2 Dallas residents sentenced after pleading guilty to selling over $600,000 of fentanyl
Two Dallas residents have been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to distributing over $600,000 worth of fentanyl, according to the United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of Texas.
In October, Christle Nadia Ruiz, 22, and Ricardo Antonio Flores, 29, pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl. They were sentenced on June 26 to 188 months each in prison.
Flores and Ruiz lived together and sold fentanyl out of a home in Dallas, USAO said.
In February 2023, Flores sold 1,000 fentanyl pills and another 1,000 fentanyl pills in March 2023. Both times in exchange for $2,000.
In April 2023, Ruiz received a shipment of approximately 50,000 fentanyl pills that she and Flores were planning to distribute, USAO said. On the same day, while officers executed a search warrant at their home, Ruiz attempted to flush several fentanyl pills down the toilet.

Ruiz also allegedly received approximately 10,000 fentanyl pills about a month before the search warrant was executed. According to USAO, she used a social media account with the phrases "Happy vibes . . . Thug Paradise," advertising the sale of fentanyl.
"The staggering amount of fentanyl in this case would have caused far-reaching devastation to our families and community, but for the tremendous efforts of our law enforcement partners in apprehending these defendants and keeping this deadly poison off the streets," said acting United States Attorney Nancy Larson. "We are resolved to relentlessly pursue these offenders and seek the lengthy prison sentences they deserve."

Inmate fatally shoots North Carolina officer before being caught in stolen vehicle, sheriff says
A federal inmate escaped from custody at a medical clinic in western North Carolina and fatally shot a detention officer with his own gun Monday, then fled in a stolen vehicle before being captured in another county, a sheriff said. Another officer suffered injuries unrelated to the shooting and was recovering, the sheriff said. 'This has been probably one of the worst days of my career,' Smith said. Emergency personnel in Clay County had alerted Macon County deputies that the inmate was driving to their county on U.S. Route 64, authorities said. Simmons' vehicle was stopped and he was detained after a short standoff. There were no injuries at the scene. Smith said Simmons was already being held on bank robbery charges along with an October 2024 escape.

Driver flees scene of deadly south Sacramento hit-and-run, police say
A search is underway for a driver who fled the scene after hitting and killing a pedestrian in the south Sacramento area, police said Monday night. Sacramento police said it happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the area of Fruitridge Road and 24th Street. The pedestrian, only described as an adult woman, was declared dead at the scene. A description of the suspect vehicle was not available. The collision forced an extended closure of Fruitridge Road between 24th and 28th streets.

Police said medics arrived and helped retrieve a pulse from the man, who was eventually taken to a hospital. He was declared dead on Sunday. Elk Grove police said the cocaine was found on the man while he was restrained in the back of the patrol car. The department also said that two officers suffered minor injuries during the struggle. The Sacramento District Attorney's Office is also investigating.
