Lakbai Guitar Duo to take center stage
It is part of the Embassy's activities to commemorate the 127th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2025.
The cultural group, Lakbai Guitar Duo, is composed of Mr. Jeffrey Malazo and Ms. Jennifer de Vera.
The couple are both under the Philippine Madrigal Singers Company of Artists.
The Lakbai Guitar Duo has performed across the Philippines and in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, US, Netherlands, Japan, Korea, Sweden and Kenya.
Their biggest adventure was their Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in 2019, when they walked 800 km from France to Spain carrying their guitars and performing for their fellow pilgrims for 30 days.
The Lakbai Guitar Duo won Guitar Ensemble Competitions in Malaysia and Japan in 2014 and 2015, respectively. They received the Philippines' Ani ng Dangal for Music Award in 2016, and were finalists in the Pilipinas Got Talent Season 6 in 2018.
Musical styles In addition to playing classical guitar music, the duo aims to revolutionize classical guitar music by exploring other musical styles. The Lakbai Guitar Duo will hold a concert on 20 June 2025 at 4-6PM at the Cultural Hall.

The winner, 27-year-old Coleen Jane Dobles from Butuan City, emerged as a standout for her composure, eloquence and vision. Runner-up titles went to Maricon Albuna Gregorio, 28, from Bulacan, and Anne Jelyn Rafael, 22, who also clinched two special awards. The judging panel praised all finalists for embodying confidence and determination, qualities often mirrored in the lives of Bahrain's thousands of OFWs. Filipino Club Bahrain President Rosemarie Hernandez called the event 'a celebration of the modern Filipina spirit abroad' and emphasised its role in nurturing leadership and unity within the diaspora. Support from mission The evening's prestige was marked by the presence of top officials from the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain, including H.E. Ambassador Anne Jalando-on Louis and newly assigned Labour Attaché Orville Balitoc. Their attendance underscored the embassy's backing for initiatives that support OFW empowerment and cultural expression. Also in attendance were Consul Bryan Jess Baguio, MWO Officer-in-Charge Celia Cabadonga, OWWA Welfare Officer Juvilyn Anns Gumabay, and Mr. Yusuf Lori of the Capital Governorate. Their participation highlighted growing collaboration between diaspora groups and institutions. Soft power, strong message Beyond the crown, the pageant served as a powerful statement of identity. In a region where OFWs often face difficult work conditions, events like this offer a much-needed platform for self-expression, visibility and cultural continuity. Backed by sponsors such as Philippine Airlines, Gulf Medical & Diabetes Center and BFC, the initiative reflects how cultural diplomacy and community solidarity continue to shape Bahrain's inclusive social fabric. This was not just a beauty contest but a proud celebration of identity, unity and the strength of Filipinas abroad.

Philippines Grants Visa-Free Entry To Indian Tourists From June 8
Indian nationals can now enter the Philippines without a visa for up to 30 days under new immigration rules coming into effect on June 8, 2025, according to an advisory issued by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai. Under the revised visa policy quoted by the Filipino missions in the UAE, Indian passport holders can enter the Philippines without a visa for tourism purposes for up to 14 days, provided they meet the following requirements: a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, confirmed hotel accommodation or booking, proof of financial capacity and a return or onward ticket to another country. The 14-day stay is non-extendible and non-convertible, meaning tourists must exit the country before the end of the two-week period. However, Indian nationals holding valid and current visas or residence permits from the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, Schengen states, Singapore or the United Kingdom (collectively known as AJACSSUK countries) are eligible for a visa-free stay of up to 30 days. This 30-day stay is also non-extendible, and travellers must present a valid passport and a return or onward ticket. Both categories require that the individual have no derogatory immigration record with the Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI). The advisory clarifies that the visa-free entry privileges apply only to short-term tourism. 'Indian nationals transiting in the Philippines or entering the country for long-term visits and non-tourism activities are required to apply for an appropriate Philippine visa at a Philippine Embassy or Consulate in their country of origin, place of legal residence, or any country that requires entry visas for Indian nationals,' the advisory pointed out. The relaxed immigration policy is expected to benefit several Indian expats in the UAE.
