Egyptian FM: No Mideast Stability Without Palestinian Solution
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt continues to work tirelessly to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that Cairo is engaged in coordinated efforts with Qatar and the United States to halt what he described as 'ongoing crimes and systematic starvation' in the Gaza Strip. These efforts have been sustained for over 21 months since the events of October 7, 2023.
In an interview on the ON TV program Kelma Akhira, Abdelatty noted that the current geopolitical context is more favorable for reaching an agreement on Gaza, citing increased recognition among key international actors, especially the US, of Egypt's comprehensive vision. He stressed that peace and stability in the Middle East are impossible without addressing the root of the conflict: the Israeli-Palestinian issue, with the Palestinian cause at its core.
'The message is now clear to Israel: there will be no security or stability without resolving the Palestinian issue and achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace,' he stated, adding that this stance is increasingly echoed by the European Union and other global powers.
Responding to a question on recent remarks by US President Donald Trump about a potential Gaza agreement in the coming weeks, Abdel Aaty affirmed the seriousness of American engagement. 'This is true. The January 19 ceasefire agreement in Gaza would not have been possible without the intervention of the current US administration,' he said, pointing to Washington's influence and Egypt's desire for further American involvement.
He added that while the January agreement yielded promising results, Israel later violated the truce and resumed attacks without justification, despite a previously positive diplomatic climate.

Denmark to Introduce Mandatory Military Service for Women Amid Security Concerns
By Ahmad El-Assasy Denmark has announced a historic expansion of its conscription policy to implement mandatory military service for women, in a strategic move aimed at boosting troop numbers and strengthening national defense amid rising security tensions across Europe. Under legislation passed by the Danish Parliament in June 2023, all women turning 18 after July 1, 2025, will be required to register for assessment days, similar to the existing process for men. These evaluations will determine their eligibility for military service. Until now, military enlistment for women in the Scandinavian nation has been strictly voluntary. Mandatory military service for women In 2024, women accounted for approximately 24% of Denmark's new recruits. The shift toward gender-inclusive mandatory service reflects the government's determination to expand its military capacity as regional threats escalate. 'In the current global climate, we need more conscripts,' said Kathrine, a recruit in Denmark's Royal Life Guards, speaking to Reuters. 'I believe women should contribute equally alongside men.' To accommodate the growing number of female recruits, the Danish Armed Forces are currently updating military camps and equipment to be more gender-inclusive. In addition to including women in the draft, Denmark plans to gradually extend the duration of conscription from the current four months to 11 months by 2026. The total number of conscripts is expected to rise from around 5,000 today to 7,500 by 2033. Why mandatory military service for women in Denmark This move comes shortly after Denmark reaffirmed its commitment to NATO by agreeing to increase its defense spending in coordination with alliance partners. Egyptian FM, EU Commissioner Discuss Gaza Ceasefire and Reconstruction
H-Tayea Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty received a telephone call today from Dubravka Šuica, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, focusing on deepening Egypt–EU cooperation across multiple strategic fronts. Abdelatty welcomed EU efforts and Commissioner Šuica's support in securing the approval of the €4 billion second tranche of macro-financial assistance to Egypt. He emphasized this funding will bolster Egypt's response to economic and developmental challenges amid regional and global turbulence. The ministers discussed plans to expand economic, trade, and investment ties, aligned with Egypt's foreign investment attraction objectives. Abdelatty stressed the importance of addressing irregular migration by linking it with sustainable development, and highlighted the need to scale up cooperation in regulated migration and European investment to generate employment opportunities inside Egypt. Regarding Gaza, Abdelatty urged for an immediate resumption of the ceasefire and unhindered access for humanitarian, relief, and medical aid. He briefed Commissioner Šuica on Egypt's active coordination with Qatar and the United States, and announced Egypt's commitment to hosting an international conference on emergency recovery and reconstruction in Gaza—pending a durable ceasefire—in partnership with the Palestinian Authority and the UN. Canada condemns Israel's operation in Gaza, joins Egypt in ceasefire call: Ambassador - Foreign Affairs
Canadian Ambassador to Cairo Ulric Shannon affirmed his country's condemnation of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and joined Egypt in calling for a ceasefire. He made his remarks during a celebration of Canada's National Day at his residence, held in a festive red-and-white atmosphere. The Ambassador praised Cairo's efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and described relations between Canada and Egypt as "advanced." Ambassador Shannon also expressed his happiness to celebrate National Day in Egypt this year, noting his previous tenure at the Canadian Embassy in Cairo as a third secretary in 2005. "Since I drank from the Nile, I have returned to it again,' he said. He lauded the strong cultural ties uniting the two countries, largely thanks to the large and successful Egyptian community in Canada, which numbers in the hundreds of thousands. The Ambassador highlighted that just two months after he assumed his duties in Cairo, visas were reinstated for Canadians upon entry to Egypt. This move has contributed to an increase in Canadian businesspeople and tourists, as well as an uptick in investment, he noted. Shannon added that Canada hosted the largest economic delegation from Egypt last April. He said that Canada, as the current chair of the G7 for 2025, cooperates closely with Egypt regarding the situation in the Middle East, referring to yesterday's phone call between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
