More than 100 vehicles were seen at an illegal car meet on the borders of North and West Yorkshire, police have said.
An organised event involving "racing on the roads and dangerous driving" took place on a road between Sherburn in Elmet and South Milford on Sunday evening.
North Yorkshire Police said the "cruise" put passing members of the public "at risk of serious injury or worse".
The force said details of registration plates had been taken and those involved could face prosecution.
Insp Clive Turner said: "Driving in such a dangerous manner on public roads is completely unacceptable and risk the lives of those driving, those watching, and innocent members of the public."
Many drivers who were not detained when officers broke up the gathering would receive court summonses by post, he added.
Police have appealed to the public who may have any footage of the meeting to come forward.
North Yorkshire Police have released previous warnings about illegal car meets and street racing in the area, and in March 2024 closed down an event at Selby Fork on the old A1.
Drivers were reported to be parked in live lanes and a crackdown on the gatherings in partnership with West Yorkshire Police was announced.

Speed camera knocked down in 'deliberate attack' just hours before it was set to go live

A region's inaugural fixed speed camera has been toppled in a malicious act – mere hours before it was set to be activated. Installed by North Yorkshire Council as part of a trial scheme on the A64 in Sherburn, replacing temporary mobile setups, the camera was intended to start enforcing the 30 mph speed limit from today (Tuesday, July 1). Yet, at approximately 2.20am, the camera was demolished, leaving live wires dangerously exposed. Highways employee Sean Flood, 60, rushed to the scene following the incident. Upon arriving, he reported: "I got there and it was flat, I got there at 3am. At half past two it had been knocked over. Confirming their intention to relocate the camera within the village, North Yorkshire Police are investigating the episode, clearly viewing the vandalism as an intentional act rather than accidental. The police lamented: "It is disappointing to see that something intended to help keep the village safe and protect members of the public has been targeted by vandals." They appealed for witnesses or those with relevant footage captured by dashcams or doorbell cameras to assist the inquiry, urging: "Anyone who has any information about those responsible, including anyone who witnessed it or has footage from a dashcam or doorbell camera, is asked to get in touch." Responses on social media appear largely to favour the suspected vandals. Commenter Chris Thorpe was moved to say: "Not all heroes wear capes." Adam Ruddock expressed his commendation with a brief: "Well done." Ian Hollywood also shared praise, remarking: "This was done by a true Yorkshire person! Well done." The camera was set to operate around the clock for a three-month trial period. North Yorkshire's constabulary, whilst having previously utilised mobile cameras for speed enforcement, had not until now had a permanent speed camera within the shire.

‘Blackout challenge' blamed for death of child in shocking ‘tragedy': ‘A boy full of dreams'

A 12-year-old UK boy named Sebastian has died after allegedly participating in the dangerous TikTok 'blackout challenge,' which hypes a form of self-strangulation by challenging users to see how long they can go holding their breath. It's sadly claimed the lives of multiple youngsters. According to a statement by the West Yorkshire Police, authorities had been tipped off by ambulance services about the dire condition of a youth at a house in Castleford on June 27, Yorkshire Live reported. The boy was transported to the hospital, but unfortunately died shortly thereafter. The coroners are currently probing the deceased's cause of death, which they don't believe to be 'suspicious' in nature. GoFundMe organizer Agnieszka Czerniejewska described Sebastian (pictured) as a 'boy full of dreams, passion, and incredible talent.' GoFundMe On a GoFundMe page launched on behalf of Sebastian's parents, organizer Agnieszka Czerniejewska said that the boy lost his life due to participation in the 'blackout challenge.' This dangerous game — one of several potentially fatal fads to circulate TikTok — can restrict oxygen to the brain, potentially resulting in seizures, serious injury or death. In 2022, the Independent reported that at least 20 deaths had been linked to this asphyxiation game in 18 months, with 15 of the victims being just 12 or younger. Czerniejewska dubbed the youngster's death a 'tragedy beyond words.' Parents need to be more aware of what their children are partaking in online. Getty Images 'His parents gave him all the love and care in the world — but that one moment online changed everything,' she wrote on the page, which has garnered over $6,000 in donations at the time of writing. She described Sebastian as a 'boy full of dreams, passion, and incredible talent.' 'He taught himself to play the guitar and keyboard, and he loved to draw,' lamented the organizer, who is using the incident as a cautionary tale against the perils of online challenges. 'Talk to your children about what they do online,' she implored. 'Ask what they watch, who they talk to, what inspires them. Be present. Don't assume: 'My child would never do that.' The online world can be as dangerous as the real one — sometimes even more so.' Czerniejewska said she wanted to ensure that Sebastian's passing wasn't 'in vain.' 'Let it be a quiet call for awareness — a reminder to stay close, to talk more, to protect the ones we love,' she declared. 'So that other children may live. So that no other parent has to experience this unimaginable pain.'
