X Factor favourite Nicholas McDonald looking forward to returning to Lanarkshire stage
There's no place like home for former X Factor finalist Nicholas McDonald who is looking forward to performing in Lanarkshire again.
Nicholas shot to fame after finishing runner-up to Sam Bailey in series 10 of the competition in 2013.
Brought up in Wishaw, the 28-year-old still lives in North Lanarkshire but spends much of his time all over Britain and Europe, amassing over a hundred live performances each year.
He is now bringing his full-band show to Airdrie Town Hall later this month, his first and possibly only performance in Lanarkshire this year.
Nicholas played Hamilton Town Hall last year, he followed that up by appearing at NHS Lanarkshire Awards ceremony in October last year and dedicated the performance to staff who cared for him. He suffered a cardiac arrest while playing football in East Kilbride at 10 years old and following tests was diagnosed with Long QT syndrome.
'The one at Hamilton last year was such a success that we thought we'd do Airdrie this time. I have played there before during a charity show years ago.
'I never get to do many local shows so it's nice to be back in the area. It won't be the same show as last year and I will be playing some original music as well as the favourites.
'I actually have family coming over from Florida for the show as well. I'm really looking forward to it.
'I'm just back from Egypt where I was doing some shows there and I'm really busy for the rest of the year.
'I'm very lucky in that I do around 120 shows a year, and 12 years down the line [from The X Factor] I get to call it my full-time job.
'I'm thankful and grateful that people spend their hard-earned money to come out and see me, especially now with the cost-of-living crisis, and that doesn't go unrecognised. I really appreciate every single person who buys a ticket and comes along after all these years.
"It's a dream to call this my job and I absolutely love it. I do the show production myself, I haven't any management or special PR team doing it for me.'
Nicholas still keeps in touch with X Factor winner Sam Bailey, the two forged a great friendship while on the show.
'I met up with Sam a few months ago when she was part of a musical at the Kings Theatre in Glasgow. We hope we can do something together at some point but it's finding dates that suit both our schedules. I think it would be a first because I don't think an X Factor winner and runner-up have actually done their own show together.'

Reflecting on their divorces, Rylan confessed that it wasn't something he would wish to endure again, due to the immense anguish it brought him. Rylan revealed he continues to experience excruciating reminders of his heartache to this day, sharing: "I've had to do it once and once was enough for me. "You still get that weird sharp pain every now and again. "It'll be something so stupid like, 'Oh that glass looks like...' and it's, like, that little. I couldn't imagine going through that twice, I don't know how I'd fare." Rylan has previously opened up about his marriage to Dan Neal, with the BBC Radio 2 presenter confessing he experienced certain feelings he wasn't familiar with post-divorce. Speaking on the same podcast, he admitted: "I have found that, since the breakdown of my marriage, if I've gone on any dates or started seeing people, when I've had sex with them, I lose interest pretty quickly. "I actually got pretty worried about a year or two ago, because I thought, hang on a minute, I don't remember this from BM I call it, before marriage. "I don't remember having sex with someone, or orgasming with someone, climaxing, and then after that thinking, 'Oh, I'm just not bothered now'."

