Sarawak GOF foils RM11.93m smuggling attempts in raids
Its deputy commander ACP Rosdi Inai said in the first operation carried out at 4.30 am yesterday, the GOF detained two trailer lorries in Sri Aman suspected of transporting smuggled goods.
'Checks on both vehicles uncovered 21,500 cartons of white cigarettes and 51,216 litres of liquor, believed to have been brought in without the payment of duties and valid permits.
'Two local men aged 44 and 50 were also detained, while the two trailer lorries along with four containers were seized. The seizure is estimated to be worth RM10.47 million,' he said in a statement here today.
Rosdi said in the second operation on June 8 at about 9.30 pm, the GOF detained two lorries in Bau suspected of transporting rattan without valid documents, and arrested two local men aged 25 and 33.
'Inspections uncovered 15 tonnes of rattan, with the total seizure valued at RM620,000,' he said.
Meanwhile, Rosdi said in two separate operations on June 6, the GOF seized frozen products in Bau district and arrested a 49-year-old local man.
'At the first location, a lorry carrying 7,800 kilogrammes of frozen meat without a permit was detained at 10.05 pm, with the seizure valued at approximately RM488,600.
'At the second location, at 6.10 am in Padawan, a 27-year-old man was detained. A Toyota Harrier SUV, reported to have been fraudulently obtained, was seized. The vehicle is estimated to be worth RM175,000,' he said.
He added that all seized items were handed over to the Sri Aman Police headquarters, Kuching Division of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), Bau Branch of Sarawak Veterinary Department and Padawan Police headquarters for further action and investigation.

KOTA KINABALU (July 15): The Sabah Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) has dismantled a network of crude palm oil (CPO) smuggling syndicates operating along the west and east coasts of Sabah through a series of raids conducted since January. Sabah Brigade GOF Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rani Alias, said eight raids were carried out under Op Kontraban (Op Taring Palma), involving various GOF battalions. 'The operation involved personnel from BN14 Tawau, BN15 Sandakan, BN16 Kota Kinabalu, BN17 Lahad Datu, BN20 Beluran, BN21 Keningau and BN22 Kunak,' he said in a statement on Tuesday. A total of 26 individuals were arrested — comprising 21 local men, four Filipinos and one Indonesian. Abdul Rani said the suspects were believed to be involved in the illegal storage and transfer of CPO without valid licences and had failed to submit the required documentation. 'The total value of the seizures is estimated at RM11.87 million, which includes CPO worth RM1.89 million, vehicles such as lorries and trailers worth RM9.32 million, and various equipment valued at RM650,890,' he said. He added that the operation successfully disrupted the activities of organised syndicates involved in the illegal distribution and smuggling of CPO across Sabah's coasts. The GOF, he said, will continue to conduct such operations to safeguard public safety and ensure the well-being of the community. Abdul Rani also urged the public to report any suspicious activities in their areas to the authorities.

Man arrested within 24 hours over snatch theft at Kota Baru car park
KOTA BARU: Police arrested a man within 24 hours after a snatch theft incident at a shopping complex car park here on Sunday. Kota Baru police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the suspect was detained about 9am yesterday following a report lodged by the victim, a woman. "According to the victim, she was walking through the car park at 7.25pm when she was approached by a man on a red motorcycle. "The motorcyclist then snatched her handbag and escaped," he said. He added that the victim estimated a loss of about RM220. He said police also seized several items related to the case, including the motorcycle, a t-shirt, and a pair of black trousers. "Further investigations revealed the suspect is also linked to five other snatch theft reports in Kota Baru. "A urine test conducted on the suspect returned negative for drugs," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery. Rosdi said the suspect would be remanded soon.

Its commander, SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang, said the operation, which involved the cooperation of the intelligence and infantry units from the 10th and 11th PGA Battalions, led to the arrest of nine individuals aged between 24 and 62, including an Indonesian. He said in the operation conducted on July 7 in Bau, a 40-year-old local man was arrested after 350 boxes of frozen food without a valid permit, with an estimated value of RM209,600, were found in his lorry. In the operation conducted on July 8 in Sibu, he said the GOF raided a premises and arrested two men, a local and an Indonesian, aged 24 and 40, respectively. 'Also seized were 238 kilogrammes of frozen food, a forklift and a vehicle with a total value of RM479,099,' he said in a statement here today. Meanwhile, in an operation conducted on July 9, Che Ghazali said a 34-year-old local man was arrested in Lundu for transporting diesel without a permit, leading to the seizure of 230 litres of diesel and 10 jerrycans, estimated at RM81,155.50. 'In Kota Samarahan on the same day, two local men aged 26 and 32 were arrested after they were found having 18,000 litres of diesel without a permit. The diesel, 17 IBC tanks, and a tanker lorry with an estimated value of RM218,840 were seized,' he said. In an operation conducted on July 10, he said, the PGA raided a premises in Kuching and seized 4,500 litres of diesel, 13 IBC tanks, two skid tanks, 25 PVC hoses, two pump engines and a tanker lorry.
