EU Ambassadors: We Value Al-Azhar's Global Role in Promoting Coexistence, Dialogue

Mohamed Mandour Dr. Mohamed Ad-Duweini, Deputy of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, received a delegation of ambassadors and representatives from European Union member states at Al-Azhar Mosque. The delegation was headed by Ms. Angelina Eichhorst, EU Ambassador to Egypt, and included Dr. Rita Herencsár, Ambassador of Hungary; Ms. Polly Ioannou, Ambassador of Cyprus; Mr. Bart De Groof, Ambassador of Belgium; Ms. Ingrid Amer, Ambassador of Estonia; Ms. Nuala O'Brien, Ambassador of Ireland; Mr. Nikolaos Papageorgiou, Ambassador of Greece; Ms. Riikka Eela, Ambassador of Finland; Mr. Roberto Pace, Ambassador of Malta; Mr. Jürgen Schulz, Ambassador of Germany; Mr. Daniel Rafaelić, Diplomatic Advisor at the Croatian Embassy in Cairo; Ms. Lucia Bartáková, Chargée d'Affaires at the Slovak Embassy in Cairo; and Mr. Adrian Gaman, Deputy Head of Mission at the Romanian Embassy in Cairo. In his remarks, Dr. Ad-Duweini emphasized that Al-Azhar places the promotion of dialogue, tolerance, and fraternity at the forefront of its global mission, as championed by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Dr. Ahmad At-Tayyeb. He noted that the Grand Imam has undertaken numerous visits to European countries and held several meetings with church leaders, culminating in the landmark Document on Human Fraternity, signed jointly with Pope Francis and recognized by the United Nations as the International Day of Human Fraternity. This historic initiative has helped establish new global standards for peaceful coexistence, justice for the marginalized, and the rejection of hate speech. Dr. Ad-Duweini highlighted Al-Azhar's pivotal role in disseminating the authentic message of Islam globally. He noted that over 40,000 international students currently study in Al-Azhar's institutions and that Al-Azhar dispatches carefully selected emissaries to countries around the world to promote its message of moderation. Additionally, the Al-Azhar International Academy for the Training of Imams and Preachers provides advanced instruction for religious leaders from across the globe in contemporary preaching methods and key issues in modern Islamic discourse. He also stressed that Al-Azhar has long been committed to fostering interreligious and intercultural dialogue. This commitment is reflected in its active participation in international conferences such as the Bahrain Forum for Dialogue: East and West for Human Coexistence (2022) and Al-Azhar International Peace Conference (2017), which brought together the Grand Imam, Pope Francis, and prominent religious leaders to affirm the dignity of humanity and the peaceful essence of religions. Ad-Duweini underscored Al-Azhar's significant contributions to national cohesion in Egypt, including its joint initiative with the Egyptian Church to establish the 'Egyptian Family House', which unites Muslims and Christians of all denominations to strengthen national unity. This model has become a leading example of interfaith coexistence, now represented by fifteen branches across the country. He further noted that Al-Azhar remains committed to clarifying rights and freedoms, such as the rights of women, the elderly, children, and neighbors, and the rights of both Muslims and non-Muslims. He emphasized that Islam honors the role of women, as demonstrated by the prominent leadership positions women hold within Al-Azhar. This commitment to gender equality earned Al-Azhar first place in the 'Equal Opportunity and Women's Empowerment' category in the 2022 Government Excellence Awards. For their part, the EU ambassadors expressed deep appreciation for Al-Azhar's status and legacy, praising its role in advancing moderation and dialogue, and reaffirming the alignment between the European Union's values and Al-Azhar's mission of global coexistence and human fraternity. Following the meeting, the delegation toured the historic Al-Azhar Mosque, taking in its rare architectural and artistic features. They were given a detailed presentation on the mosque's history and its academic role in promoting Islamic sciences. The tour included an overview of the scholarly activities conducted at the mosque, such as lessons in classical Islamic texts, religious studies, Arabic language, Quranic recitation, and the ten recognized modes of Quranic reading. The ambassadors took commemorative photographs and engaged in friendly conversations with students studying in the mosque's traditional learning circles. They inquired about the teaching methods, disciplines offered, and the intellectual benefits the students gain through their education at this renowned institution. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language

Houthis Sink Cargo Vessel ETERNITY C in Red Sea (VIDEO)

