UP govt deploys advanced technologies to curb illegal mining
Mining activities are already being monitored through drones, geo-fencing, RFID tags, and AI-powered check gates. Now, the state is set to introduce 'Weigh-In-Motion' (WIM) technology to accurately track vehicle overloading.
According to the official release, the Department of Geology and Mining has reinforced surveillance with multiple tech-driven interventions, including geo-fencing of mining zones, camera-equipped weighbridges, and RFID tagging of transport vehicles.
Additionally, 57 unmanned IoT and AI-based check gates have been installed across 25 districts, all integrated with the directorate's command centre.
The department has also sought the cooperation of the Transport Commissioner to facilitate the installation of WIM systems to strengthen control over illegal mining and transportation.
Moreover, to enhance digital transparency in mining services, the state government has initiated the integration of its upminemitra.in portal with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change's 'Parivesh' portal.
This will streamline the monitoring of environmental clearance certificates and accelerate enforcement actions in mining regions, the statement added. PTI CDN MR

TCS to lay off over 12,000 employees this year; mid, senior level staff to be impacted
New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) India's largest IT services firm, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), is set to lay off about 2 per cent, or 12,261 employees, of its global workforce this year, with the majority of those impacted belonging to middle and senior grades. As of June 30, 2025, TCS's workforce stood at 6,13,069. It increased its workforce by 5,000 employees in the recently concluded April-June quarter. The move is part of the company's broader strategy to become a "future-ready organisation", focusing on investments in technology, AI deployment, market expansion, and workforce realignment, TCS said in a statement. "TCS is on a journey to become a Future-Ready organisation. This includes strategic initiatives on multiple fronts, including investing in new-tech areas, entering new markets, deploying AI at scale for our clients and ourselves, deepening our partnerships, creating next-gen infrastructure, and realigning our workforce model. "Towards this, a number of reskilling and redeployment initiatives have been underway. As part of this journey, we will also be releasing associates from the organisation whose deployment may not be feasible. This will impact about 2 per cent of our global workforce, primarily in the middle and the senior grades, over the course of the year," it said. Govt plans to install 400 new BSNL towers in Naxalite-affected and remote areas in Chhattisgarh
The Central government of India is planning to install 400 new BSNL towers in the Naxalite-affected and remote areas of Chhattisgarh to improve the region's digital communications, reported the news agency PTI, citing Union Minister Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, on Sunday, 27 July 2025. 'The Central government is working on a plan to install 400 new BSNL towers in the Naxal-affected and remote areas of Chhattisgarh to strengthen digital communication,' said Minister Pemmasani. According to the agency report, the Minister said that the towers will be installed in phases after the required approvals from the security forces and the forest department are obtained. The CM held talks with Indian High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule, who shared insights into Singapore's achievements in diverse areas, its robust economic growth and the effective public policies being implemented there. Naidu shared details of the state's newly introduced policies, aimed at attracting investments across various sectors. The state has set an ambitious target of producing 160 gigawatts of green energy, he added. He informed the High Commissioner that green hydrogen projects have already been launched in Visakhapatnam (in partnership with NTPC) and Kakinada. Under the India Quantum Mission, Andhra Pradesh is set to establish the country's 'first-ever Quantum Valley' in Amaravati, said Naidu, adding that global tech leader Google is setting up a data center in Visakhapatnam.
