Drivers seen 'racing' at illegal street car meet
An organised event involving "racing on the roads and dangerous driving" took place on a road between Sherburn in Elmet and South Milford on Sunday evening.
North Yorkshire Police said the "cruise" put passing members of the public "at risk of serious injury or worse".
The force said details of registration plates had been taken and those involved could face prosecution.
Insp Clive Turner said: "Driving in such a dangerous manner on public roads is completely unacceptable and risk the lives of those driving, those watching, and innocent members of the public."
Many drivers who were not detained when officers broke up the gathering would receive court summonses by post, he added.
Police have appealed to the public who may have any footage of the meeting to come forward.
North Yorkshire Police have released previous warnings about illegal car meets and street racing in the area, and in March 2024 closed down an event at Selby Fork on the old A1.
Drivers were reported to be parked in live lanes and a crackdown on the gatherings in partnership with West Yorkshire Police was announced.

Speed camera knocked down in 'deliberate attack' just hours before it was set to go live
A region's inaugural fixed speed camera has been toppled in a malicious act – mere hours before it was set to be activated. Installed by North Yorkshire Council as part of a trial scheme on the A64 in Sherburn, replacing temporary mobile setups, the camera was intended to start enforcing the 30 mph speed limit from today (Tuesday, July 1). A 12-year-old UK boy named Sebastian has died after allegedly participating in the dangerous TikTok 'blackout challenge,' which hypes a form of self-strangulation by challenging users to see how long they can go holding their breath. It's sadly claimed the lives of multiple youngsters. According to a statement by the West Yorkshire Police, authorities had been tipped off by ambulance services about the dire condition of a youth at a house in Castleford on June 27, Yorkshire Live reported. The boy was transported to the hospital, but unfortunately died shortly thereafter. The coroners are currently probing the deceased's cause of death, which they don't believe to be 'suspicious' in nature.
