Remember these Miami TV anchors from years past? ‘May the good news be yours'

Miami Herald21-03-2025
Miami TV stations may swap network affiliations and even spots on the dial. But what seems to stay the same year after year are the anchors who you see every day on the news.
South Florida is known for its anchored anchors who have decades-long staying power. At Channel 7, it's Craig Stevens. Channel 4's Elliott Rodriguez and 10's Calvin Hughes are familiar faces who have been on air for what seems like a lifetime.
There has been a tradition of permanence here.
Ralph Renick, the news anchor of Miami's first TV station, WTVJ, went on the air in the 1940s and signed off in the 1980s. His signature line every evening: 'May the good news be yours.'
Channel 10's Ann Bishop also was on the air for more than three decades.
And remember Wayne Fariss, anchor of Channel 7's 'Big News' with Richard Whitcomb? Maybe your grandfather does.
What about Dwight Lauderdale, Rick Sanchez and Ana Azcuy?
Let's dip into the Miami Herald photo archives for a look at TV news anchors of the past:

New Bonnie Blue documentary includes footage from her controversial sex stunt

It was the tabloid story of 2024 when OnlyFans creator Bonnie Blue declared that she'd slept with over 1,000 people in 12 hours. Her stunt instigated a conversation around whether 26-year-old Blue, whose real name is Tia Billinger, was carving a new path for feminism or destroying the one that had been laid out for her. 1000 Men and Me: The Bonnie Blue Story airs on Channel 4 on Tuesday 29 July at 10pm and will explore the life of Blue around the time of the stunt and in the months following. It also features behind the scenes footage from the infamous event. Press material says: 'This resulting documentary goes behind the headlines, clickbait and ragebait to discover what life's really like in Bonnie's wild orbit, how she got here and what's really going on behind those steely blue eyes. 'The film sensitively explores the central question polarising debate about her: Is she a 'dangerous predator', pandering to male fantasies and perpetuating the patriarchy? Or an empowered, sex positive, businesswoman having the last laugh?' Read more: Director Victoria Silver added: 'Bonnie Blue refuses to conform to public opinion and lives life by her own rules. At a time when factual TV is awash with retrospective stories, I wanted to capture the energy of a live and evolving story, with a woman at the heart of it who's living her life in such a bold way.' Channel 4's Commissioning Editor Tim Hancock said the documentary includes 'incredible access' to a story 'at the edges of modern morality' that will leave the audience 'questioning their own presumptions' about one of the UK's most polarising people. In June of this year, Blue announced she would be running a 'petting zoo' event with the aim of allowing 2,000 men to have sex with her. She hoped to be tied up in a glass box for the stunt, which reportedly had her banned from OnlyFans on the grounds of it violating their policy against 'extreme challenges.' The six-part series stars Katherine Kelly as Jo, a single mother and flight attendant whose life takes a dark turn when her teenage son is sentenced to 15 years in a Bulgarian prison and she's forcing Jo to smuggle drugs for a gang who has inside knowledge on his case. "[Jo] soon finds herself pulled into a murky underworld of corrupt cops and hired killers, forced to carry out their orders with no escape in sight. Speaking of her role, Katherine Kelly said: "I am really excited to be taking on the role of Jo and I can't wait to tell her compelling story. I am delighted to be working with Buccaneer Media again and it's joy to be filming in Belfast." 'The Couple Next Door' Season 2: Breaking Down The Ending Of The Twisty Drama

Fans of Channel 4's The Couple Next Door need no disclaimer when it comes to the messiness that goes on in the cul-de-sac that is The Crescent, and since the release of season two on July 14, we've been welcomed back into the high-stakes drama that goes on in the street, as this season turned its focus to more inhabitants of the neighbourhood, both old and new. Enter heart surgeon, Charlotte Roberts (Annabel Scholey), and her husband, consultant anaesthetist Jacob (Sam Palladio) who are central to the unfolding of the drama. On the surface the pair seem to be fairly happy, however, before long the cracks of their relationship become glaringly clear, thanks to the introduction of new neighbour and colleague Mia (Aggy K Adams). Shrouded in mystery, Mia is a surgical nurse at the hospital who is anything but straightforward. On the run from a dark past, her enigmatic nature draws both Charlotte and Jacob in. Before long, her presence makes the couple wonder if their relationship needs shaking up - possibly with the help of Mia. Adding fuel to the fire is Charlotte's ex, Leo (Sendhil Ramamurthy), whose surprise return home shocks everyone and threatens to dismantle her marriage even further. Soon it becomes clear that the duo has residual feelings left over from the relationship that they shared while in university. But things start to turn as the couple increasingly welcome Mia into their relationship. As expected, the series delivers on raunch - a given, of course, when you open your marriage to your neighbour and colleague, whose mystique quickly switches from charming to borderline dangerous. As well as this, the emotional fallout from their escapades comes to a head as Charlotte begins to develop feelings for Mia. Before any of this can form any real shape, all eyes are on Mia for the wrong reasons as it emerges three hospital patients under her care have died mysteriously, including Leo's father - and she's banned from the hospital and talking to her colleagues. More questions about the mysterious nurse remain after her psychotherapist, who has been calling all series trying to track her down, ends up at her house. As the series comes to a close in the sixth episode, Charlotte begins to become suspicious of her husband - and whether he has an involvement in the three deaths at the hospital. She enlists the help of Leo and her friend, Gemma - and promises to keep him busy in surgery, while trying to act normally. Eventually it becomes clear Jacob was the culprit, not Mia - and he confesses to Charlotte. After a mistake with the first patient, he decided that framing Mia for more deaths would lead to Mia getting in trouble - and saving his marriage. Jacob refuses to take the blame though, and instead drugs Charlotte and writes a suicide note that wrongly says she had lied for Mia. However, when CCTV of him entering Leo's father's room emerges, Leo, Ben and Gemma swiftly move to have Jacob arrested - and Charlotte is saved just in time. Despite Alan trying to pin her former therapist Isak's behaviour to him and calling the police, Isak gets away - with Mia's money that she took from her parents ill-gotten gains. Mia then - once she knows Charlotte has survived - is clear to go where she wishes. Eventually, the viewer learns, she's settled in Antwerp (where she had that encounter with Charlotte and Jacob) and is acting as a tour guide. Though she does seem to set her sights on a new couple... Alan is safe despite being thrown down the stairs, and completes his community service. He even finds a potential love interest in Mia's friend, Yvonne. Between the series' steamy scenes, murky neighbours and concealed secrets, season two of The Couple Next Door is nothing short of a complete and total whirlwind.
