MP eyes development of mobile app for Simhastha 2028 visitors
With over 14 crore devotees anticipated to attend the Simhastha in Ujjain, the app, currently under construction, will provide an unified platform for govt departments and millions of visitors expected to visit the temple city during the month long Simhastha.
Sanjay Dubey, IAS, additional chief secretary of the department of science and technology, said, "Once the app is downloaded, users will navigate its features effortlessly through a search function, and it will be voice-enabled to cater to diverse linguistic needs.
Whether a visitor is from Tamil Nadu requiring guidance in Tamil or a French speaker looking for assistance in their language, the app is equipped to serve them.

The team from Prayagraj was also invited by the Madhya Pradesh govt to present their experiences, challenges, successes, and planning strategies. The govt is also considering involving IITs, IIMs, and other reputed institutions in managing one of the world's largest gatherings.
The govt plans to create a control room to monitor app data and provide real-time information about crowd dynamics.
The mobile application will offer a plethora of features, including real-time updates on facility availability, accommodation options, parking slots, and detailed directions. Additionally, it will enable seamless bookings for Darshan and ashrams, covering every aspect from transportation and security to public amenities like toilets and routes.
According to the MPSEDC department, the app will also act as a critical tool for ensuring safe navigation during the festival, determining the shortest route to their desired destination while indicating crowded areas and suggesting alternative paths.
Furthermore, it will provide updates on the availability and condition of nearby toilets and water facilities.
"Insights from user data will help predict crowd movements, ultimately enhancing safety and efficiency. A dedicated team of approximately 30 engineers is currently working on the project, with plans to expand to over 100 as the development progresses," said Dubey.

Govt Schools To Get Smart Boards
New Delhi: The Delhi cabinet on Tuesday gave its nod to a proposal for setting up 18,996 smart boards in govt school classrooms. Announcing the decision, education minister Ashish Sood said another proposal to install 2,466 smart boards in 75 'CM Shri Schools' was already at the tendering stage, while 18,996 boards would be set up in phases during the five-year term of govt. A teachers' training module to teach using the blackboards has also been passed in the meeting," Sood said. He added that the cabinet, chaired by chief minister Rekha Gupta, approved more than Rs 900 crore for the digital classroom initiative. Sood said the smart boards would initially be installed for classes IX to XII across the state-run schools in Delhi by 2029-30. The education minister said that only 799 smart blackboards were installed in Delhi govt schools between 2014 and 2024 from donations received from various organisations under the corporate social responsibility initiative. "You will be surprised to know that Delhi has a total of 37,778 classrooms in govt schools, yet between 2014 and 2024, only 799 of these were equipped with smart blackboards and even those came through CSR donations, not govt funding," Sood said. He added that unlike past projects, which focused mostly on central and elite areas, the new reforms aimed to take digital learning to schools in under-served areas such as Najafgarh, Narela, Seemapuri, Mahavir Enclave and Kirari. The minister also dismissed the opposition's criticism over budget allocations, saying that BJP govt did not cut the education budget but prioritised it. "This is the first major step towards making Delhi's govt schools better than private schools not just in infrastructure, but in pedagogy and learning outcomes as well," he said. Sood said Delhi govt under Gupta's leadership was committed to delivering "world-class, equitable, and digitally empowered" education to every child in Delhi, not just in showpiece schools, but where it's needed the most. In an announcement made last month, Gupta said Delhi govt would set up 7,000 smart classrooms in its schools by the end of the year. She added that 175 digital libraries and 100 APJ Abdul Kalam Language Labs offering foreign language instruction in English, French and German would also be made operational in Delhi govt-run schools.

IndiGo likely to firm up orders for more Airbus A350s: Executive
Mumbai: IndiGo is expected to convert its purchase rights for 40 Airbus A350 family aircraft into a firm order, said a senior executive at the French plane maker. IndiGo, India's largest carrier, had in April last year placed a firm order for 30 A350-900 aircraft and secured an option for an additional 70 A350 aircraft. Of this, last month, it converted 30 into a firm order, increasing its total confirmed A350 order book to 60 planes. "They actually will order more aircraft. More likely would, because they secured that right, because they believe they will need those aircraft. And so, the (Indian) market is such that it's easy to appreciate that there is a need for much more advanced aircraft," Benoit de Saint-Exupery, executive vice-president sales of the commercial aircraft business at Airbus, told ET. He did not say when IndiGo is expected to place the order. A spokesperson for IndiGo, run by InterGlobe Aviation , did not respond to email queries. IndiGo's A350-900 planes, first ordered in 2024, will start arriving from mid-2027. The A350 is a long-range aircraft used by global airlines. It comes in two types - the A350-900 and the larger A350-1000. The aircraft can carry 300 to 410 passengers and can fly up to 18,000 km, or 15 to 18 hours nonstop. Live Events It is not yet clear whether IndiGo's future A350 orders will be for the A350-900 or the larger A350-1000. So far, Air India is the only homegrown carrier to order the A350-1000, which will feature a four-class layout including first class. In June 2023, IndiGo placed the largest ever single aircraft order by any airline for 500 aircraft with Airbus. With that, the airline's outstanding orderbook for A320 family aircraft reached nearly 1,000 aircraft which are slated for delivery by the next decade. It comprises a mix of A320NEO, A321NEO and A321XLR aircraft. IndiGo currently has orders for 1,400 aircraft, including the 30 A350s it ordered in June this year. Out of this, more than 455 planes have already been delivered to IndiGo. The A350-900 is listed at $308.1 million, while the A350-1000 is priced at $355.7 million, according to London-based aircraft broker AXON Aviation Group. Both Airbus and Boeing stopped publishing official aircraft prices in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Final aircraft prices vary for each airline and are usually negotiated privately. Airbus has orders for 1,391 A350 aircraft as of May 31 and has delivered 648 of the total, according to its website. Airbus also sees a role for its smaller A220 planes in India's regional routes, said Remi Maillard, president of Airbus India & South Asia. He said India's young population, strong economy, and strategic location between the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Europe makes it well-placed to drive aviation growth. Separately, Airbus, which is currently sourcing up to $1.4 billion worth of aerospace parts annually from India, aims to increase it by $600 million "well before the end of this decade," said Maillard. On sectors where Airbus sees potential to further grow its business in India, he said, "Defence, space, helicopters, commercial aviation, and the services related to all these... India is the fastest growing market, not only for commercial aviation, but for helicopters."
