indie studio NEON, the film's summary reads, 'From the hearts and minds of Stephen King and Mike Flanagan comes The Life of Chuck, the extraordinary story of an ordinary man. This unforgettable, genre-bending tale celebrates the life of Charles 'Chuck' Krantz as he experiences the wonder of love, the heartbreak of loss, and the multitudes contained in all of us.' Rated R, The Life of Chuck is expected to be released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, July 29, When to Stream. While When to Stream is typically accurate with its streaming reports, the streaming tracker noted that Neon has not announced or confirmed the release date of the film and as such, it is subject to change. The Life of Chuck is currently listed on Prime Video for pre-order for $19.99, which is also the film's digital purchase price. Since PVOD rentals are typically $5 less than purchase prices, viewers can expect to rent The Life of Chuck for $14.99 for 48 hours. 'I understood what Mike's extraordinary screenplay and Stephen King's short story was trying to say, which is that every seemingly ordinary human life is magic,' the Loki star told Men's Health. 'And that inside the soul of every human being is an internal world of connections, both real and imagined, connections to people we love, to experiences we've shared, to memories we've made.' In addition to Hiddleston, The Life of Chuck also stars Jacob Tremblay, Benjamin Pajak and Cody Flanagan as the younger versions of Chuck. The film's cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mia Sara, Karen Gillan, Carl Lumbly, David Dastmalchian, Matthew Lillard, Harvey Guillén and Mark Hamill. In 'Keeper,' Osgood Perkins mines the 'discomfort' of relationship horror

SAN DIEGO – Osgood Perkins is embracing the horror of romance. The director of 'Longlegs' and 'The Monkey' is back again with another scary movie, 'Keeper,' a cabin-in-the-woods thriller he previewed at the pop-culture festival Comic-Con. The presentation was part of Neon's "Next Wave of Horror" panel on Friday, July 25, an event that also featured 'Together' stars Alison Brie and Dave Franco and 'Shelby Oaks' filmmaker Chris Stuckmann. 'Keeper' (in theaters Nov. 14) centers on a couple, Liz (Tatiana Maslany) and Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland), who go to his secluded cabin for their anniversary and end up being haunted by the place's freaky past. 'Things get real, real, real weird,' Perkins said. He debuted a new trailer that showed strangeness from both lovers' perspectives. Join our Watch Party! ' Maslany said. Plus, 'we did some fun classic running and screaming.' Perkins revealed that 'Keeper' is about how he's been a jerk in his own relationships. 'Honestly, ladies and guys, we mean to do well, but sometimes we just suck,' he said. 'And I've sucked with the best of them.' He gave a shoutout to 'Together' (in theaters July 30), which explores the codependence of a couple (Brie and Franco) in eerie ways. 'But where (their movie) is very physical in a beautiful way, ('Keeper') is more mental and emotional. I guess we're all trying to do the same thing, which is that relationships kill you.' Stuckman, a YouTube film critic turned filmmaker, also premiered a trailer for his directorial debut 'Shelby Oaks' (Oct. 3). Camille Sullivan plays a woman seeking her missing sister in a narrative that involves a found-footage tape and a very bloody incident. Sullivan 'is one of those amazing people who's a secret weapon.' Perkins began the panel by paying tribute to the marginalized voices of the LGBTQ community and his father, 'Psycho' icon Anthony Perkins. He was 'a queer man not allowed to be a queer man in society or his business,' Osgood Perkins said. 'His voice was not amplified.' To honor his and the community's struggles, Perkins led the crowd as everyone did Bernard Herrman's infamous 'Psycho' knife sounds.

Joe Rogan Slams Kash Patel Over Epstein Files: ‘Everyone Knows It Doesn't Make Any Sense'

"I didn't even know what to say," the "Joe Rogan Experience" host recalls of the FBI director stopping by his podcast last month Joe Rogan isn't holding back about Kash Patel's past comments on the Epstein case a month after he guested on the podcast. The 'Joe Rogan Experience' host slammed the FBI director alongside his latest guest, former CIA agent Mike Baker, on Friday's episode. Rogan explained that Patel's discussion about the Epstein files last month doesn't make 'any sense' to him. More from TheWrap 'The Basement Yard' Host Joe Santagato Has His Sights Set on Stand-Up After 2nd Comedy Tour Joe Rogan Slams Kash Patel Over Epstein Files: 'Everyone Knows It Doesn't Make Any Sense' | Video Paramount-Skydance Merger Expected to Close Aug. 7 'Rick and Morty' Spinoff 'President Curtis' Set at Adult Swim 'The Epstein stuff is so crazy, because when Kash Patel was on here and he was like, 'There's no — there's nothing,' I was like, what are you talking about?' he recalled. 'Yeah, I didn't even know what to say.' He later continued: 'People were like, why didn't you push back more? My thought was like, I'm just going to put this out there and let the Internet do its work because there's nothing I could — the guy's saying there's no tapes, there's no video. That doesn't make any sense. Everyone knows it doesn't any sense.' Since Patel guested on the show, the DOJ and FBI released a memo that there was no substantial evidence regarding a client list created by the late, disgraced financier. The news of a lack of a list came months after Attorney General Pam Bondi told Fox News that she was in possession of a list of that very nature. 'It's sitting on my desk right now to review,' she said back in February. 'That's been a directive by President Trump.' Patel was equally cagey about the list when Rogan asked him about it in June. The host also wondered if there was video of the island Epstein reportedly flew his clients to. 'Not of what you want,' he replied. The FBI director also maintained his opinion that Epstein did commit suicide in prison — a detail that many conspiracy theorists combat. They point to a possibility that powerful people on this supposed client list had Epstein killed to keep him quiet.
