Teen jailed for the rape of a 12-year-old
He was give an additional five years for sexual assault and the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
According to initial police reports, the incident occurred on August 6, 2023.
'The victim told her mother that the accused, who was known to her, had attacked and raped at by a nearby riverbank,' confirmed police.
The victim's mother immediately reported the matter to the police. Sergeant T.P. Mdluli worked tirelessly to secure the the conviction and sentence.

Counterfeit methylated spirits and vinegar lab dismantled in Mpumalanga
The Mpumalanga police have warned the public against purchasing counterfeit goods following the discovery of a laboratory making methylated spirits and vinegar in KaBokweni on Thursday. Mpumalanga News reports that after receiving a tip-off, the police raided the laboratory that was located behind a supermarket in the area. 'There was a woman at the premises who identified herself as an employee. The owner was reportedly not available during the operation,' says Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli. The SAPS confiscated all the items that were found in the laboratory and said these would form part of the investigation. The items include 2 500 containers of methylated spirits and vinegar, in various sizes. The estimated value has not been revealed. Officers of the Local Criminal Record Centre took the lead during the raid. However, Mdhluli says the Hawks will take over the investigation. No arrests have been made yet. The acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, encouraged community members to report any suspicious activities in their area. In an emotional Facebook post, Gayton McKenzie praised his eldest son, Calvin Le John, for his successful acquisition of SuperSport United. The 51-year-old shared how Calvin was born mere hours after he was convicted of armed robbery in 1996. He posted of his son: 'You grew up seeing me through jail bars. You never visited me on the weekends of the home games of Siwelele because you and your grandpa would go and watch the games religiously just like me and him when I was young. George court interpreter accused of duping taxi owners in fraud scheme
A 29-year-old court interpreter, Siphelele Appollis, briefly appeared in the George Magistrate's Court this week following his arrest on charges of corruption, fraud, forgery and uttering. George Herald reports that, according to a media statement issued by the Hawks, the George-based Serious Corruption Investigation team arrested Appollis on Tuesday after an investigation into allegations that he posed as someone with court authority to defraud two local taxi owners. The incident reportedly occurred in March 2024. Appollis allegedly introduced himself to the taxi owners as someone who could assist with the release of their impounded vehicles, at a fee of R3 000 each. Once an agreement was reached, he filled out official complaint forms, which were filed at the Thembalethu Police Station. He allegedly stole the documents from the Thembalethu court and forged the signature of a magistrate to make the paperwork appear legitimate.