Taarek Refaat The strategic waterways of the Red Sea have once again become a flashpoint of regional conflict following a deadly attack on the Liberian-flagged cargo ship ETERNITY C. Yesterday, Houthi rebel forces launched a sophisticated assault on the vessel, using a combination of drone boats and guided missile strikes, leading to the eventual sinking of the ship and significant casualties among its crew. The attack occurred roughly 50 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah, a known Houthi stronghold. According to multiple verified sources, the assault began with an unmanned explosive boat targeting the vessel's hull, followed by precision-guided missiles that disabled the ship's engine and critical communication systems. The crew's attempts to control the damage failed, and as the vessel started to take on water, the captain ordered an emergency evacuation. Despite rescue efforts, at least three crew members lost their lives, with several others sustaining severe injuries, including one sailor who reportedly lost a leg. Survivors were rescued from the water by nearby vessels and local fishing boats. The ETERNITY C, owned by a Greek shipping company, ultimately sank in the early hours of July 9, marking one of the deadliest maritime incidents in the Red Sea in recent years. The Houthi movement, officially known as Ansar Allah, publicly claimed responsibility for the attack. They released a video documenting the operation, showcasing their use of unmanned maritime drones and ballistic missiles. The group justified the strike as part of their broader campaign against vessels heading to Israeli ports, pledging to target any ship linked to Israel 'regardless of nationality.' This declaration underscores a marked shift in the conflict's maritime dimension, as the Houthis intensify their naval capabilities to disrupt international shipping lanes, particularly those connected to Israel. This attack comes on the heels of another recent assault on the cargo vessel Magic Seas, signaling a troubling escalation in Houthi naval aggression. The Red Sea, a vital corridor for global trade linking Europe, Asia, and Africa via the Suez Canal, faces increasing risks that threaten to disrupt international shipping and economic stability. In response, maritime insurance premiums for vessels transiting the Red Sea have surged, with coverage costs rising from 0.4% to nearly 1% of a ship's value. Shipping companies are weighing the risks of rerouting, which could increase transit times and costs substantially. International actors including the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations have condemned the attacks, viewing them as grave threats to freedom of navigation and global commerce. Discussions of a coordinated multinational naval patrol to secure the Red Sea are reportedly underway. The attack on ETERNITY C coincides with heightened tensions across the Middle East, particularly amid ongoing hostilities involving Israel and Palestinian factions. The Houthis' explicit linkage of their maritime operations to the Israeli conflict signals a widening of the regional proxy wars into maritime domains. Analysts warn that without effective diplomatic engagement and enhanced maritime security measures, the Red Sea could become a permanent theater of conflict, jeopardizing the critical supply chains that millions rely upon. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Egypt's Railway Ticketing System Restored After Ramses Central Fire Disruption

Taarek Refaat Egyptian National Railways (ENR) has fully restored its electronic train booking system, following a temporary disruption caused by the fire that broke out at the historic Ramses Central Telecommunications Building earlier this week. According to a well-informed source, train reservation services have returned to normal operations, both online and at physical ticketing outlets, after firefighting teams brought the blaze under control. The incident had briefly impacted the digital infrastructure supporting Egypt's national railway booking platform. 'There was a partial outage in the early hours of the fire, but system engineers acted quickly to reroute and stabilize booking operations,' the source said. Minimal Impact on Passengers Despite the disruption, the railway authority emphasized that no train schedules were affected, and passengers who had difficulty booking tickets were assisted through alternative methods. The issue mainly affected online reservations and digital ticketing terminals at select stations. The temporary disruption was due to internet and communications outages linked to the Ramses Central Exchange, which also impacted sectors such as banking, utilities, and stock trading. A Symbolic Infrastructure The Ramses Central building, located in downtown Cairo, is not only a critical telecommunications hub but also a symbol of Egypt's digital backbone, handling a significant volume of fixed-line and internet traffic across Greater Cairo. Civil protection authorities successfully contained the fire without casualties, and restoration efforts began immediately afterward in coordination with multiple government bodies. Railway Operations Uninterrupted Egypt's railway operator confirmed that train services continued uninterrupted, and any technical issues experienced were limited to the reservation system, not the actual transport network. 'Train traffic was never halted. The disruption was isolated to the booking system and has now been resolved,' a spokesperson for the railway authority said. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
