Delivery truck used as cover for burglary; 3 held
The suspects have been identified as Saikul (32) from Bharatpur, Rajasthan; Najeer (33) from Mewat, Haryana; and Sadam (38) from Nuh, Haryana.
They were reportedly using a delivery service as a front to commit thefts and had travelled to Kochi to deliver air-conditioning components.
The truck they arrived in was intercepted around 3am in the Panangad police station limits, after Tamil Nadu police alerted Kerala authorities that a truck carrying a stolen car was headed towards Kochi.
While the truck did not contain the car, police found AC components and during a detailed inspection, discovered a hidden compartment with a gas cutter and burglary tools.
Drama unfolded at the Panangad police station when one of the accused requested to use the toilet and escaped through a window. He was later caught from a nearby marsh.
"Preliminary findings suggest the gang operated under the pretext of delivering goods, commits thefts and then conceals the stolen items in their truck," a senior officer said.

During questioning, Saikul admitted to stealing a car from Krishnagiri and abandoning it 15km from the Kerala border. Police said he has at least 10 criminal cases, including several vehicle thefts, against him. Investigations are underway into the backgrounds of the other two suspects, with officials suspecting the trio are part of a larger gang based in Haryana.
The arrests come weeks after a Rajasthan-based gang was caught following ATM robberies in Thrissur and a police encounter in Tamil Nadu. Police are now examining whether the latest suspects are linked to other crimes in Kerala.
Their arrest will be formally recorded after detailed interrogation, the officer said.

More than 32 days after a Surat-based man with narcotics cases against him had been abducted and beaten up brutally by a gang with suspected links to Dawood Ibrahim's gang, he was rescued by the Mumbai crime branch in a joint operation with the UP Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday night from Banda in UP. A total of seven accused, including one suspected to have close ties to Dawood aide Chhota Shakeel, were arrested by the police. They were produced before the court on Wednesday and remanded to police custody till July 19. DCP (crime) Raj Tilak Roushan said that on June 13, two persons including Sajid Electricwala and his aide, one Shabbir Siddique were abducted in three cars from Hotel Alibaba in Oshiwara by the accused. The duo was taken to a farmhouse at Neral in Raigad and were beaten up there. Since the main focus was on Electricwala, Siddique managed to pull out one of the three railings in a grill and managed to jump out of the farmhouse and escape. He returned to his Kurla residence the next day. The gang got scared that Siddique would lead the police to the farmhouse, and hence they fled to Nashik where they stayed for a few days. They continued changing locations and moved to Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi as well. An official said the gang headed by one Sarwar Khan, who is suspected to have links to Chhota Shakeel, had earlier this year paid Rs 50 lakh to Electricwala as he allegedly know how to manufacture mephedrone. The money was paid to manufacture mephedrone or MD and return the profits. 'However, since Electricwala did not return the amount and kept avoiding them, they decided to kidnap him. After they abducted him and his aide, they beat him up and kept calling his wife demanding Rs 50 lakh,' an official said. Electricwala told the police that the Rs 50 lakh had been paid to him to purchase property. The official added that while they got back the amount they had paid him, they got greedy and started demanding that the family pay interest as well and sought nearly Rs 3 crore and held him captive even as they kept changing locations. Till then the matter was under wraps as Electricwala's family is based in Gujarat and had not reported him missing. However, when he was not released even by July, Siddique, who had escaped earlier, approached the police and gave a complaint based on which an FIR was registered at the Oshiwara police station on July 10 and the matter was handed over to the crime branch. Six teams comprising of various crime branch officers began tracking the movements of the accused and eventually on Tuesday the team reached Banda in UP. The crime branch took assistance from the UP Special Task Force (STF) and launched an operation finally rescuing Electricwala from the clutches of the accused persons. While Sarwar Khan, Rahul Sawant and Mahtab Ali were arrested from UP, four others identified as Santosh Waghmare, Satish Kadu, Yunis Tevarpalli and Tausif Sandhi were arrested from Mumbai and Raigad. 'Seven accused have been arrested in the case so far while we are looking for a few more accused in the case,' Roushan said. Sajid Electricwala, the primary target of the abduction, was previously arrested by Maharashtra's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in 2015 in a multi-crore MD drug case from Oshiwara. During his time in prison, he reportedly became acquainted with notorious gangster Harish Mandvilkar, who helped him threaten a witness in the case against him. After this came to light, an FIR was registered against both Electricwala and Mandvilkar.

