Nineties heartthrob reveals love for Dublin fish and chip shop

Wet Wet Wet singer Marti Pellow has revealed his love for a famous fish and chip shop in Dublin. The Scottish star is no stranger to Ireland and has fond childhood memories of visiting family friends here. He has a soft spot for Dalkey and Howth in Co. Dublin, and long ago made a Sweet Surrender to one well-known chipper in particular. Pellow said he loves Leo Burdock's – Dublin's oldest chipper – adding that they are 'so much better than Scottish fish and chips'. Fish and Chips. 'I would visit them, and that's where I had my first boxty [a traditional Irish potato cake]. 'We call them tatty scones and in Scotland, it's quite similar, but you know when I was a wee boy, I would always say, 'Oh, my auntie made boxes well.' She made them so I was mad for them, I always loved going to Dalkey.' The Love Is All Around singer was speaking ahead of his return to Ireland, where he will take to the stage at Trinity College Dublin on July 6. And he returns again with Wet Wet Wet on September 6, when the band perform at Oakfest 2025 alongside Boney M and the Whistlin' Donkeys. Marti Pellow. I thought, I'll go for a wee walk about in the audience,' he recalled. 'I'm singing away and I felt a wee tap on the shoulder, and the woman stood up and presented me with a full-on black pudding.' On another occasion, an elderly lady who, after reading somewhere that he liked peas, would bring him a can of his favourite legumes every time she saw him perform. And Pellow said of his Irish female fans: 'I always find them to be quite fiery. They don't suffer fools easily and are strong, powerful women. I think that's to be respected.' The Angel Eyes singer also revealed he is a fan of Mary Black and her daughter Róisín Ó. 'I'm just a big fan of her too, and, you know, what a talented family,' he added. Exeter 'never got flustered' in cup comeback

Exeter Chiefs coach Ricky Pellow has praised his side's composure as they twice came back from behind to beat Ealing Trailfinders in the Premiership Rugby Cup. The Championship side led 22-14 with 30 minutes to go in their semi-final at Sandy Park - having also had an early 10-0 lead. But Exeter recovered to win 28-24 and ensure a home final against Bath on Sunday at 12:00 GMT. "We were under pressure in periods, they scored some quality tries and the scoreboard came away from us a little bit, but we never got flustered," Pellow told BBC Radio Devon. "In the past, like the Gloucester game, we probably got a little bit flustered and then our discipline went. "Today we managed to maintain our discipline and that allowed us them to rip the momentum back off Ealing." Exeter have struggled this season, winning two Premiership matches. Six bonus points are all that keep them above bottom side Newcastle. But they have had success in the cup, and have used the competition to try and iron out their problems, while blooding a number of younger players. Pellow felt at times that his side underperformed against Ealing, who are 13 points clear at the top of the second tier. "To be going into a final and feel a little bit frustrated is good," he said. "What we've got to do this week now is reset, take some learnings from the game and re-energise. "We know we're in for one hell of a game against Bath. They're a physical side, they're direct with how they play, and we're going to have to front up again in a big physical confrontation." He added: "This competition for us is a super way of developing players, but also to give you an opportunity to have something tangible. "This competition means a lot to us and a lot to the players - we see the guys in the changing room now, they're super-excited and looking forward to Sunday."

Masked Singer's Davina makes cheeky request during final

The Masked Singer's Davina McCall couldn't contain her love for Marti Pellow after he was revealed to be Wolf during Saturday, 15 February's grand final. Famed for being the lead singer of Wet Wet Wet, the Scotsman finished in third place behind Dressed Crab and Pufferfish, and after unmasking himself Pellow stuck to tradition by performing one last time infront of the studio audience; presenter Joel Dommett and panellists McCall, Jonathan Ross, Maya Jama and Danny Jones. Clearly enamoured by the singer, the former Big Brother star took this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ask if he wouldn't mind going off-script by belting out his band's biggest tune 'Love Is All Around'. After audibly squealing at the sight of a de-wolfed Pellow, McCall yelled: "Oh my God! Very sexy Marti," before the cheeky request came into play. "I don't know if we're allowed to do this so you'll have to let me know Joel, but I want you to sing that now," she added, referring to 'Love Is All Around'. "Can you make that happen Joel?" The Masked Singer fans suffer 'second-hand embarrassment' as star storms off stage The Masked Singer clues are too 'obscure' and 'spoil' the show Touching his earpiece, the TV presenter said: "I'm not listening to them, YES YOU CAN DO IT! I have no authority but I'm saying yes!" Before obliging the panellist with a crowd-pleasing rendition, Pellow himself described the Masked Singer experience as "incredible". Following Pellow's elimination from the final line-up, it was down to just Dressed Crab and Pufferfish for the Masked Singer crown. Two-time Grammy Award winner Gregory Porter was then unmasked as Dressed Crab following a studio audience vote. Known for his soul, jazz and gospel music, Porter will tour across 12 UK venues this spring. This opened the floor for winner Samantha Barks to unveil herself as Pufferfish infront of the nation. The West End actress, who has appeared in Les Misérables, Frozen, and Oliver! amongst other productions, commented: "I think for me because I've played Elsa for three years, it's been fun to just do lots of different stuff and every week I just wanted to do a new kind of style or a new kind of song and that was really fun. "But also I feel like I've lived this double life, because I've had these crazy experiences but nobody in my life knows this, I love it!" Numerous fans writing on social media were rather underwhelmed by the outcome, though, citing no knowledge of Barks and her work. "Well done, lady. Sorry don't know you," read one reaction on X.
