Jailed paedophile given five more life sentences

Yahoo24-06-2025
A jailed child sex offender has been given an extra five life sentences after 13 more victims emerged following media coverage of his case.
Former London bus driver Carson Grimes, 69, who lived in Luton, had admitted 24 further offences including rape and indecent assault.
In 2021, Grimes was given two life sentences after being convicted of 36 serious sexual offences relating to nine victims after a trial.
On Tuesday, Judge Allison Hunter imposed the additional life sentences during a hearing at Luton Crown Court.
In 2021, a judge had said Grimes must spend a minimum of 22 years in jail before parole could be considered.
Judge Hunter said on Tuesday that Grimes should now spend 22 years and nine months in prison before parole could be considered.
She told Grimes: "I hope you never see the light of freedom again."
The court heard how Grimes, of Dumfries Street, Luton, had admitted sex offences against 13 more victims - between 1987 and 2001.
Detectives said media reporting, including an episode of the Channel 4 series 24 Hours in Police Custody, led to more people making allegations following the original trial.
Victims of sex offences cannot be identified in media reports - unless they give permission.
Judge Hunter said Grimes had systematically abused the "most vulnerable" children.
She said the male victims featuring in the latest case had been boys aged between 11 and 16 when Grimes abused them.
"You variously groomed and terrified them into submission," she said.
"None of your victims had the remotest idea what they were getting into.
"I am more than satisfied that you continue to pose the gravest of danger to children and young people of both sexes."
The court heard how Grimes "created a frightening legend", showing his victims weapons and telling them he had been a commando.
Alesdair King, for Grimes, said his client had health problems, adding it was likely he spend the rest of his life in jail.
He said Grimes had admitted the latest offences.
The original trial in 2021 heard how Grimes abused children in the 1980s when he lived in London, and his behaviour escalated when he moved to Bedfordshire and continued until about 2002.
Jurors found him guilty of 19 counts of rape, 11 of indecent assault and six of indecency with a child.
Grimes pleaded guilty to the 24 new charges at Luton Crown Court in April.
Bedfordshire Police then described Grimes - also known as Carson Phillips - as one of "Bedfordshire's most prolific sex offenders" and one of his victims described his home as a "horror house".
Det Insp Clare Gilbert described the paedophile as an "horrific predator".
She had said he had said he had an "elevated sense of self-worth" and believed he could "prey on vulnerable children and get away with it".

Hunter Biden begged DNC to pay his legal fees for tax, gun cases: new tome

WASHINGTON — Then-first son Hunter Biden begged the Democratic National Committee to foot his mounting legal bills for the federal tax and gun charges he faced last year, according to an explosive new tell-all. The DNC was paying the legal fees for dad Joe Biden, who was still president at the time, over a separate federal probe into whether the commander in chief hoarded classified documents — but scoffed at also covering Hunter's extra legal costs, says the book '2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America.' By June 2024, Hunter's 'sugar brother' Kevin Morris had already paid off more than $2 million in tax delinquency related to one of then-first son's criminal cases and had been shelling out even more for his related legal bills. Hunter's legal tab as the presidential contest ramped up in January 2024 stood at around $5 million, Morris testified to House Republican investigators. Advertisement Morris' daughter later accused the troubled first son of 'taking advantage' of her father's largesse. 3 The seamy first son was convicted of three felony gun charges June 11, 2024. Last month, the law firm that represented Hunter also sued him for reneging on more than $50,000 in legal fees. Hunter was convicted of three felony gun charges June 11, 2024, and pleaded guilty to multiple tax felonies for evading $1.4 million in payments to the IRS in September. Advertisement His father months later pardoned him of all those charges as well as any related to potential crimes he may have committed between Jan. 1, 2014, and Dec. 1, 2024. 3 Former President Joe Biden handed his son a controversial sweeping pardon before leaving office. WireImage 'The only thing I care about is that my son is not convicted,' Biden told a close friend before Hunter's first conviction, according to journalists Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf in their forthcoming book, which was excerpted Thursday in the Wall Street Journal. The president at one point considered forming a legal defense fund for his son to push back on the federal probe as well as the parallel congressional investigation into Hunter's foreign influence peddling that could potentially implicate him. Reps for the DNC and Hunter's former lawyer, Abbe Lowell, did not respond to Post requests for comment.

Drivers seen 'racing' at illegal street car meet

More than 100 vehicles were seen at an illegal car meet on the borders of North and West Yorkshire, police have said. An organised event involving "racing on the roads and dangerous driving" took place on a road between Sherburn in Elmet and South Milford on Sunday evening. North Yorkshire Police said the "cruise" put passing members of the public "at risk of serious injury or worse". The force said details of registration plates had been taken and those involved could face prosecution. Insp Clive Turner said: "Driving in such a dangerous manner on public roads is completely unacceptable and risk the lives of those driving, those watching, and innocent members of the public." Many drivers who were not detained when officers broke up the gathering would receive court summonses by post, he added. Police have appealed to the public who may have any footage of the meeting to come forward. North Yorkshire Police have released previous warnings about illegal car meets and street racing in the area, and in March 2024 closed down an event at Selby Fork on the old A1. Drivers were reported to be parked in live lanes and a crackdown on the gatherings in partnership with West Yorkshire Police was announced.
