Kuwait Cricket goes global – invited to the prestigious Hong Kong Sixes 2025
This thrilling and fast-paced international tournament will take place from 31st October to 2nd November 2025 in Hong Kong. With Kuwait currently ranked 23rd in the ICC Men's T20I Rankings, this invitation is a huge endorsement of the nation's rapid rise and performance on the international cricketing stage.
The Hong Kong Sixes — which made a spectacular return in 2024 — is one of the most entertaining formats in cricket, featuring a six-a-side structure that was a forerunner to modern T20 and T10 cricket. Known for its high-octane action, global appeal, and elite competition, the 2025 edition will feature full-member nations alongside top-performing associate countries, and Kuwait is proudly among them.
This invitation comes on the back of Kuwait's stellar performances in recent years:
Qualified for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers – a key step toward the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India & Sri Lanka.
Runners-up in the ILT20 Gulf Cup 2024, after a thrilling final vs UAE.
T20I Champions of the Hong Kong Men's Series, defeating Nepal in a statement victory.
KCC President Mr. Haider Farman thanked the Hong Kong Cricket Board for recognizing Kuwait's consistent progress and providing a platform alongside full-member teams, stating, 'Being part of an iconic global tournament like the Hong Kong Sixes puts Kuwait on the world map. It's a proud moment for our country and a powerful validation of Kuwait Cricket's development journey.'He also commended Hong Kong Cricket for reviving this legendary format and honoring emerging nations like Kuwait with such a prestigious invite.
KCC Director General Mr. Sajid Ashraf added, 'The Hong Kong Sixes was a childhood favorite for many of us. To see Kuwait participating is a dream realized. The journey has been long, but the players' sacrifices and relentless efforts are finally paying off. Competing alongside cricketing giants like India, England, Australia, and Pakistan is a major milestone.' He credited this achievement to the efforts and hard work of KCC's High Performance Committee, Head Coach Qasim Ali, and long-standing captain Mohammad Aslam.
'Coach Qasim Ali has instilled a professional mindset and winning culture over the past two years. Mohammad Aslam, leading for six years, has guided this team through its most successful era yet. Their combined leadership has brought consistency, growth, and many proud moments for Kuwait Cricket.'
This prestigious participation marks another historic milestone for Kuwait Cricket. With a strong foundation built over the past 5 years — from grassroots development to elite player performance — Kuwait is now ready to showcase its flair, skill, and fighting spirit on one of the most entertaining and globally celebrated stages in cricket.

England to host next three World Test Championship finals
LONDON: England's team celebrate during their third cricket Test match between against India at Lord's cricket ground in London, on July 14, 2025. – AFP LONDON: England will stage the next three World Test Championship finals after the successful hosting of the first three showpiece matches, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Sunday. The most recent final took place last month, when South Africa were crowned champions for the first time after defeating holders Australia at Lord's. Nearly 110,000 people went through the gates of the London ground over the course of a Test lasting four days. India were reportedly keen to host the next final in two years' time but England have been awarded the finals of the 2027, 2029 and 2031 editions. At its annual conference in Singapore, the ICC noted England's 'successful track record in hosting recent finals', even though Ben Stokes's side are yet to reach the one-off showpiece. 'We are absolutely delighted that England and Wales has been chosen to host the next three ICC World Test Championship finals,' said England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive Richard Gould. 'It's a testament to the passion that fans in this country have for this treasured format of the game and the willingness of supporters from around the world to travel here for these games.' Nine teams contest the WTC and each nation plays six other sides — three home and three away — over the course of a two-year cycle. Teams are ranked by percentage of points won because they play a different number of matches within those six series. — AFP

South Africa wins the World Test Championship
LONDON, June 14 (AP): Chokers no more. The South Africans consigned the word to history when they ripped the World Test Championship mace from Australia's callused grip inside four days of a riveting final at Lord's. South Africa wore a new label Saturday - champion - by claiming its first major cricket trophy in 27 years when it wrapped up a five-wicket win. The last 69 runs required on day four were confidently knocked off by the Proteas in just over two hours, only three boundaries, with Australia typically fighting to the inevitable end. South Africa moved from a portentous 213-2 overnight to a winning 285-5, the second highest successful run chase in the 141-year test history at the home of cricket. Victory laid to rest the ghosts of heartbreaking losses on big ICC stages that have haunted South Africa for decades. The venues and dates are infamous in South African cricket, among them Birmingham 1999, Dhaka 2011, Auckland 2015, Kolkata 2023, and Bridgetown 2024. But London 2025 will go down as one of the greatest days in South African sports, when its cricket underdogs grabbed the advantage and didn't let go against a red-hot Australia. "Whilst we were batting, we could hear the Aussies using that dreaded word, choke," Proteas captain Temba Bavuma said. It's been years since we've overcome a final. We've been etched in history, we're part of something that has never been done. It's special in a lot of ways. Also, it's a chance for South Africa to be united. We've got a cause where we can put aside our differences and enjoy. We just have to embrace it.' The stunning result also bodes well for South Africa's preparations for its home ODI World Cup in 2027. It's a different format, but the Proteas' mindsets won't be burdened by not having won a global trophy since the Champions Trophy's precursor in 1998. Australia didn't give up the WTC mace easily, relentlessly attacking the stumps and trying to prey on any South African butterflies. The desperate Australians used up their three reviews in vain within the first 90 minutes and fought to the end. But the serial champions lost an ICC final for only a fourth time in 14 chances. "They were fantastic in that fourth innings,' Australia captain Pat Cummins said. "There wasn't a lot in the wicket, but they didn't give us a chance.' The Proteas were staunch, losing only three wickets on Saturday. One of them was Aiden Markram, the colossus Australia could not topple until it was too late. He resumed the day on 102 and was out for 136 when only six runs from victory. He spent six hours, 23 minutes in the middle. Australia didn't celebrate his wicket. Instead, players slapped Markram on the back and congratulated him on his match-winning knock as the Lord's crowd stood and applauded. "Growing up, Lord's was the one venue I wanted to play at,' Markram said. "To do it at a final and win is something special.'