Death of Vipanjika & child: Kerala HC seeks Centre's response on plea for repatriation of bodies
Kochi: High court on Wednesday sought instructions from the Union govt on a petition seeking the repatriation of the mortal remains of Vipanjika Maniyan, a native of Keralapuram in Kollam, and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Vaibhavi, who were found dead in Sharjah, UAE. Justice N Nagaresh was considering the petition by S Sheela, the maternal aunt of Vipanjika. Besides repatriation, Sheela has also sought a directive for a fair and proper investigation into the deaths, alleging that Vipanjika had suffered persistent mental harassment, emotional abuse and threats at the hands of her husband, Nidheesh Mohan, and other in-laws. HC instructed the petitioner to implead Nidheesh Mohan as he is the legal claimant concerning decisions on the repatriation of mortal remains. The petition will be further considered on Thursday. According to the petitioner, she is currently the only close relative available in Kerala, as Vipanjika's mother, Shylaja, has travelled to Sharjah to facilitate the repatriation process, while the deceased's only sibling resides in Canada. Vipanjika and her daughter were reportedly found hanging at their residence in Sharjah on July 8. RAIPUR: The third day of the Monsoon Session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly witnessed sharp exchanges and heated debates, particularly over the rising cases of cybercrime in the state. BJP MLA targeted the government, alleging gross negligence and delay in action despite the alarming surge in cyber frauds across the state. Sharma added that a 'Cyber Bhawan' was inaugurated by chief minister at the cost of Rs 277 crore and I can take all the members for a round and show that the cases of all districts were being lodged there. BJP MLAs Ajay Chandrakar and Rajesh Munat also raised concerns. Chandrakar demanded clarity on how many cyber commandos had been trained and how many appointments had been made. Sharma reiterated that the recruitment of specialists was 'in process,' but failed to give a timeline. 'The cyber experts are being empanelled under the IT Act while batch of six trained cyber experts including an IPS are already on job as experts. This is a continuous process and appointments will be done.' Munat cited figures indicating Rs 107 crore had been siphoned off through cyber fraud in the state, of which only about Rs 3 crore had been recovered. He demanded the appointment of a senior officer to oversee the situation. Sharma responded that recovery of funds is subject to court procedures and that an IG-level officer has already been appointed for cybercrime. In response to a query on arrests made between January 2024 and June 2025, Sharma said three bank-related fraud cases had led to the imprisonment of seven accused, from Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur. While the cybercrime debate dominated the session, Opposition Congress also raised the issue of completion of work and payments under PM Awas Yojana and MNREGA. Leader of Opposition Dr Charan Das Mahant questioned the state's handling of PM housing benefits, especially in cases where houses were allegedly marked complete despite missing toilets. He asked if the completion is considered and payments were done only upon construction of house, or MNREGA work or building of toilets. Deputy CM Vijay Sharma defended by attributing past delays to the previous government and claimed that under CM Vishnu Deo Sai, all pending payments had been cleared right from year 2011. In further exchanges, Mahant raised concerns about fund delays in MNREGA, citing specific districts like Jashpur and Bijapur. Sharma responded that all labour payments were made by June 30, but agreed to verify any discrepancies if provided with documentation, mainly in interior regions of Bijapur, where bank accounts might not be functional. Mahant reacted stating that he has got complaints about completed houses under PMAY, the payments were which were stalled by claiming they were incomplete and they were trying to 'fool' the govt. Sharma replied that Mahant's comment was very hurtful to him while he's ready with all the documents that shows how Congress delayed the PMAY construction despite approval from the Centre. This was followed by noisy scenes as opposition members objected Sharma's reply. Assembly Speaker Raman Singh then said the word 'bewakoof' was abolished and it should not be used any further in the House.