Arriving home from university to find my strict South Asian mother watching pornography felt like one of those 'I bet you're wondering how I got here' record-scratch moments. Surrounded by a Channel 4 film crew and bright lights, my mother, Jane, was red-faced while watching a threesome and listening to a cacophony of moans. She was doing it for a three-part series called Mums Make Porn in 2019, which followed five mothers producing porn they'd feel comfortable having their adult children watch. They faced explicit videos, sex toys and live-action porn sets. The aim was to tackle the misogyny and exploitation rampant in mainstream porn and challenge its male-dominated narratives. My mother was invited to be a part of the series after the production company approached her on social media. I was astonished that she agreed, but when she asked me if I approved, my curiosity got the better of me and, with some trepidation – Mum had never even seen 50 Shades of Grey, let alone porn – I said yes. Inwardly, I hoped that her participation in the show might lead to more open conversations about sex between us – she was about to be slapped in the face with the cultural gap that I had been navigating for years. I had British friends who would have conversations with their mothers about starting contraception, while I faced grave trouble for kissing a boy on my 15th birthday. At school, I was bullied for parroting strict beliefs in sex education class, like not losing my virginity before 21. I never dared make such a proclamation again. One of the scenes Mum and I filmed for the show together involved her asking me whether I knew about threesomes, if I had friends who had tried anal sex, and if I had ever seen a porn movie before. I answered each with a dryly amused 'no'. The truth was, I had friends who had done these things, and this could have been a breakthrough moment for us. However, I could see how deeply my mother was struggling with the experience. Not only was she confronted with hordes of sex toys, but the blasé attitudes of porn directors and, eventually, a live porn set where she witnessed porn actors having sex, which caused one of the other mums to vomit. My mother came home dismayed. She started to have lengthy conversations with me about her inability to align her South Asian morals with what she was seeing. She was doing what I'd spent my whole life doing, navigating the differences in culture. I had learned to deal with it from a young age but I could sense her fear and sadness and that only evoked my compassion. Rather than wishing I could talk more to my mum about sex, I felt deeply sympathetic for her. I couldn't face upsetting her further by bringing the topic up again. Everything came to a head when my mother ultimately decided she couldn't align her values with producing a porn film and tearfully made the decision to drop out of the show. She faced backlash for this online. People mocked her, with many asking why she even bothered to do the show in the first place. When the show was broadcast, I watched scenes of my mother on the set of a live pornography shoot, and they should have been funny; instead, I felt annoyed that viewers wouldn't understand how much of her existing cultural beliefs she had overcome to be there. The image of my mother crying stays with me. In late 2024, my mother celebrated the fifth anniversary of Mums Make Porn at an event. Mum felt happy to see the cast and was warmly greeted, but she had no regrets about leaving the show and her views on porn haven't changed – she still finds it incompatible with her own moral compass. Five years on, my mother and I are stuck in the same dynamic we have always been when it comes to talking about sex and porn. Kelly Osbourne shares beautifully bold tribute to dad Ozzy after funeral
Ozzy Osbourne's daughter Kelly has paid brilliantly unique tribute to her father after he was laid to rest on Thursday. The legendary heavy metal rocker, who died aged 76 on July 22, was buried by the lake in the grounds of his Buckinghamshire mansion following a private church service. This followed a huge public outpouring of love and mourning from the crowd of thousands that gathered in Ozzy's home city of Birmingham for an emotional funeral procession through its streets the previous day, just weeks after his final ever show there, at Villa Park. Marking one of her first social posts since her beloved dad's funeral and death – and since his Back to the Beginning last gig, where Kelly's fiancé Sid Wilson proposed – Kelly returned to Instagram late on Friday night. She shared a single image to her Stories with no additional comment, but the picture spoke for itself. Reality show star Kelly, 40, had photographed a picture of a purple funeral wreath for Ozzy, by the lake, which simply – and appropriately – read: 'Ozzy F***ing Osbourne'. It stood proud among the rolling grassy grounds by the peaceful-looking lake, reflected in its waters. According to The Sun, 110 of the Black Sabbath star's closest friends and family travelled to join his wife Sharon, 72, and children Kelly, Jack, 39, Aimee, 41, and Louis, 50 – Ozzy's son from his first marriage to Thelma Riley – at the private service. These included Ozzy's bandmates, Metallica's James Hetfield, Sir Elton John and singer Yungblud. Other stars pictured making their way into the venue included Marilyn Manson, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor and Zakk Wylde, who was photographed clutching two guitars. Devastated fans have also left flowers, signs, cards and gifts outside the property in tribute. It was here the family was shown adding their own flowers to those left by fans, enormously touched by the outpouring and struggling with their grief, with X Factor judge Sharon in tears.
