'Rishabh Pant At Lord's...': India Wicketkeeper Promises 'Iconic' Performance
India stars - KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj - recall the team's famous Lord's Triumph on the 2021 England tour.
Part of India's remarkable triumph at Lord's during the 2021 Test tour of England, the trio of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj expressed their delight upon returning to the iconic venue and look ahead to an exciting contest as they face England in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy from today.
In a special clip shared by the BCCI, the three stars echoed the message of 'Believed in 2021, Belief in 2025' ahead of the Test match, where Team India will be eyeing a 2-1 series lead after an inspirational comeback victory in Birmingham, overcoming their frustrating defeat at Headingley.
Rahul, who struck a magnificent first-innings century to set up India's memorable victory at Lord's on the previous trip, shared his feelings of having come back to the ground.
'My experience of having played here with a lot of pride and happiness. A happy feeling to come here and enter the dressing room, see the honours board and have your name on it. Hopefully, I can put in a great performance here once again and make sure I get as many runs as I can and put the team in a winning position," he said.
Pant also recalled the wonderful Test where fortunes shifted back and forth before the then captain Virat Kohli's feisty brigade unleashed 60 overs of hell on the English side on the final afternoon and emerged victorious after an excellent performance from the fast bowlers.
'Everyone knows it's an iconic ground. Getting everyone together to win that Test match was so amazing to see," said Pant, now the vice-captain.
'God has been kind that I got a chance again with a different team in a different environment in a different role. This is something we're going to take from the last match as a team, lots of confidence and hopefully we can make it a 2-1 series lead now," he added.
Pant wants to carve his own niche and hopes to deliver an iconic performance at the historic venue. 'I am trying to make my own identity. And Lord's everyone knows is an iconic ground. When we Rishabh Pant at Lord's, it's going to be iconic," he said.
Siraj, who played a key role in that Lord's win four years ago, hopes he continues to deliver the goods.
'I am so grateful because in 2021, the match we won," said Siraj, who had taken four wickets apiece in the two innings and helped India achieve 151-run victory.
'As a player, having your name on the honours board. I want to perform for my team and help it win," he added.

It's not a holiday, you're here for a purpose: BCCI to players
India head coach Gautam Gambhir has backed the BCCI's directive to limit the presence of cricketers' families during long overseas tours, saying players must realise they are not on vacation but on national duty. The BCCI introduced a revised travel policy after the Indian team's 1-3 defeat in Australia at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, capping family members' stay to two weeks maximum for tours longer than 45 days. For shorter tours, the duration was restricted to seven days. 'Families' roles are important, but you've got to understand one thing. You are here for a purpose. It's not a holiday. You're here for a huge purpose. You've got very few people in that dressing room or in this tour that gets this opportunity to make the country proud. 'So yes, I'm not against not having families with us,' said Gambhir during a conversation with Cheteshwar Pujara on Sony Sports Network. Star batter Virat Kohli had earlier spoken in favour of having families accompany players, saying personal support helps during high-pressure situations. Gambhir, however, stressed the importance of putting country before everything else. 'It is important to have families, but if your focus is towards making our country proud and you have a much bigger role than any other thing, and you're committed to that goal, you're committed to that cause, I think everything else is fine. But for me, I think that cause and that goal is far more important than any other thing.' On the sidelines of the third Test against England at Lord's, Gambhir also admitted he finds it difficult to disconnect from the game, revealing he was thinking about team combinations minutes after India's comeback win over England in the second Test at Birmingham. 'That's a tough question. I still haven't understood how do I switch off because I never switch off and sometimes it's very funny and it's very weird,' he said when asked how he unwinds. 'Honestly, when we won the last test match, the moment we won the last test match, the first thing that came in my mind was what is going to be the combination for the next Test? 'And when I went back to my room, I was thinking, how does that work? We've just won a Test match. The guys have worked hard to make a comeback after losing the first one, and I have already started thinking about what's going to be the combination, how can we win the next one? But I still haven't figured out honestly, to switch off.'

Bumrah, who ended the first innings with a fifer, etched his name on the prestigious honours list at the storied cricket ground to help India limit England to a score of 387. Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah entered the Lord's honour board on Friday following his five-wicket haul against England in the third Test of the five-match series between the sides at the fabled stadium in London. Bumrah, who ended the first innings with a fifer, etched his name on the prestigious honours list at the storied cricket ground to help India limit England to a score of 387. Bumrah, who had picked up just a single wicket on the opening day of the Lord's test with the dismissal of Harry Brook, added to his tally on the second day of the game with the removal of Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Chris Woakes and Jofa Archer. The star Indian seamer was helped by fellow quick Maohammed Shami and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who picked up a couple of wickets each as Siraj removed Jamie Smith for 51 runs and Brydon Carse for 56, while Reddy topped the English openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett for 18 and 23 runs respectively on the opening day. Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja dismissed the dangerous Ollie Pope for 44 runs. Returning English pacer Jofra Archer got the better of Yashasvi Jaiswal as the seamer removed the southpaw for 13 runs, before English skipper Stokes dismissed Karun Nair for 40 runs. Indian captain Shubman Gill fell to Brydon Carse for 16 runs as KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant closed out Day 2 unbeaten on 53 runs and 19 runs respectively. India finished off the second day of the contest on 145/3. The series remains steadily in the balance at 1-1 as England picked up a win in the opening Test at the Headingley Stadium before India posted a historic triumph at Edgbaston. view comments First Published: July 12, 2025, 08:46 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Inside the Dukes Ball Drama: Gill's Anger, Bumrah's Stand, Root's Take This is different from situations where players deliberately stay off the field for tactical reasons. In those cases, the player may face a batting restriction and can only come in after a certain number of overs have passed. Poll Should players be allowed to bat if they are injured but cannot field? Yes, it's fair No, they should not bat Only if verified by a physio Pant's case falls under the 'injury or external blow' clause, which provides full flexibility. Pant's return to bat at No. 5 was a huge boost for India, he came in after India had lost three wickets for just 65 in response to England's 387. He and steadied the innings with a solid partnership. While Rahul kept things calm, Pant added energy at the other end. The fact that he didn't take the field didn't affect his batting eligibility, and for India, that made all the difference.
